The truth about mayweather pay per views is that he does not do well without a Mexican holiday date and Mexican opponent. Fact is not even african Americans pay to see his fights he would not sale more tickets than manny if they fought the same day.and Floyds faught someone like Alexander. Yes ? No?
yeah but it wasn't ppv vs. ppv. iirc canelo-lopez was regular showtime.
plus it was more a fluke than norm.
canelo was suppose to fight pwill that day.
when pwill went fast and furious, fight was cancelled.
hbo/TR then set up chavez-serg for that day.
then they started fighting over it.
TR reason was the fight was cancelled so it was open date. (first PWILL got hurt and then iirc Kirkland pulled out of canelo fight.)
GBP reason was they had the date first.
True...except the Sergio vs Chavez card was PPV. SHO card was on regular SHO Network. Both cards were huge draws at gate & on tv.:boxing::boxing::boxing:
It was suppose to be a ppv,,, it was suppose to be canelo-pwill/ortiz

Or blacks could fight on Jan 1st...Mexicans on cinco de mayo...Whites on Jul 4th and Pacquiao can fight on April 15th...JOKING
i can mostly agree with that statement.........other than the hatton fight its true. how come he doesnt fight on MLK day or during kwanzaa?!?!?!
You think he should fight on MLK Day...Why because he's black??? I thought Martin L King was about racial equality??? I thought Martin L King was about non violence??? Desegregation???
your wrong on that statement,, hbo had serg-chavez, and showtime had the canelo-lopez card in the same city a block from each other,,, both cards were sellouts, serg-chavez did great buyrates and showtime got huge ratings and it was a win for all involved,,
the rest of your post i mostly agree with

Because your dealing with very prideful people here...they hate the fact that Mayweather is still able to make money using "their" holidays. Canelo was the last great hope and he was easily schooled. There's nobody left so bitterness has reset in and these threads will continue until Floyd retires. Real simple though boxing is a business and it would be stupid of Floyd to fight on any other day when those two dates have proven to be the most lucrative fight weekends for him. :boxing:
take a look at floyds last 5 ppvs and tell me one that was worth the money? if you are ok with the way boxing is a bussiness type why even bother watching? Why do you say canelo was the last great hope?

showtime and hbo was going head to head with same dates before and both got burned. they wouldn't risk it with top ppv events.
a lot of pac's fights were cinco de mayo weekend as well and some mexican independence day weekend.
it stopped not because of cable companies or even floyd vs. pac.
it was arum vs. schaeffer with vegas casinos.
vegas made deals with gbp. arum got pissed and retaliated on vegas.
that's why you saw all these stadium matches a few years back and now macau with arum/top rank.

If floyd isnt a draw, then why doesnt manny go head 2 head on the mexican holidays like wwf/wcw use to do,,
Reason is: cable companies know floyd is the bigger draw and would cater to him and not manny, so manny and every other ppv fight is regulated to other dates

They're not necessarily Mexican.
The guy they call PPV queen is always supported
with strong undercards.
Bottom line is, on his own he can only do jack****.
And he's getting $40 million guarantee, supposedly.
Can you imagine any network or business entity raising that
kind of money? Any business will go broke. Showtime is
losing money over this guy.
He barely drew 700k for the Guerrero fight which is a fail considering the outrageous amount of money shotime threw at him.
You Manny stans love making up shyt don't you? The Mayweather & Guerrero fight did over 800K.
floyd and his team maximize profits,,
the most profitable ppv slots are the mexican holidays, so floyd and his team make fights on those weekends,,
Great business move,,,

You gotta love it when a guy who has the highest 2 PPV grossing boxing cards in the sport's history is being called a 2nd tier superstar using Mexicans to get his #'s only.lmbbo
It's called "Prize Fighting" for a reason.
Floyd is a superstar.
Manny is a superstar.
In the words of the great ref,Miles Lane," Lets get it on !!!"
Can't wait for another great weekend of boxing.
:boxing::boxing::boxing:
He will draw people anyways these days. And I can't blame him for a successful strategy in the past.
Nowadays it does not matter who he fights. He will draw.
He is so deep into Showtime that them and their affiliates will market the **** out of him.He barely drew 700k for the Guerrero fight which is a fail considering the outrageous amount of money shotime threw at him.
it's not exploiting, nitwit.
it's called smart business.
mexican-americans make up a good pct of boxing fans.
pac/arum does it too. top rank specialty. that's why arum is still going strong and don king isn't. DK cornered the heavyweight market, TR the smaller weight and latino market.
Thanks, I was unaware of that. I was just using the general context the TS used.
And yes, ARum has been smart about targeting ethnnic groups and marketing to them. He has recently signed a number of non american olympians.
King had tyson, chavez and tito. he didn't groom an adequate replacement for either.
so floyd exploits mexican fans by fighting on cinco de mayo. He isn't a draw its the other guy.
I'm not a draw either. you think if I fight May 5th I can make $35 plus mil. I could sure use that, especially with the holiday season approaching.
