James Degale looked very good for most of the fight against Davis last night. He looks like one of the best super middleweights on the planet right now. I thought Degale beat Groves clearly and was robbed in that fight largely due to the crowd who were mainly supporting Groves and cheered at everything he did, which in turn influenced the judging.
Dyah Davis sparred with Andre Dirrell in preparation for the Degale fight, but Degale dominated him in nearly every round. Degale can get sloppy sometimes and holds his hands low a lot which he would have to sharpen up against the likes of Ward and Froch but I give Degale a decent shot at beating both fighters. He is approaching elite level very fast and I believe he would up his game with the added motivation of fighting an elite level boxer.
He seems to say that every fight.
Not surprised he "switchs off" because it's quite clear the guy is borderline retarded.
lol...
To be fair the only top class opp he has had was groves, and he lost that one, well it could of gone either way imo.
He needs a name, Abraham would be a good start.
It's a fair assessment but I sense (just like Al Bernstein) that Degale fights to the level of his competition and the interviews I've seen with him show that he's not highly motivated fighting at the current level. I suspect that he'll step up his game when he's put in with the best.
He did have a few lapses of concentration in that fight, he even admitted in the post fight interview that he switched off in round 8 which is when he was caught with a solid right hand but I don't think he'd do that if he's fighting for a world title, he'd remain motivated and focused throughout.

I've posted my long and possibly tedious opinions on the Gobal Boxing Scene Board...but just to be clear, I think James still has much, much work to do. Ward and Froch will have taken one look at that fight and smiled.
James totally outclassed Davis and was virtually in 'exhibition mode' for the first six rounds but then inexplicably switched-off and had some tough-ish rounds against a guy who is not at all good at playing the aggressor but who suddenly started getting a bit of success playing his least favourite game.
Dyah lacked the firepower and belief to make James pay for this lack of fight-pacing and sudden lapse into a neutral gear; but Froch, Ward, Groves, Kessler, Bika would land the telling shots that mattered.
Chunky has talent to burn and hit Davis for fun last night; but this worrying tendency to get flat footed, with no punches in the bag and to stand right in harm's way can and will get exploited in this ruthless division.
There's some serious work to do and McDonnell reads needs to teach James how to pace a fight.

wards not a draw though. he got 2 million for some absurd reason just fighting bum rodriguez. if he fights chavez, chavez is not going to want to give him an equal split and chavez only got 2 million to fight martinez. ward's already the most overpaid man in the universe. he should sit back and collect the money from dumb hbo who pays 2 million to a guy with lousy ratings and no excitement.
True.
I just want to see him move up and fight Kovalev.

Yeah I get that sense to.
Money.

Ward wants the Chavez Jr fight badly. Thats the impression I get when I hear him talk
Its a money fight but its hard to justify right now. Chavez should fight Froch first. I don't think he would win but it would make the Ward fight legit.
Moving up seems ridiculously logical to me.
Kovlaev and Stevenson are both with HBO and are both good top fights.

Well that answers that.
Basically Ward needs to move up. GGG would be a good fight but he needs to beat Martinez first and that won't be until the end of next year at the earliest. And I don't want to see Ward inactive and waste another year in his prime.

He's asked Hennessy to deliver him a title shot (or else). Who's he aiming at?
He's supposed to fight Periban in an eliminator. But then the WBC want the winner of that to fight Chavez Jr in a final eliminator which is ridiculous.
Chavez would be a big money fight for DeGale though so I doubt he'd complain but there's a high chance he'd get screwed on the cards again.
Bika or one of the other weaker belts.
He's not fighting Ward, absolutely no way.

Why would judges give a fight to Groves? Degale is a young, brash, good-looking Olympic GOLD medalist who is easy to sell. If they were gonna rip anyone off it would have been Groves. Seriously this is a ****ing joke. Your wrong, stop replying, I told you to go away.
Groves was the fan favourite because of his fake nice guy persona in the build-up. People felt sorry for the poor ugly kid

I've seen a couple of fights but not familiar with his business dealings. If they offered him the same $1 mil that they gave Edwin would he take it?
If he fights 3-4 times next year I'm all for it. You can't fight 3 killers per year. With the quick turnaround I think its a good fight to take.
Degale's not going to fight Ward.
No chance.
DeGale has no conviction in his punches man,c'mon anyone can see that.he really has no power at the weight, you can't make somebody respect you when their not hurting you.I am no Groves fan,as neither am I a DeGale fan,but you look at Groves and he throws some punishing shots, where with DeGale he lacks anything special.
Looking at Groves vs Froch opinion is 60/40 Froch, with DeGale chances against Froch folk laugh, hard.
Funny that Groves was the only one who was hurt in their fight then...
