If these is a reliable source, the gap is closing and the battle between these two networks giants should increase in the coming years.
Showtime increased from 14mill to 23mill meanwhile HBO drops from 32mill to 28.7mill. What are you guys is thoughts?

People still watch homeland? Lol
Showtime television shows are god awful. They look like basic cable shows for the most part.
Homeland's alright
HBO does have the better shows though
Homeland and Dexter are Emmy winners, so I would say Showtimes original programming is closing the gap fast
I couldn't care less about Emmy nods. As the saying goes opinions are like Assholes. The most popular shows are all on HBO.
HBO has more subscribers so they have higher ratings. That's nothing new.
But Showtime is cutting the gap between them and catching up which is great. Healthy competition between two successful networks can only help boxing.
No need to try and downplay Showtime's gains just because Pac is over on HBO.
As I said, with such subscriber gains you'd think they could do better than 1 fight in 15 most watched.
Competition sounds good, but before they became GBP's house network they had more boxing on, with lots of cheap, well chosen matchups, like JLC Corrales, Vazquez vs Marquez series, S6 and the bantam tournament, some quality Shobox, etc. But sustaining GBP's big and expensive roster takes a lot more money, hence the gaping holes in their coverage this year. I like the trend of 3-4 deep cards though (cheaper for them too), but not at the cost of so many boxing free saturdays.

http://www.badlefthook.com/2013/10/8/4817354/cotto-vs-rodriguez-does-boxings-highest-cable-rating-of-2013
It's worth noting that for all the talk of Showtime having a great year and making strides, 13 of the 15 highest-rated fights on cable this year have come from HBO.
Keep in mind that since Cotto DRod, Showtime has only had the Hopkins Murat card, peaking at 1m, while HBO has had multiple 1.2m cards, including GGG Stevens at 1.4m. So it's possible that Showtime has 1 or even 0 of the 15 most watched premium cable cards.
Trust me, HBO's large gap in subscriptions has almost nothing to do with Boxing. HBO just has much better shows. Game Of Thrones ALONE is worth an HBO subscription.
what if it has something to do with no more sopranos on HBO and showtime has Homeland,,
Lmao true that. It honestly has zero to do with boxing. Sh*t 90% of HBO & Sho subscribers probably don't even f**king know that either network has boxing on it. They have them for their shows and movies.
this has to be one of the most pointless threads ever,,
who the hell cares about the subscriptions, what if it has something to do with no more sopranos on HBO and showtime has Homeland,,
Like really,,, who cares
Showtime has been killing it with some stacked cards. I hope they continue to have success and win more subscribers, that just means more boxing on tv for us.
Don't get why the Pac tards are upset about this. It's good news.
I don't understand why people get so emotional and defensive about this. Yeah in my opinion HBO's production level is better than Showtime's. At the end of the day though does that matter? No. Obviously. I watch for the boxing and I'd watch it on the f**king Lifetime channel if that's where the fight was at. And do I have anything against Showtime? Some sort of fan boy agenda? No, I don't. I mean Jesus Christ I have a Showtime subscription at this household, lmfao.
Showtime in recent memory has had a big edge in better fights and more entertaining boxers. There's no doubt. But if one dare says a word about the production level of one of the networks, then they're a network fan boy with an agenda or they're gay.
Come on now.
I disagree. Despite best intentions Showtime hasn't had many FOTY candidates this year: Figueroa Arakawa and Lara Angulo, both fringe FOTY candidates, both posting a pathetic 500k viewers each.
Even schedule wise their year is highly overrated. Canelo Trout (not a great fight, nice on paper) was on April 30th. They had jack sh1t in the 4 months prior. And jack sh1t since Floyd Canelo, when the schedule is usually packed.

Ok, I ****ing hate this network battle. It's the stupidest ****ing thing I have ever heard, but I need to correct a few of the HBO fanboys who can't stand seeing more boxing for some reason.
HBO has not had more shows then showtime this year. They have had more lately. That's not a whole year.
Showtime has more high level fighs on each card.
Showtime production is just fine. Maybe I'm not as materialistic as some of you ladies but where is the difference?
Pretty much. People forget when showtime was killing it this year and hbo was quiet
Lara Logan.. yes sir..
They(HBO) really have. They started the year off strong and are finishing stron as well... but there's still more boxing in the next few weeks. Which I don't get why people would complain or fight about.
Even before the official GBP-Showtime merger, boxing on that network was great. The smw round robin tournament, the 118 tourney and quality fights since the like Shobox on Fridays. The thing that puzzles me are the fans fighting like little girls. We don't see that with the NFL on Fox or CBS, Sunday night and Monday night football on nbc and espn. Know why? Cause they know the more football the better.
Same thing with the NBA on espn, tbt & abc. "Oh, the graphics and angles on cbs is better than fox." Dudes just need to seriously grow up a bit. But Lara Logan can get it
Yes, she can get it very much (me and my buddies use that term, lol). The last two years Shotime has done better to me based off more fights, new fighters, back up fights if a knockout occurs, and no 1 or 2 fight cards.
You said 60 minute sports and all i have is two words from that: Lara Logan.
On another note, I read that someone say how HBO has done so much boxing the last 2 months. Great for boxing, but it seems to be the "what have you done for me lately" type thing with people. They only remember what was most recent. Shotime has constantly put on better cards over the past 2-3 years as well as introducing us to new fighters. HBO has constantly given us 1 and 2 fight cards. I have both so I am overly satisfied, but Shotime has been doing a much better job when it comes to boxing over the past 2 years.
