After fighting both Malignaggi and Garcia, Zab Judah believes Paulie would likely beat Garcia by decision. He gave a brief yet interesting and impartial prediction when asked at the post-fight press conference:
Paulie vs Garcia prediction at 8:20
Paulie might whip Garcia. I think if "Berto" Ortiz shows up he ko's Garcia. Pacquiao whips Garcia. Mayweather takes Garcias soul. Garcia probably whips Maidana. Garcia vs Broner is 50/50 to me.
Garcia is a little over-rated since he beat an underprepared and weight-drained Khan. I think it's unlikely Garcia could beat Khan again in a rematch unless Khan was undertrained again and his coach went to train another fighter in another country during his camp, like Roach did last time. That was a lucky night for Garcia, it was sort of a one-in-million night for him. Or to be more specific it was a 1-in-10 night. In other words, Garcia would beat Khan in 1 fight if they fought 10 times. Khan would beat Garcia 9 times out of 10.
This fight sounds reeeeally good right now. Paulie's got some serious boxing left in his tank. This fight makes sense too for both. I believe Garcia gets outboxed.
He was getting him in the first round.
He lost both the first 2 rounds but he was calculating, getting his timing, making adjustments etc and landing hard punches. Especially in the second.
Before the fight I gave Garica no chance other than "landing a good shot" because I felt his power was underrated. Ironically, it seems a little overrated now.
Point being, while I was watching the fight, knowing Garcia could crack, and seeing his quickly he was adjusting and timing Khan coming in and landing hard shots I knew it was a matter of time before Garcia badly hurts him and low and behold it happened the next round.
good post dan as usual. it never ceases to amaze me how myopic the so called fans of this sport can be.
All fanboy sh1t aside....Zab said Paulie would win a decision....he couldn't be more wrong!!....fanboy sh1t aside, Paulie is not knocking anyone out....he's up there in age trying to get some descent money...more power to him!!
Swift is the YOUNG UNDERRATED UNDEFEATED new stud on the block....he hurt dudes with his shots....he knocks them out if they get reckless and he's still getting better....hasn't reached his ceiling yet
Paulie better knock Swift out....he's NOT winning any decision....he's not that good of a boxer to win more than 7 rounds against Swift imo....if he jab and move his way to let's say 7 winning rounds....mean while he's getting pushed back by hard head snapping sweat flying power shots here and there....judges won't show him love....nah
Bottom line....it will be IMPOSSIBLE for Paulie to win a decision....he know it but I guess being under the Haymon umbrella got him gassed about the food chain :lol1:
Not even close.
He's still young, every single fight, every day he matures and every bit of experience he get's he becomes stronger, faster, crisper, harder punching and just better.
Danny's one of the most improved fighters in recent years. I struggle as to how people can't see it.
Compare him to the guy who fought Theophane and Holt to the guy who fights today, it's night and day from what I see.
And like you said he's still improving.

Interesting take by Judah but it's a completely different fight. Danny could have trouble with Paulie's speed and boxing, but he could also come forward and try and KO Paulie.
Either way I'm interested and a win for Paulie would seriously resurrect his career. Not that it's dead or anything but it would put him back in the picture for some big money fights.

Khan>Paulie
Garcia beats him down. Paulie tryna cash out obviously
POST MAKES NO SENSE
kahm got iced by a hook
paulie has one of the best chins in the game
He was getting Khan in the second round, too. He buckled his legs with a right hand that round, if I remember correctly. Even without the hook it appeared Garcia would likely land more and more on Khan.

You make a good point, Dan; but, by the same token, you can't predict how the other guy would adjust to the adjustments. Yes, Garcia was improving and landing punches, but he still lost the rounds. What's to say he wouldn't have continued to lose rounds, if not for the big hook? (And, no, I don't think that was a "Hail Mary" shot.)
Khan and Malignaggi aren't exactly alike -- not many fighters are carbon copies of each other -- but they share some similarities that might give a clue as to how Paulie might fare. Malignaggi lacks some things that Khan has, but he offers some things that Amir doesn't. I think the plusses might outweigh the minuses.

Khan's shown me in the past that he has no ability to make adjustments. He's extremely predictable and that's why as soon as I saw Danny was adjusting and timing him as early as the 2nd round that he was going to hurt him at some point. I think Danny landing the punch he did and doing serious damage was inevitable, as opposed to lucky as most seem to think.
I don't think Khan and Malignaggi are alike at all other than handspeed and again all that fight showed me was Danny has the ability to time speed pretty well.
I don't see anything Malignaggi brings that's going to beat Danny. He might have some success but there's no way he's beating him. I guess he'll just be another style that supposed to trouble Danny that he crosses off the list.
I see that often, I don't understand that line of thinking.
That was what? 2 Rounds?
That's nothing, 2 out of 12 rounds. How do we know the rest of the fight would continue that way? How many times has a fight changed after the 4th round when certain fighters make the adjustments, etc? Since, after all Danny was clearly timing him and have success which is what lead to the KD.
People act like he just landed a hail mary shot out of no where but that's simply not the case. Danny lost the first 2 rounds but while he was losing the rounds he was slowly but surely getting Khan's timing down and setting traps to land those big punches. And he landed plenty of solid shots in both rounds, especially the 2nd, before landing the shot that dropped him.
I don't think that's sound logic at all, Pauli and Khan aren't alike. The only thing the Khan fight shows me is Danny has the timing to beat speed.

Garcia has shown that he can come in and stick to a game-plan. Once Paulie starts to slow down, Garcia will catch up and put it on him. Though there's a possibility that the fight could look similar to Garcia/Theophane, I'm firmly behind Garcia to win this. Moving up to 147 would probably do him some good too.
Well, Danny wasn't handling Khan very well...until he landed a huge left hook. It's conceivable that if Amir had avoided a crushing shot that fight would've been his on the cards. By that logic, I'm thinking that Paulie has a shot at outpointing Garcia. I see his speed, movement, ring IQ, stamina and chin as being potentially enough to squeeze out a win. Not that I would bet on it, mind you (lol), but I wouldn't count Malignaggi out either.

Khan and Matthysse were supposed to be styles he couldn't handle before those fights though.
I suppose Pauli will come under that catergory aswell.

I've underestimated Garcia several times, as I know many others have. He's a solid fighter; but there's nothing about him that seems very impressive, except for a big left hook. So he keeps getting underrated, but he keeps beating guys that his style/abilities can handle. His biggest win to date is Matthysse, but Lucas is a straight forward fighter. Paulie would look like a whirlwind compared to him.
I don't know if Malignaggi has enough left to outpoint Danny, but he can't be counted out. All that movement would certainly trouble Garcia; and he's not likely to finish Paulie with a bomb, like he did Khan. This might not be a great fight, but it is decent...and the outcome isn't certain.
Nor I, but Danny might be a little bit slower with the extra weight which would just what the doctor ordered for PM.
Morales 1 and 2 are a prime example of how rapidly he's improving his game.
The difference between them you mean? I think that might have had as much to do with Morales tbh. We'll see though, you might be right, I hope the fight gets made. If it's Paulie's last, it's a good way to sign out at the Barclays.

I hear you, but it's for the benefit of others reading who are free to jump in with their views on whether DG has improved. I just don't see a lot of improvement, just better style match-ups for him. He's a good boxer Danny, underrated, but imo he struggles with Malignaggi movement if the fight gets made.
To me it's clear that as his body is maturing and his experience is growing he's clearly improving with every fight. The Theophane fight was what? 4-5 years ago? He was a green kid then. Saying he hasn't improved is ridiculous IMO.
He's stronger, punching much harder, timing vastly improved, is much crisper with his punches.
