Sources revealed that Cotto and Top Rank already have June 7th reserved in Madison square garden. The event is scheduled to take place the day before the traditional Puerto Rican Day Parade.
An alleged attractive offer from the leaders of the MSG, whose president Hank Ratner, made Top Rank and Cotto's team look towards a celebration in the historic site.
For this projected fight with Martinez, MSG would be used to its maximum capacity to provides room for 23,000 fans, as happened in 2007 when Cotto made a second defense of his then-welterweight title against Zab Judah.
It was further stated that the offer of Top Rank surpassed the offer by the CEO of GBP, Richard Schaefer.
Cotto could receive a guaranteed purse of $15 million without counting his participation in the sales of 'pay-per-view' which could make those numbers double, something he can't get with Alvarez, coming off a loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in what was his first fight on PPV.
The final announcement of Cotto and his team could occur next week.
Seems to be good to be true, but Carlos Narváez is usually a reliable Puerto Rican writer.
Hopefully Cotto and Martinez get paid WELL no doubt but I could care less how much. Just as long as the fight gets made. Great fight!
Canelo has nothing to offer Miguel except a name and some cash.
Cotto got around that much for fighting Mayweather. Sounds like BS.
How in the hell is Cotto-Martinez going to generate enough money to give Cotto $15mill guarantee + money PPV from sales? Is Martinez agreeing on getting paid like $200k?
Doesn't that $15 million include PPV sales? Meaning that his guarantee will come from all aspects from the fight to reach his guarantee and if there's extra money, he gets that on top? Anybody know?
You would pay for Canelo even after watching the Mayweather fight?
I have absolutely no interest in watching Canelo fight again. Granted he faced a master boxer, but he got out classed so bad and looked so foolish that I look at him completely different than before. It's one thing to go out on your shield like Chavez Jr. did against Sergio. But Canelo did NOTHING. He was like Rios vs. Pac, just stood there took no risk, and just ate punches left and right.
Martinez on the other hand, I would pay to watch. Same with Cotto.
Absolutely!
Everybody looks like sh1t against Mayweather style! Cotto is much easier for Canelo to hit. Not saying he would beat Cotto or anything but I do think their styles would make for a excellent fight
You didn't get the memo Canelo is a PPV star now, it doesn't matter who he fights.
Canelo doesn't crack 300k buys unless it's against a big named opponent. He's a big star in Mexico. Not worldwide such as pac or floyd.
Sergio gonna come back healthy and motivated like never before. He's always wanted this fight and will be bigger then Cotto. I'm sure a fight like this will bring out the best in him.
Cotto vs Martinez or Cotto vs Canelo, both are huge fights and huge pay days for Cotto
I would pay for either PPV!

Look on the bright side Canelo, you can always fight Carlos Molina LOL.

I know he has said he outright does not respect Cotto in an article here in BS, it was last year. He said the same thing about Pacquiao.
But I highly doubt Martinez would take peanuts for Cotto, he wants to get paid handsomely at 38 years old.
Breaking News: In a Winky-like business turn of events, Cotto declines both Canelo and Martinez and instead will fight Peter Quillin at 160 for $3mill guaranteed.
Disclaimer: The breaking news is false.
lol that would be funny. I think Quillin has the best chance of the three to beat Cotto though, a young prime big power puncher.

Where does it say he'll fight Martinez???
If it's an assumption then it is a pretty good assumption considering a Martinez fight is the only one capable of being this big...unless it's a Pac rematch but Pac is said to be fighting in LV next.
Also, $15m sounds like a lot for Cotto, I'm not sure if that happens.
I wouldn't doubt it. Sergio really wants to whoop Cotto for a while now lol
