You can#t compare the Vitali that fought Byrd in 2000 with the Wladimir that fought Byrd in 2006. I am more than sure that if Byrd had to fight the 2002-2004 or 2008-2011 version of Vitali, his opinion would be completely different.
i wasnt going on byrds word. its obvious wlad is the sharper puncher. thats not to say vitali is a light puncher himself but his knockouts come from more of an accumalation of punches. btw,,,,wlad also fought byrd in 2000 right after vitali and dropped byrd twice en route to a lopsided decision win
its obvious wlad is the snappier puncher. vitali's might hurt a bit more but wlads are more apt to put the lights out on you

The thing is that Vitali's punches' impact are just frightening. It's really a shame that he had to go through so much injuries. For instance against Chisora he came with a swollen right hand, torn his left shoulder's ligament in the 4th round and was still able to rock him in the 10 th round. Considering Vitali's unorthodox style you must admit that this guy is really brutal. Wladimir's punches are more surgical.
wladimir is very clearly the harder puncher. he's got faster hands, and his punches are much more sharp. if any of you have ever boxed, you know that the speed and "sharpness" of the punch is what generates the impact.
vitali has extremely heavy hands. wladimir is an extremely hard puncher.
in his prime, vitali wasn't a bad puncher. watch his fight with kirk johnson. lately he's had too many injuries, and doesn't even try and punch hard. he just puts his hands on guys until they wear down.

Vitali has more power than it appears on TV - it looks like he's landed "soft" punches but he's naturally heavy handed so those "soft" looking punches are actually really powerful. Remember Arreola saying "f*ck, he hits hard!"
Kelly Pavlik was another guy who was very heavy handed - with power you couldn't appreciate unless you were hit by it
True but this was the 2000 version of Vitali. Between december 2008 and february 2011 ( and also between 2002-2004) he looked terribly strong!
Wlad has harder one punch knockout power, wlad is one of the most powerful puncher ever.
When it comes to Vitali he punched very hard before he retired (2004).
He had the highest KO % of a hw champion ever, he had won all of his fights on stoppage at that time.
After he came back from retirement he wasn't the same, he wasnt as aggressive and mean/bully.
He used his experience and skills, boxing more on backfoot.
He could't train as hard for strengt(injuries).
You could see with the years the stoppages starting to come in the later rounds and often because the corner, ref or fighter quit because he just dominates them. He has declined a lot fysical but his still levels above in boxing skills.
This video is a good example, some fights before retirement and a lot after returning. showing nice skills

Hard to say. Wlad appears to have more one punch power, but that might be because of his better offensive technique. Vitali is very unorthodox and throws mostly arm punches. I guess it's impressive in its own way that he KO'd 41 of his 47 opponents with arm punches...
Wlad has more of a one-punch knockout - that's for sure.
I think Vitali around 2003-2004 had a clubbing right hand that was just as hard as Wlad's. Maybe it's just because he actually threw it and punished people with it compared to Wlad who doesn't throw it before late in fights.
It's a tough one.

I dunno if anything I think the gap between their punch power has increased. vitali has heavy hands no doubt but wlad's right hand especially is a monster.
