Can't see Barker coming back from this.
He can be very proud of being world champion and has earned himself a good living in doing so.
Fight was entertaining while it lasted. However, Barker's tactics from the first bell were naive to say the least.
His trainer said that Barker told him something went wrong with his hip in the first round. Got worst in the 2nd after the knockdown.
The impression I got from the trainer and Hearn in the post fight interviews is that retirement is very likely.
Illegal shot that threw his equilibrium off...simple.
The punch that knocked his equilibrium off was right on the ear which is legal.
I see Brits are butthurt and making excuses again. This aint WW2, no americans are gonna save your a.ss in the ring.
Schland!
Germany lost the battle of britain you ignorant mofo.
What's this have to do with anything?
Not trying to be disrespectful, just saying the image of a white dude getting down and doing a muslim prayer is always surprising to me, I know it shouldn't be.
Sturm had many problems making the weight in the last few fights.
Only after Soliman fight he changed his diet and did it right. As I said before the fight - ready Sturm is MUUCH different fighter than the one who fought Geale/Soliman.
If he stays in this form he can beat them all except GGG and Martinez.
Today's Martinez could very well lose to Sturm, I wouldn't be shocked at all.
Yea that's the worst part of this whole thing. Now Sturm is going to hold the belt hostage.
I'll give Sturm credit, that he is willing to rematch Barker in London. That's the right thing to do.
Credit? Prior to this fight taking place, there was already a rematch clause in the contract in the event that sturm won....even though sturm was the mandatory, due to the fight taking place in Germany the concession was that a rematch would take place in the event that sturm won, which he did.
Let's not give sturm ANY credit for fighting top opponents unless he deserves it.

he'll rematch Barker and if he wins he'll fight Geale.
No way he fights GGG - can't blame him - he would get KOed. There is only one fight for GGG at the moment - Sergio Martinez!
Strum is not the fighter he was a few years ago but they saw barker as an easy scalp and that's why they paid all that money to get barker in the ring.
money well spent.
Not sure about that. I think if he can get himself in this shape he can do it very well - as in his prime.
much more experienced as well - particularly in those where he lost.
Sturm won the fight, my nightmare came true. Now the IBF belt is gonna be caught up in rematches for the next year.

I don't why people are so surprised by the result. I called an early KO by Sturm round 2 or 3 and was bang on. Barker was never up to his class and the German had a point to prove. Easy money.

I don't know, I think Sturm can give the Martinez who fought Mirray a hell of a fight, if he throws more then 5 punches per round. So long as it's not in Argentina.
Golovkin would end Sturms career and his people aren't stupid, that fight isn't happening.
A Sturm-Murray rematch would be good if Mirray doesn't fight Golovkin and if Sturm takes car of mandatory Barker-Geale rematches

Details, man, details.
I'm seeing talk of injuries and rabbit punches, was he hurt and the corner threw the towel in, or injured the towel got thrown?
In the first round Sturm set the tone quickly, landing two flush left hooks in the first ten seconds of the fight contrary to his usual style. He continued to fight aggressively throughout the round, countering Barker with that hook and a few solid right hands that seemed to shake Barker up at times during the round. Barker threw back throughout himself, and landed some decent body shots, but Sturm's guard was much tighter so Barker didn't land much quality stuff. In the second round Barker came out really fast himself, taking the fight right to Sturm with a high workrate trying to keep Sturm behind his guard. However, Barker got too close to Sturm, who caught him with a short counter right hand on the inside that hurt Barker badly, with the follow-up flurry dropping Barker. Barker beat the count, but was not in good shape. Despite this, Barker actually came after Sturm again with some shots, but once again got too close and Sturm countered him with the short right hand on the inside again, ultimately dropping Barker again. It was during this sequence that Sturm might have landed some borderline rabbit punches, though I think the punches were legit. Barker signaled to his corner while he was on the ground that his hip was messed up, and got up again, but it appeared his hip was making it very hard for him to move. Sturm went for the finish, throwing hard shots at a defensive Barker, and Barker's corner threw in the towel though Barker had responded by firing back at the time.

The belt will be abused and probably be involved in a few robberies lol
