Why do most fighters hesitate to come flat out and say who they want to fight next. This is especially the case for top level boxers.
Does it give negotiating leverage to the other guy if they call him out?
You usually hear...
"Well I just wanna go home and..."
"I'm just a fighter, I handle the business in the ring"
"Uh depends on my promoter, Bob Arum"
"Line 'em up, I'll fight anyone"
...sh1t like that, and it almost feels as if something was missing from the broadcast.
Obviously Stevenson/Kovalev is a fight on the map right now for everyone. Would have been nice to see some theatrics from either fighter in the post fight interviews...the interviewers have to almost pry it out from them.
Surely these guys map their careers out somewhat. I'll fight him, then him.. Of course we as fans do this.
I know these guys are in the moment of a payoff for their hardwork and sacrifice during training camp. It'd be a nice way to play to the crowd after a fight by dropping a name with some conviction; like you really want to fight and beat that guys ass. I think it adds to the feeling of it being a "grudge match" or whatever you want to call it.
I think that in the moment, during the interview, the person needs to be the boxer and not the business man, and say what they think the fans what to hear.

if they are just saying what they think i want to hear, then whats the difference?...
It's simple - The fact is, only fighters like Vitali and Floyd have a huge say so in their opponent choice and the reason is the Promoter is the one who decides the opponent, the location, and other details. They are the ones putting the money up and it is in the contract that they are the ones that make most of the major decisions.
Reminds me of Broner calling out everybody, Marquez, Pacquiao, Rios, Guerrero, you name it. Guerrero showed up in his face and Broner ended up saying, "Send the contract over and I'll sign it" Did the fight get made? No. If that was UFC, Dana White would have capitalized on that huge promotional gem. Not in boxing. Cash cows need to be protected, marinated, and all that sh1t.

right on the money(pun intended)

It's hard to say. It could be for negotiating purposes. I would like to see fighters call people out more. I'm sure we all would. I'm just not sure if it makes a difference in a fight getting made.
Negotiating. You don't want to show your hand. Make it look like you have more options so you can have more bargaining power.
i would rahter have them say "i'll beat any of the top 5 fighters in my division" "if they want some, come get some"
Kovalev: "..mumble mumble mumble...Adonis" *with a smile*
I liked his interview I was laughing. Like a badass GGG. Wilder calls out opponents after fights. Quillin said names, Broner calls people out, Mundine called out Mayweather and Canelo lmao
What is really dumb is when fans are expecting immediate reaction from fighter B when fighter A calls out fighter B. And when fighter A doesn't call out fighter B, he's not interested, or he's afraid... The reverse is also true.
Who the hell knows? This is not WWF. This is boxing. Politics, health, pride, cherrypicking, etc are at play in this sport. You should know this if you've been following the sport.

That's bull**** and you know it, it's not got anything to do with negotiating, it's got to do with most fighters these days either having small balls or small brains.
Naz always called out a tonne of opponents "Kevin Kelly your next" that fight was huge and he made loads of money, "Barrera, Morales, your getting it next" Naz got a career high payday and earned more than Lewis in the preceding years...lost LOL but still.
Ali called out who he wanted, Leonard, Lewis at times, Hopkins at times...what's all this BS with 21st century fighters and "I'll fight anybody?" LOL
because in boxing everyone knows just because u call this guy out it doesnt mean ur gonna get him next.. now in the ufc guys call eachother out all the time after a win.
It's become useless for winners to call out other fighters after the win. They get ducked, asked for astronomical sums of money, etc.
I don't see the point now unless you're sure the one you are calling out would take it. Otherwise, it will become a disadvantage in the negotiating table.
So I don't blame them for not doing it.
