So we've let it come to that. Fighter A should be fighting fighter B. But fighter B is one dangerous Kat. Lots of power and excellent boxing skills.
The fans of fighter A. "Who's this guy" Who knows him? He needs to build his name".
The convenient excuse made up for ducks. So this is what we've come to huh.

We barely knew Thurman when he was scheduled to fight Maidana. I remember being disappointed that the fight fell through cuz it was gonna be two big punchers going at it, but Chino looked at his KO% and decided to fight Soto-Karass instead. He had just lost to Alexander in his first WW fight, can you blame him for avoiding One Time? Now it makes complete sense for them to fight. I guess I'm a bit more lenient with ducking lol
How many prospects you don't see with inflated KO ratios tho (not saying Thurman's is)? Then when they step up they can't crack an egg.
I get it tho, Maidana watched some tapes of Thurman's bodyshots and pu$$ied out.

It was a replacement while he was in the Super Six. I can't remember which fighter dropped out that ended up with Ward fighting Bika, but that's what happened with both Bika and Allan Green, someone dropping out.
Bika wasn't a replacement bout Allen Green and Johnson were the only 2 replacement fighters when Dirrell and Kessler dropped out.
Bika wasn't a super 6 bout.

What does fighting Bika have to do with anything? That's when Ward was in the Super Six. It's not an excuse when there is absolutely no point where Ward/Bute could have happened. How can you duck someone when there is no point where the fight could have happened?

you're going to be hearing that line a lot from now on from both floyd and Canelo fans whenever anybody mentions Lara.
Maaaaaaaaaaaan we're so passed Floyd/Canelo/ and Pacman now. Even bum killers, like Broner have fans who use that excuse. Like I've stated imo only 2 fighters are privy to that excuse. That's Floyd and Pacman.
The only problem with Floyd and Pacman using it, is that they only use it when it's convenient. If there's a bonified star bum, (like Khan), they'd jump all over that. But a guy like say (Lara), would need to "build his name up".
fans know its all about the money
its reality
building ones name up means just that
in ur world a fighter shud get a shot at such and such without proving himself or having a decent fanbase, but in the real world it simply doesn't work like that
The problem is when fighters say this when it doesn't apply. Quillin about Golovkin, Stevenson about Kovalev, Maidana about Thurman, etc.
Another convenient excuse. Ward explicitly said he wanted Bute to fight someone first....but Ward was cool fighting Bika lol

This is absolutely correct. Disgusting. Fans apply this crap to their fav fighters as if the are the managers. The only thing worse is the whole "Why should he fight him? He brings no money"..Who cares about that crap. We pay for the fights, we dont GET paid.
the only thing disgusting is the double standard. ppl will crucify one fighter for doing it and then give the next one a free pass.
but even if there isnt a double standard i dont think there is anything wrong with pointing out how this business works. its not fair to call a fighter a duck or say hes scared of another fighter when thats clearly not the case, if he went for the money he went for the money, not saying that shouldnt be critisized but it doesnt make the fighter in question scared.
thats the only reason fans talk from a business side of things, not saying we are happy with the decision made just being realistic about why he did it. ppl are so quick to say fighters are scared or ducking someone, thats whats truly disgusting, the dissrespect they receive. in reality fighters at this level dont fear anyone, if they did they wouldnt be able to reach this level in the first place
so when they dont take a fight for bull**** money for the sole reason that its for bull**** money, just admit he didnt take the fight because it paid bull**** money. dont pretend hes scared.
There was never a point in time where Ward could have fought Bute. He was hurt, Bute fought Froch and got his ass kicked.

I guess I can give a pass if the other fighter is totally unknown, non-mandatory. It may not be the most macho thing to say but it's the reality of the business. Fighters have window wherein they have to maximize their earning potential before they decline. It's not like other professions or sports where you can gave a longer period of strong earning power.
This would not apply here.

Yeah, I don't buy that one but when it comes to Mayweather-Lara, or Canelo-Lara, it's just reality, he's not getting the fights. I don't think Broner-Thurman happens either, but it's possible albeit an outside bet.
At a vacant title maybe? wouldn't be shocked to see Broner move down.
And Broner moving down is a duck in the purest sense.
Yeah, I don't buy that one but when it comes to Mayweather-Lara, or Canelo-Lara, it's just reality, he's not getting the fights.
They're not ducking though. Mayweather is not a 154 pound fighter and Canelo is coming off of a loss.
This thread is about using it as an excuse to duck which is what somebody in the Broner/Thurman thread tried to use it as.
When fights are supposed to happen they do: Canelo/Trout, Donaire/Rigondeaux, Garcia/Matthysse, the list goes on.
The reality hasn't been established yet. People are bringing up the excuse before the fight is even discussed. How can a logical fan not want to see Broner vs. Thurman right now?
"Thurman needs to build his name up"? To fight a guy that hasn't even headlined a PPV yet?

Broner's. Bradley's mandatory is Pac.
The other beltholders are Porter and Mayweather. Porter has a deadline to fight Brook and Mayweather is fighting Khan.
If not Broner, Thurman will have a hard time getting a title shot.
