Carl Froch all but dismissed the idea of going 'over old ground' in a rematch with George Groves.
"Do I want to go over old ground? Not at the minute, no. I like to move forward in my career and the only old ground I like to go over again is for a defeat."
Carl Froch
The WBC and IBF middleweight champion was on Ringside for the first time since his controversial win on November 23.
Groves has demanded a rematch after being stopped in the ninth round of their contest and promoter Eddie Hearn has even admitted he - as a fan - wants to see a second showdown.
But the final decision falls to 36-year-old Froch and he all but ruled it out.
"I defended my title against a mandatory. I beat an unbeaten fighter, a hungry, ambitious fighter who came to try and win the fight - and winning with a technical knockout in the ninth round is a great result," he said.
"Do I want to go over old ground? Not at the minute, no.
"I like to move forward in my career and the only old ground I like to go over again is for a defeat.
"It was nice to avenge the Mikkel Kessler defeat, it would be nice to avenge the Andre Ward defeat if that can possibly be made."
Opinions
Promoter Hearn revealed he has been in America discussing possible fights with Ward, Gennady Golovkin and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Groves - Foster made terrible decision
Froch himself ruled out a match-up with former mandatory but now light-heavyweight star Adonis Stevenson, but although he knows there is still public demand to see him and Groves go at it again, he believes the interest is fading.
"It's a 50-50 split right now and the longer the time goes and the longer people watch the fight, opinions are changing a lot," he added.
"Like Eddie said, I have got a lot of options.
"I am going to enjoy a wonderful Christmas with my beautiful family, then I am going to make a decision - and I decide who I am going to fight.
"If I decide to fight again I am going to make the correct decision based on where I want to go forward.
"I will speak to Eddie, my trainer Rob McCracken and my family and then I will make the decision based on what I feel is right for me - and everyone else."

this is a total duck job of the finest if I ever saw one
Froch may be a warrior but I still can't stand the guy. He never stops talking about how great he is and he is not half as good as he says he is.He wants a rematch with Ward after Ward beat him easily and he says Ward must fight him in the UK. He trashed Groves so much before the fight and said how easily he would KO him. Then he was well behind on points when the ref stops the fight and gives him his TKO win. Most fans and writers think the fight should not have been stopped and that Groves would have defeated Froch if the fight had not been stopped for no good reason. So Froch says he got a good win and does not want to go over old ground but he insists Ward comes to the UK and go over old ground with him.
This is a duck,, The rematch would be huge business, the only thing that will save face for froch is if he does a lennox lewis and says i cant get up for the young guys, i retire.
If froch comes out and retires and does a lennox lewis, then i think its ok, his time is done. But if he continues to fight, its a total duck, and will haunt his legacy
Would it be more cash though?
I've seen some big numbers thrown around for the Groves rematch.
That's exactly what I'm wondering. Especially since Froch isn't in the drivers seat vs. Ward. I think he's going to have to rematch Groves either way.
If Froch wants it, he can get it.
I don't think Brian Vera is stupid enough to get in the ring with Chavez again, so when he flees the country, we'd be happy to take on Froch and cement Julio "Sugar" Chavez's place in the P4P rankings.
Froch can't be the first, but he can be the next.
48 have tried.
48 have failed.
That doesn't make any sense. If Groves is the biggest fight, then Froch would be "cashing out" by taking the rematch surely?
My perspective is this: Froch would prefer to cash out on an epic "All British" fight -- it's more doable for him. I don't think Froch would sell better a Ward or a Chavez Jr fight at the Wembley -- building the required hype would be more demanding and less convincing. I still think that Froch lost the sparkle from his eyes...
I think he will rematch him at some point, he has too.. He aint beating Ward (in the US or the UK)...Froch-Groves II, Wembley stadium.. His best chance of redeeming himself from the image of the total prick he has managed to make himself look
I don't think there are -- following to what happen during and after the Groves fight.
Froch is cashing out anyway -- he seems bored with boxing.

Doesn't sound like he's decided anything yet.
If there are bigger fights for Froch, then he has every right to take one of them.
He doesn't need George Groves.

The Froch conquerors...Dirrell, Kessler, Ward, Groves. Only had the balls to rematch one and barely won that fight.
Please: what "Murray-GGG 4.15 Trillion W/The Vision" does mean eventually?
Remember though, Groves never gave Degale a rematch and most people thought Degale beat Groves. Call it karma or fate or what goes around comes around..
Exactly. Kenny Anderson too. But no one will mention those fights because Groves is flavour of the month.

"i want to rob andre ward in my back yard."
That simply isn't happening, especially after the Groves fight. Whatever sliver of a chance may have existed that Ward would go to the UK is gone.
Froch is smart. Better to lose to Ward for more cash.
I agree. But just because he's smart he will not fight Ward -- because he (Froch) is the one who sells out venues, not Ward... Froch is not that stupid to provide Ward with millions of dollars and also get beat into the process... (I remember that Ward wanted to fight Froch on the Wembley as well...)
