take khan for example. 2 or 3 fights a year? why so little
no other sport is like that.
can you imagine a tennis star like andy murray only playing once a year?
becouse they have a 8-10 weeks of preparation before each fight, they body needs time to regenerate, one cant be in training camp all the time and improve.
The fight itself aint a problem, thats an usuall hour long intense workout. If it was only a fight and no preparation they could fight twice a week (minus cuts and their face getting all ****ed up ofcourse)
Its tough getting punched in the face for 36 minutes by another fit strong athlete trained to dissect you with his fists, takes time to recover and get back to training for the next fight.
I think its all money bro. Back in the early days of boxing the best boxers in the world, guys like SRR, would fight 10 times a year. It's all about the money, recovery time isn't bad for these guys, unless you're like Tim Bradley after the Provodnikov fight everytime you fight
I don't see any reason why the top guys can't fight an average of 4 times a year. They used to fight that often not very long ago and some fighters like GGG and Donaire still do. I also don't understand why so many fighters turn pro at such an old age. A fighter should turn pro no later than 21 years old ideally. Then when they are in their prime between 24 and 28 they have good pro experience. They should have made big money if they are really good and be ready to retire in their early 30s instead of winning their first title when they are 35 or 36 years old.
People like Khan expect to earn six figures every time they fight. Its not possible to generate that kind of money fighting 5 times a year (even if he was fit enough and wanted to do it).
Unless you take a bad beating or get injured/cut, i dont see why everybody cant fight 3X a year.
I also don't see why fighters cant take easier stay busy fights in between big fights instead of sparring a million rounds in the gym
Khan will have only fought once this year which is stupid in my opinion.
But I don't blame fighters for not fighting more than 2/3 times a year. It is a dangerous sport where you need time to recover and train.
Why don't boxers fight more often, should be like tennis players!
It should be noted tennis players do not get punched around a court, hence
they can play very regularly.
Murray, a boxing fan, can only gape in amazement at the likes of
Provodnikov, Alvarado and the complete boxer - Andre Ward.

because it has a much different business model than any other sport.once purses started climbing routinely into the millions the matchmaking process got alot more difficult.now promoters could lose alot of money if their guy fights 5 or 6 times a year and he happens to lose.its better safe than sorry.zab judah is a prime ex. of why alotta top guys dont fight much
