New foe for @mattmacklin on 12/7 on @HBOboxing in place of injured Willie Nelson is Lamar Russ (14-0, 7 KOs), says @loudibella
Oh well, short notice
Doesn't have a huge twitter following, you could probably get a response from him

He signed with Lou Diabella, sparred Edwin for Ward and Golovkin
I feel Macklin is overrated. He's a B-Level fighter at best. Russ has experience sparring with one of the worlds best in GGG which will hold him in great stead for this fight. GGG may have passed him advice on how to approach the fight. Russ has a good chance in this one and will cause Macklin problems with his movement.
Not a bad fight but am I the only one who wants to see Macklin-Rosado/Stevens?
Nothing wrong with that, but no chance either one will be ready to fight on 12/7.
Lamar is a very good boxer and has skills. I remember his trainer used to sometimes use the gym that I used to workout at in Spring Lake, NC. I'm going with Lamar on this one. Macklin may have been looking for an easy fight, but he's going to have his hands full and will be outboxed. Lamar has good speed, movement, and hits harder than expected.
Have you seen any of his fights live? i can only find two of them and one of the is just the KO.
Interested in this kid. He's got decent height

Macklin doesnt know what's waiting for him....Lamar's sparring partner may give Lamar an advice or two.. :D

Yo, thoe homebody Korobovs just sittin by waiting for those big fights. if they want it they can get it, haha.
Arum should try and set up something bignext year
It's a shame, because I believe a fresh Korobov beats most MW's out there, including Macklin, Rosado and Stevens tbh....
Well I think Rosado should get a rematch against Chocolate first and foremost, personally... but if that doens't happen, Macklin-Rosado would be an interesting matchup. Macklin or Rosado versus Stevens as well..... or....................
Korobov

We almost had Rosado/Macklin,but Rosado opted for the belt against Quillin

Yea, pretty big step up for him at this point.
IMO, if Russ wins though, Macklin will probably still fight Lee

I believe Lamar is from here in NC, he's very good but this will obviously be the biggest stage he's ever been on. I wish him the best, it would be a huge splash for him if he wins this fight. If he shows up and his mind is right he could win. In a perfect world this isn't a fight that happens right now just yet- but when opportunity knocks.... here we go
Everyone starts at some point, dude. Golovkin, Macklin or Floyd fought nobody at one point as well. Dude only has 14 fights. That's what they said about Gradovich when he took the Dib fight on shortnotice and what happened? He took his title and is fighting on Manny Pacs PPV undercard this month.
As far as Russ goes... I think I saw him being interviewed as Golovkins sparring partner or something.. I have no problem with this and an undefeated "prospect" taking a fight on short notice is a hell of a lot better then a glorified journeyman/gatekeeper showing up for a paycheck IMO. The latter might provide entertainment, but the former provides a boxer an opportunity and these are the ones that changes a mans life/career.
As I'm typing this I just realized who Lamar Russ is, I knew the name sounded familiar and not just for being GGGs sparring partner - He is managed by Egis Klimas (I think the only American managaed by him at the moment) the same guy who "manages" Kovalev, Gradovich and Lomachenko.
Huge step up for Russ, we're either going to see Macklin get a W and move onto a Rosado-Lee-Mora (IMO) type fight, or we're going to see a new soon-to-be contender emerge in Russ :boxing:

He gone get KO'd
He hasn't fought anybody

Yea, i'm not knocking it. He's getting himself some exposure, I hope he comes to fight cause at least even if Macklin wins he could make himself look good. A la Rosado.
Me too, I haven't seen much from him so no idea what to expect.
Everybody needs that push
Props to him and his team for taking the opportunity on short notice.... hell... who knows what'll come from it.
He might not win, but he's getting himself out there. Plus the sparring sessions gave him good practice
