Floyd was a technically skilled boxer and did not take many chances and was not very exciting to watch. Floyd did not become a household name until he beat Oscar. Floyd was arguably the number 1 p4p fighter in the world for a while before people took notice. Floyds style is a little more entertaining now because he stands in the pocket more but early on his style was unappealing to most.
Rigondeaux can just keep winning but it will take him a long time to really establish a fan base unless your a fan of master boxing. Floyd boastful personality helped his career a lot and then all of suddenly people started tuning in to see him lose.
Every floyd post you have negative comments.. Canelo lost, and in embarrassing fashion at the hands of the guy you hate.. Canelo got exposed, deal with it..
According to Floyd, Canelo wasn't at his best weight. Canelo, by Floyds standard, is still undefeated.
Deal with it. http://img.pandawhale.com/62638-breakfast-Club-deal-with-it-gi-MLuC.gif

A green fighter to perform the way he did against a great fighter like Floyd is damn good. Most expected Floyd to win.
Rigo just has to keep doing what he is doing and win. I aggee GBP may be a good match. He should be fighting more on the East coast build him big there will help a lot for his career if he is not already big there.
Not true. Floyd had a lot of good fighters at 130 especialy beating Genaro Hernandez got him respect right away. He didn't just box Hernandez but took it to him. He had some good fighter that made fights interesting like Goyo Vargas. What about the big show down with Mandredy? Floyd and Rigo didn't take the same roads.
Floyd started boxing much more in his fighters as someone pointed out after his fight with Castillo.
Floyd had a lot of competition at 130 when he was there. Freitas, Casamayor, Corrales, Manfredy, Gatti. And some tough contenders.
Havnt seen much of Rigo but from what i seen and hear he dominating in better fashion than Mayweather was when he started at 130. And looking back Floyd was a big 130 pounder.
lmao. entirely false. Dude couldn't even sell out his own hometown pre Oscar.

Too bad For Rigo Theirs no Mexican Superstar (Oscar) to fight, for him to make him into a star and their is no Arch Rival (Manny) who the world wants to see him fight that he can just mention his name everytime to promote his own fights.
Poor Rigo.
Seems like it would be wise to get out of there as soon as possible.
Well hopefully Rigondeaux can get out of his Top Rank contract eventually before he turns old, and get some of those fights like Mares and Santa Cruz with Golden Boy.
1 more fight with Top Rank. They should just get some mandatory contender, fight him for cheap and get out of there.

And another thing people got to realize with Rigo is there is **** going on behind the scenes that is causing tension:
1. Rigo rejected a $350K offer to fight in Macau because he felt he should be paid equivalent to Zou Schming
2. Rigo's co-promoter Caribe has had tension with Bob Arum and even had a lawsuit going on prior to the Marroquin fight
3. Rigo's contract has a high minimum purse (I think $500K) which is why they are forced to try and put him in HBO headliners when he isn't ready. He's too expensive for an undercard.
A lot of the talk to the media is probably trying to deflate his ego and make him back down on the demands of him and his team. I like him as a fighter but he and his team are very stubborn and think he is worth a lot more than he really is.

Arum was saying Floyd is better than Ali, Robinson, Leonard.
He outright insulted Rigondeaux as a boring fighter and claims HBO vomits when ever they hear Rigondeaux's name. Never have you heard Arum talk like that about Floyd when he was under Top Rank. Arum hyped up the crap out of Floyd, he doesn't feel the same about Rigo at all.
So? He said Rigo should be at the top of the pound for pound list and even told the media that Donaire couldn't beat him 2 years ago. He also laughed when someone asked him about Floyd ever being on PPV and said "only against a Latino fighter". He says what he needs to do to promote at that specific point in time. Imagine if Floyd beat one of his cash cows like Cotto or De La Hoya when they were still with him. He would have bashed him the same way to preserve his more lucrative investments.
He didn't believe in Floyd at all and that's why he insisted on buying himself out and getting out of that situation.
Arum just does not like defensive fighters. He didn't even believe in Floyd even though he engaged a lot more than guys like Rigo and Terrance Crawford.
rite keep thinking this bull****!!! do you know anything about boxing???
Floyd was an American Olympian ...that was Robbed at the games...
His father and Uncle were good fighters...and his Uncle was also a Former World Champion....
Dude was a Child Prodigy!!!
The Mayweather last name with Boxing is Like "Manning" in Football..
The father wasn't a Hall of Famer but He groomed his Son's and they went on to become Great players!!!
You have No Idea what ur talking about Homie!!!!!
young ppl took to floyd since day one...I'm sure if u do a Breakdown of his Fanbase 90% of them are under 40...
Floyd also had 3 PPV's before Oscar....
that did Decent Carlos, Zab, and Gatti...
Go try to put Rigo on PPV and see if he can sell 5,000
lmao. entirely false. Dude couldn't even sell out his own hometown pre Oscar.

Its the same thing because:
1. Arum does not believe he can sell defensive, technically sound fighters to the public
2. Both fighters drawing power and popularity was not reflective of their level of talent and the media was critical of both
The other differences I already know about. I know Rigo is not star material because of reasons I already mentioned and Floyd had much bigger upside potential. But when Mayweather was with Top Rank, he was shoved aside because Arum didn't want him touching his cash cows. He didn't believe he could sell him the way he could sell De La Hoya and Cotto.

Floyd was far more active at 130-140 than Rigondeaux is. He moved around a lot but always threw punches, was always doing something in the ring. Rigo is very laid back and often just stares at his opponent to wait til he does something. Both are great fighters though.
Mayweather's boring fights came in the span of 2006-2007. Where he was more of a natural LW fighting at 147-154.
You did not watch Floyd early actually his stigma as boring came later in his career not early. Rigondeaux is adjusting and has trouble getting good world class opposition out of there because even when he is dominating them is hard to get a guy out when he doesn't want to throw punches and is in Clottey mode.

Floyd's early style was unappealing to most? He was one of the most exciting fighters at 130 and 135 when he was called "the Pretty Boy". What are you talking about? The skill he put on display against Genero Hernandez, Angel Manfredy, Diego Corrales was beautiful. He was an offensive machine in his younger days. Ever watch his fight with Phillip Ndou? Fucking masterful performance. You can't watch his fight with Arturo Gatti and say his style back then was boring. He was lighting Gatti up all freaking night. It pisses me off to read posts like this because they're just plain stupid. Watching some early Floyd fights on Youtube or something.
