Imagine if this fight happened, imagine if Bhop made it to 160 and some bogus middleweight title was on the line, could this happen? And if it could, would it be a PPV draw.
We all know Floyd Mayweather is a PPV name, although he requires a good opponent to really reach the highlights of PPV sales, namely Canelo, Cotto, Oscar and Hatton. Bhop isn't that, he is hardly known outside of boxing circles except as "that old boxer who wins titles". Even in boxing he doesn't have many fans.
could this be a PPV hit?
floyd vs hopkins is the biggest fight floyd could make right now, outside of a manny fight.
it would be much bigger than a fights with: khan, alexander, broner, garcia, etc
hopkins-floyd in may, with khan-garcia 2 on the undercard,, that would be sweet
Really? Floyd is much smaller with a smaller reach, how's he gona jab Hops or land that right hand? To do that, he'll have to jump in and out of range, leaving himself open for big shots against Hops, who hits hard compared to a welterweight. If Hops was healthy at 160, he'd beat Floyd, no questions, maybe even stop him.
Floyd has much faster reflexes. Hopkins will have problems landing, just like almost all of those who fight Mayweather. Floyd will land his right hand with ease once he times it like he always does.
You make a good argument, but I'll politely disagree because of the reasons listed above.
Hopkins would have to lure Mayweather into a brawl to have a legitimate shot at winning. I don't see that happening. This fight would do well on pay-per-view but Mayweather would win an easy and boring decision just by doing what he does so well.
Hopkins is one of my favorite fighters, he's a tough son of a gun but if this fight actually took place (which it won't) Mayweather would win at least 9 rounds of it.

Yep, could be a big fight but I doubt Hopkins can make 160 and never will Floyd go up there, it took him a catchweight of 152 to fight a legitimate light middle who wasn't even primes yet and had barely fought any top names.
Two future first ballot hall of famers who many in the boxing world know. Throw in the fact that Hopkins with his size (assuming healthy) would pose a real threat at dethroning Floyd and giving him his first loss. Yes this fight could be HUGE.
People don't even care that Floyd's fights are boring. Lets be honest about it, they are. As long as he keeps winning, people continue to watch to see the best perform. He's done such a great job at marketing himself that he REALLY can fight anybody and sell. Whether it's someone fairly unknown like Lara or a Mexican b side, he'll sell either way. Which is why it's kind of annoying hearing his fans call him a superstar, but he can't fight guys like Lara b/c "nobody knows him." It'll sell anyway, he's a super duper draw, remember?
Of course everybody knows Hopkins. He's the guy who stopped Trinidad and De La Hoya. Anyone who was ever been a Hoya/Trinidad fan, which is a ton of people, will know who Hopkins is. And he's a top 3 premium cable ratings draw. As an A-side, he's no longer a PPV draw, but he'll do great as a B-side. People might say it would be boring so nobody would want to watch it, but nobody watches Mayweather fights to be entertained anymore. They watch him for the possibility to get beat. Hopkins, a much bigger guy with skills, will provide that allure.
The Oscar and Tito fights were a long time ago, no one I know outside of boxing fans know Hopkins. BUT I'm sure the fight would sell but would it be a disappointment like the Guerrero or Ortiz fights or a massive deal ala Canelo/Cotto etc.
Speaking of coming down to 160, why not Martinez v Hopkins at 160?
