Fighters not making weight is very unprofessional. It is embarrassing, given that all they have to do for 2 months is watch what they eat and exercises. However, I will say that what's even worse is fighters still agreeing to fight, given an opponent's failure to make weight. A fighter should do the right thing and not take the fight, to make promoters or networks really think about giving future opportunities to the fighter who failed to make weight. I understand fighters need money, but maybe contracts should be written to stipulate some condition for this. It would be the best thing to cancel a fight, in order to teach those fighters, who fail to make weight, a lesson. Unfortunately, these networks and promoters are too lenient about this and think more about money than a fighter's safety. I think about Mayweather-Marquez or Broner-Escobedo, where the opponent doesn't even try to make weight, that's an embarrassment and an insult to everyone involved. What are your opinions about this issue in boxing?
I feel bad for Andre Ward, but I am sure he will teach this dude a lesson in the ring.
I never like it when a fighter misses weight. It's unprofessional and starts everything off on a bad note. I mean, perhaps there are circumstances where a fighter just can't do it, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Some times the fight with the scale is your toughest fight of the event, or so I've heard.
But I don't know nothin' 'bout no exploits............ Rockin':boxing:
Then sometimes maybe you should have moved up.
You're a professional prize fighter?
Act like it.
Cancel the show and refund everybody? because the paying customer isn't going to settle for half a product. You can't force them to make weight, those few lbs extra could potentially put the fighters life at risk. If he can't make the weight then he can't make the weight and sometimes you really aren't going to know until you're right down.
The thing is that the contract stipulates making the weight. You potentially put another fighter's life at risk when you allow those fights to take place, though. The guy who struggles to make weight doesn't make weight, and then rehydrates 20 or 30 lbs. and risks his opponents life on fight night. Both fighters must make weight, so they both go through that process. If one cannot make weight, then the fight should be canceled, in order to punish that sort of behavior. Any other profession would have you fired for not doing your job. Instead boxing sometimes rewards this type of behavior by giving those fighters future title shots or time slots on HBO or Showtime.
Absolutely not but I am afraid there really isn't much that can be done that I can think of anyway.
It just sucks for everybody involved.
And what sucks is the entire fight is put into jeopardy because of one person

Doesn't excuse it from being unprofessional though

That's right, bro. There are so many dudes that have done this, and they need to be reprimanded. Boxing needs a complete overhaul.
I hated that the guy who fought dzin last year weighed in 15 pounds over....disgraceful
And Camacho Jr. is a disgrace to the name.... I don't think he's ever made weight
It sure is and we should all hold them accountable for it whether we like them or not.

All showed levels of professionalism by missing weight
