Brandon Rios swallowed a consistent diet of clean punching from Manny. Clean crisp shots that seemed to send sweat through the TV screen. Brandon took a beating that was shades of Antonio Margarito. It was just as brutal, equally clinical. The same man throwing the same punches. Yet, Brandon sustained less physical damage, he certainly did not have his orbital bone fractured. I went back and watched both fights, Manny punches in 2010 are thrown with more force, they exhibit more torque, the explosion when his punches hit their target do is in another universe from Saturday night. Manny's physical dimensions and brute physical Strength have lost some steam since. Like Pudge Rodriguez, or the other manny that played baseball. but he has every OUNCE of his speed, his reflexes. He looked Jedi good during certain exchanges. Thats strange, typically the last thing a fighter loses a hold of is his power, the FIRST thing to go is speed, yet, Manny is bucking a trend 100 years in the making. You want to accuse, but what evidence is there?? What can I say? He is miracle. But as responsible fight freaks we have to examine the disconnect that is Manny's punching power. Its gone. Nowhere to be found. Witness protection. So now the question is, did he ever have it in the first place, or did he have his hand in the cookie jar for a year or so?? Either way, no matter WHO your a fan of, its time to really honest with ourselves about this issue. Manny goes from a .500 batting average to .237?? But appears to be healthy and is fast as ever???? I am officially placing a stain on the Cotto fight, the Oscar fight, the Cheato fight, and the Hatton fight. The Diaz fight is slightly shaky after consuming it on youtube. Baseball players are subjected to the same thing. The Rios fight raised more questions then it answered.
so are you honestly telling us that Rios was in survival mode???
Compared to his usual style, absolutely. He spent most of the fight covering up. He certainly didnt try everything to win
Pac also wasnt as aggressive as usual
Pac has very good power, its just fighters who choose to just survive rather than just win are better able to see the final bell. so are you honestly telling us that Rios was in survival mode???
Ther's nothing wrong with Pacquiao's punching power. It's just no one is fighting him face first anymore. Even Brandon "face first" Rios was forced to lean out of the way of those punches. thats a weak excuse for a KO puncher not knocking people out, come on dude.
did he ? I thought it was a great fight up untill mosley landed a very nice counter
what? you should go back and check what the scorecards were through 8 rounds. pillar to post beatdown. "great fight". Buy some glasses bro
Margarito was shop worn after the first Cotto fight. Plus his own aging plus inactivity from a well deserved ban had his body more vulnerable. He was a fighter who just took punches like an idiot and his body gave out and eventually couldnt handle Pacs speed.
Rios is another chin first fighter who while beat up didny show as much damage. Hes young, big not past prime yet so his body took the punishment better. He is still a skill less punching bag though. Simple as that.
good points, but lets be honest, it was shane that wore out Antonio's engine
The same people who hate on Pac, are the same people who says his 147 is fake yet they try to insult Pac. The only information they get from Pac are from the Pac fanboys yet they still think they are some boxing aficionado because they watch Floyd box.
Manny has NEVER shown brute strength power at anything above SFW, in which he used to be able to drop weight and rehydrate to around 144. (His opponents have always said "the speed kills") These boxing aficionados will always try to degrade Manny when the facts have ALWAYS been out there on Manny its not like they hid he was at 144 back in 2006-2008 on fight night, seriously.
I'm Filipino and a Pac fan, but its clear as ****ing day that Manny's 147 "reign" is a ****ing fraud. The only true 147 lber he fought was Cotto, and it was at a CW. Haters who spend time trying to degrade Pac at this stage of his career are jokes. Please move on and hate on Adrien Broner or some other person that may be regarded as the future of boxing, because these old guys are on their way out in 2-3 years.
Now is his power organic or artificial? Organic. He has bigger calves than some middleweights, whats up Peter Quillin, and his main factor was the SPEED. Speed kills, getting hit at awkward angles kills, and the fact he punches with bad intentions is always something dangerous.
I've always considered him Mike Tyson-esque except not upper body, but lower body. Even Emmanuel Steward has made such similar comments. Manny use to bob and weave his head actively and use the strangest punches at the strangest angles that aren't textbook boxing.
Too long of a paragraph, did not read.
Pacquiao packs a punch, Rios didn't want to open up.
Same as Clottey. He didn't get knocked out coz he was in a Philly shell all day.
Organic at Lightweight.
Artificial at Welterweight.
Pacquiao has not stopped anyone since the boxing community called him out for PED use following the Cotto fight. That's the bottom line.
Manny didn't really load up on his shots when he fought Rios, he was throwing arm punch flurries and had to pass them through a double guard.
also he was punching Rios with an open fist, he wasn't clinching his gloves a lot of the times. Pacman no longer has that killer instinct I could tell he was going soft on Rios, he watched 24/7 and it showed Rios had a lot of young kids and apparently Buboy was telling Manny don't feel sorry for him don't be too nice or something. Pacman probably felt sorry for Rios and didn't want to hurt him cause he had a family. But someone should tell Manny its better to knock a guy out early than having him take accumulation, the accumulation is much worse for the brain.

Rios had better head movement than Margarito tho. If anything he ducked some of Mannys punches. I'm just surprised that Manny's hands are still healthy and not brittle yet after all this time, especially a puncher like him.
Personally feel he was juiced. I think it's obvious like when baseball had Sosa, McGwire, Bonds. I just have a hard time believing that when he was 23 - 25 he's fighting at 118-122 not weight drained and 5 years later he's a welterweight Gained 30 lbs of muscle ,which is another 25% of his body mass and didn't lose any speed and increased his power.
Just like in baseball I think allot of people in boxing know what's going on but not bringing to light. I remember years ago Freddy Atlas mentioning something, And Floyd calling him out on the tests and him not accepting and dancing around the issue. He could be clean and be just a genetic freak but I think he was juicing.
Mosley, margarito, rios have never been stopped and were covering up more than usual.
Besides Hatton, what great ko's has he done?
I think he is the same, and peoples perception is the variable.
Didn't Mosley stop Margarito??? I may be wrong here
have to consider punches landed....
it's obvious that pac landed way more punches on margarito than rios...
against margarito pac landed 474 punches..411 of which were power punches...

it's compubox tho (so not 100% reliable), but still it's obvious that pac landed way more against margarito...
That's an insane number of punches landing, can't believe Marg was still standing and still can't believe they didn't stop that fight.
