Lets call it what it is , it is not two fighters in their prime. But also far from being shot. A. Fight or two ago Cotto was in a lot of people's mind one foot into retirement. And Martinez has had serious injuries. Cotto beat Delvin and I'm not going to hype the win , I was just intrigued by the way Cotto looked. He came in very aggressive , energetic , left hook to the body was looking as good as ever. He looked fast too. Etc..etc
These are two great fighters from this generation. A lot of talent. A lot of respect from fans. A lot of support. Very classy guys , very accomplished.
I see a lot of people already making excuses though. For example , people saying Martinez was the easy choice because he is coming off surgery. True!!! But lets not make excuses for fighters who have not made them themselves. The fight if it happens will be 6 months from now. Martinez is already rehabbing and if the fight gets made I believe both fighters will be at their very best possible.
Cotto has been in a lot of wars and will be consider the underdog moving up to challenge a very good fighter.
Does Cotto get credit for beating a healthy Martinez? Unless there are known complications through training camp and setbacks I would assume he is 100% come fight night. Will Cotto get credit for a Win or do you consider Martinez was picked at the right time??
Win or lose he will get full credit and support from me. If Miguel pulls the win (which will not surprise me) it will be huge and likely his best victory. It will open the doors to a rematch vs Floyd and likely for the Linear MW belt, biggest money making fight for Miguel and likely for Floyd as well.
i cant really see why anyone would want to discredit this win. He's moving up and taking on a big challenge in martinez. i give him props for seriously looking into the fight with martinez but to actually go through with it he definitely earns my respect, and this is coming from a big time Margarito fan
Sometimes fans of boxing ask too from Cotto imo. A guy who never shys from a challenge and isn't a diva on the negotiation table to prevent certain fights from happening. He's more deteriorated then Martinez ever has been in his career. He gets full credit under all these circumstances..age,wars,weight every angle is against him except the money. So we're good to go if he's victorious.
both guys are no longer in their prime....but cotto will be moving up well past his best weight (welterweight) to fight martinez at his best weight (middleweight)
so yes if cotto beats martinez he gets full credit...
Both guys are faded and have seen better days,,
So i would give cotto full credit for beating serg
I think serg is a slight favorite, so there is no way not to give cotto full credit, unless he wins on some BS ala tim-manny or something like that
he gets credit for fighting the middleweight champion, but the timing is obviously the reason why he's taking the fight. martinez looked ancient against murray.
I'll give him full credit, but clowns will say Martinez was too past his prime and coming off injuries, as usual. Miguel has been in more wars with much stronger opposition than Sergio. IMO, if anybody's "shot" here, it's Cotto.
Cotto is not shot. Closer?? Maybe...
People use that word freely around here. I think it takes away from an opponent when the fighter he faced is being called shot.
When you think about it , Cotto has never been blown out in a fight.
Pacquiao gave him a beating but we all knew it was likely to happen. Pacquiao is just that good. The speed just overwhelmed him like it does to most Pacquiao opponents.
Cotto still has plenty. I want to see him lose to a few bums before I call him shot. Losing to nothing but the best doesn't merit called being shot. Trout is his worst loss.. He's no p4p but he was no bum either.
It depends on how Martinez looks in the ring. Even if Serg has slowed, still a very good (probably best) win for cotto.
I understand what you mean.
I'm not going to act like Cotto has the style to make Martinez looks bad , its actually the other way around in my opinion , but Martinez can be 100% and it could happen that Cotto just has the right plan and comes and executes it to perfection.
I'll give him full credit, but clowns will say Martinez was too past his prime and coming off injuries, as usual. Miguel has been in more wars with much stronger opposition than Sergio. IMO, if anybody's "shot" here, it's Cotto.
He gets credit for ducking canelo. Go beat the guy that beat u ***** ass cotto
:lol1: Fighting the lineal MW champ at the full division limit is ducking now. Just because he doesn't want to win a lineal title at CW like Floyd doesn't make it ducking.
Canelo is big enough star anyway right? Fight Molina and make more $$$$ without Cotto if he's such a big name.
