Would you please check out my blog at http://maximumboxing.wordpress.com/
I added my blog calling for Stevenson vs Kovalev to happen in 2014.
Would appreciate some traffic from fellow boxing enthusiasts.
agree. great stoppage. that reminded me of litzau - broner and angulo - yorgey.
guys in that state are leaning back on the ropes, and take a while to slump to the canvas. guys get free shots on an unconscious opponent before he hits the ground. those are the types of knockouts that end a career. it's not always the sustained beatings. sometimes it's just a brutal finish.
jermain taylor was never the same after pavlik got him on the ropes
joe gamache took several shots on teh way down against gatti, and his head really smashed the canvas.
these are guys that were never the same. gamache never fought again. taylor was a shell of himself when he came back from pavlik 1.
great stoppage. that ref ought to feel good today. bellew was disappointed, but he lived to fight another day, and that's what's important.
Great post,green K..
Kovalev is deceptively quick with his hands. After the first knockdown, I thought, how is this guy's nose bleeding like a faucet if he got cracked in the left side of the head? Even the camera wasn't fast enough for his hands :D! Rewind it frame by frame, and you can see a short, lightning quick left hook to the nose get in before the guy drops.
That was a meh, TKO.
Meh......
This from a guy with Pacquiao as his user image: a boxer who may be past his prime and lacking the power to even knock down let alone knock out, Brandon Rios, a fighter who isn't even top competition in his division. I always liked Pacquiao but if you think Pacquiao is the bomb and you think Stevenson's TKO of Bellews was boring than I will call you a hypocrite.
Sorry but you did that to yourself.
Stevenson is crap, but I guess he has power. Good for him :boxing:
This doesn't even seem like a comment from an actual boxing fan but possibly someone who's life has been a series of disappointing failures with no one to blame for their inadequacies. Or maybe it's just an ignorant racist.
???
Stevenson doesn't know what "go to the body" means..
Are you sure you don't mean Bellew because forget the body shots, he doesn't seem to know that you need to punch back to win the fight! Stevenson got plenty of solid body shots in which ultimately contributed to Bellew's inevitable demise. Any idiot could see that.
I'm all for supporting your favorite boxers but some UK fans are seriously blinded by their unbending support for the top UK fighters regardless of the "reality" in Khan and Bellew getting destroyed by elite competition...
I just noticed, after watching the knockout the 2nd time, that he actually hits Sillakh with two left hands as he's going down which is very impressive.
Thank god for the ref,I actually yelled out to stop the fight..Stevenson even pulled his punches..Bellew was ready to get seriously hurt..Good fights last night..

LOL, that Ward GIF is from devastating mid-rounds combo :D. Lamply is talking to Roy, when Ward goes to the body in then the head shot that snapped Rodriguez's head back, which got an "OOOOOOHHHH!!!!!" from Kellerman (?) :D! Rodriguez pounded his gloves and waved Ward in, to try to diminish the combo, but clearly it hurt :D!
hbo cannot neglect the rest of the year's budget for one fight. they've done it in the past, and it's bitten them in the ass. they cannot, and won't pay more than 4-5 million for one fight.
there's a ceiling for how much they can pay for a single championship boxing card, and it sounds like stevenson wants more than they're going to be able to pay. kovalev shsouldn't take some small split, either.
i'm willing to pay 60 as long as the undercard is good.
are you? that's the easiest way to make this fight.
I'm willing and with a good undercard, I'd have no issues forking over $60 for. The real question is whether enough casuals are to make a viable PPV.
Maybe it's been an ongoing thing. It seems that after Kellerman assumed Alvarado's offense hurt him in the second fight ("so Max, you need to get your eyes checked") Rios has been very hostile towards Max :D. You never question a boxer who is fueled be machismo if he was ever hurt! You'll get a lie every time :D! If he's gonna shake his head "no" after getting his head rocked back by Manny, what makes you think he's gonna be truthful to you :D? So Max made a cardinal mistake there, he should have asked politely if he was hurt so he can lie to him, but get over it!
Kovalez knocked the guy down with a right to the side of the head, but when he got up, his NOSE was gushing blood! I didnt catch that quick left hook to the face that Kovalev got in on the first viewing. Hopefully Kovalev is getting some long sparring sessions, because he's making quick work out of these guys! That was the "GET YOUR BEHIND BACK IN THE CORNER!!!" ref that bought Bute some extra time when Mario Andrade had him knocked out!
I'm suspecting that Stevenson wants NO part of Kovalev. The boxer is supposed to act fearless and welcome all challengers. Its the promoter's job to duck dangerous opponents :D! So when listening to Adonises post fight interview...I dont...see...I rush of enthusiasm to fight Kovalev any time soon, and it appeared to be FEAR. Froch might even be a more dangerous opponent, and Hop would be a "tactical" (less exciting) fight. But he doesn't want to risk a brutal knockout that the Kovalev fight offers.
Ko
True that little guys do make less typically, but they didn't get paid typical SBW purses for that fight either. Didn't Rigo make $750,000? I know they put up $3 million total for Ward-Rodriguez, 2 M to Ward and 1 M to Rodriguez.
I think Stevenson is going to be told, more or less, you're not getting Hopkins on HBO and Froch isn't interested. Maybe the winner of Pascal-Bute, but I've read he and Pascal have said they won't fight because they're friends. I think 2 M to Stevenson and 1 M to Kovalev gets it done.
I'm not saying it's that simple obviously, but HBO has put up that kind of $$$ before for a fight they really wanted. They really want Stevenson-Kovalev. It might not be next, but I have no doubt it's happening in 2014.

The man who said he is "willing to die in the ring", who puts on boxing 'masterclasses', lands a grand total of 8 punches in 6 rounds.
He talks and talks about what he's going to do then gets in and does nothining but stink the place out as usual. Hopefully seen the last of that deluded prick in meaningful fights.
It's 6:20 right now I have no idea why I'm still awake I've been up since 7am and I have to be up in another 4 or so hours. I'm an old man my body shouldn't be taking this kind of punishment I feel like the fighters :lol1:
That's just how UK fans are they're passionate. Most males brought up amongst the football culture where being loud, rowdy and supportive is normal :lol1:
Froch-Kessler was one of the most atmospheric fights I've ever been to. Including Watt-Arguello, Tyson's fights when he came over here, the lot. Only one more so probably being Eubank-Benn.
Color me jealous. Best fight atmosphere I've been to was either Chavez Jr.-Martinez or DLH-Mayorga.
Up for 24 hours straight? Damn you deserve an interim or silver title, that's more work than the guys who win those titles have to put in usually. :lol1:
Whenever they start chanting "WHO ARE YA??", I'm immediately into the fight and get goosebumps. Also, "Hatton wonderland" against Floyd was the loudest chanting I've ever heard for a Vegas fight in my short time watching fights.
