I'm kind of tired, just make a decision already. Cotto usually has four month training camps so I don't see him taking the March 8 fight vs Canelo. I think he's going for the legacy and will try to become the first Puerto Rican to be a world champ in four different divisions.
Proof? It's called being an insider. They'll announce it once Richard decides to announce it, which will likely be tomorrow. Cotto yet to sign the PPV contract, last minute numbers were being crunched, but the fight itself is set.
I hope you're right... But you sound like an absolute clown for this being your "proof" lmao.
Legacy wise a martinez fight does wayyy more for cotto than a Canelo fight.
If he loses to Canelo, of course it does nothing for his legacy. But if he beats Canelo (probably by KO, the cards will be filled out in advance) it also won't do much for legacy since Canelo will be done and consigned to scrapheap
Cotto's decision will be highly influenced by Roach's input. Cotto, I believe, is in Macau to talk to Roach for his next fight.
So the question will be if you were Roach who will you pick? Don't forget to ask which fight is winnable? Or which fight is more challenging to crack?
Forget about the money. Both will be lucrative, with the other a couple million more lucrative.
I think your emotions are getting the better of you, not to mention your business savy has room for improvement! If you look at Cotto's last 10 fights, they've been 1 of 2 things. A victory over a journeyman or a loss to a champion (6-4*) ....so it's no fluke! Cotto is better than a journeyman, but not quite as good as today's champions.
Yet his name still cast a champions shadow, and his fanbase continue to bask in his shadow. At this point, it's more about marketing for Cotto's brain trust than it is creating his legacy. Now if they can do both, awesome! but the former is his focus right now.
He has way too much to lose fighting Martinez first......this is why he WILL fight Canelo first!!!!
my honest unbiaded opinion.....Cotto is competitive the first half of the fight...but is worn, weary and busted the second half of the fight....both fighters win...Canelo the fight...Cotto a large payday with a Martinez showdown already in the works....not bad for a man who hasn't beaten a legitmate belt holder in quite a few years!
* is for the Margarito loss and the win...we shouldn't count as much in either column.
Yeah you are right but look at those champs he fought: Undefeated Floyd Mayweather and he gave him one of his hardest fights, Manny pacquiao who at the time was destroying everybody, Austin trout is a horrible style matchup for him. You can't knock him for losing to Floyd and pac since almost everyone else does
I think it's the other around. He should fight Canelo first and Martinez will always be there.
Cotto is moving further from his prime while Canelo is getting closer to entering his...timing here is crucial if Cotto hopes to be competitive....which a champion like Cotto no doubt hopes to be.
If he wins...career defining moment...opens up a plethora of opportunites.....if he loses, well Martinez is just as old.....so Cotto doesn't lose a whole lot of ground fighting Maravilla later, rather than sooner....not to mention Martinez has been less than the spectacular as of late, add the existing animosity the two have, this is still a big draw even after a Canelo loss.
If he fights Martinez first and losses, well, you can milk the whole Mex/PR rivalry, but the reality is Cotto will be seen (off the Island) as a glorified journeyman at this point in his career, with his last 4 fights of legit contenders/champs all being losses (Pac, Floyd, Trout and Sergio). With Cotto undoubtedly fading and growing old, while Canelo gets closer and more comfortable with his prime...it will be a hard PPV to sell. Outside of the Mex/PR Rivalry, it's almost a tuneup fight/resume booster for Canelo in this scenario.
So get your money now Cotto, win or lose, Sergio will be waiting for you just as long in the tooth as yourself. Mo Money, Mo Money! and if you beat Sergio, it will buy you another big name fight. Mo Money! Mo Money!
Umm no. The only reason the fight with Sergio is good right now is because cotto wants to become the first Rican to win a title in four divisions. Martinez is also on his way out you can tell from watching his last fight he is not the same and now another layoff and surgery. Canelo is very young and isn't going anywhere soon. Martinez might very well lose his next fight he keeps getting injured. It would be dumb to say martinez will always be there because if he loses his next fight the cotto vs martinez isnt lucrative anymore. Canelo isn't going anywhere. Fight martinez now Canelo will still be there later.

Golden Boy just tried to rob FLOYD MAYWEATHER in a fight with Canelo... Cotto can KO Canelo and they would still announce Ginger the winner. Fight Martinez, he'll be the one who HBO wants to win that fight and IMO he will win the fight. Make history, make 8 million + and still have a Canelo option on the table, and/or Floyd.

Cotto has turned down money before. He coulda fought Pacquiao but choose Trout instead. He may do it again. He'll be treated like the star by HBO and Top Rank if he fights Martinez. He's a stepping stone for Golden Boy.
He skipped the Manny fight to make more money fighting Floyd. He has the same options if he beats either Canelo or Sergio.
he can take one fight after the other , but seems like ricans dont want the canelo fight, why take only one when you can take the 2 fight and make more money and legacy??
anyways from all the polls ive seen so far canelo-cotto is the fight that most fans want to see, except for cotto fans....
If Cotto chooses Martinez it doesn't mean he'll never fight Canelo. Martinez is pretty much on his way out the door while Canelo is still young and fresh, it's pretty easy to understand why Martinez would be the priority.
I would say if it doesn't get announced soon he is probably going for Canelo. I would think Top Rank/HBO would want to use this event as a jumping off point.

Go for history and become the lineal MW champion. Let Canelo's bitch ass sell his own PPV's, since he's such a huge draw and all :lol1:

Wish they would stack the deck one time before their careers are over and put Cotto vs Martinez on the undercard of a Pacquiao vs a top HBO boxer (cuz u know May aint fighting with hbo undercard fighters)
