Haven't made a thread here in a while, and this question just popped into my head
Hypothetically speaking, if Adrien Broner has another below average performance at 147lbs vs Maidana on Dec 14th, much like he had against Paulie, does this make him a "weak link"?
Since he has made such a name for himself now through whatever means necessary, and seeing how he is a popular fighter, if he doesn't look stellar does this make guys like Robert Guerrero, Keith Thurman, Jesus Soto Karass etc etc eager to get a fight with him to take him out? I personally feel that if he does look average again that these guys will be looking to get a fight with him, and many guys will look at him as a target
Very astute comparison between Broner and Toney. No doubt Broner has had his ups and downs but Toney was a far more talented than Broner is now and probably ever will be.
Broner's biggest weakness is that he has this incurable ache to be a certain Mister Mayweather but he doesn't have the reflexes to go with that style of defence and definitely doesn't have the handspeed to match. This allows him to be tagged by fighters with quick hands and good chins, aka Malignaggi and Deleon and so on. Maidana will do the same, will he be able to take what Broner dishes out is a different question.
I expect Broner to win by a tough, hard fought UD.
Yeah i agree that toney is leagues above broner in terms of talent,,,
the bold is a very good point, and spot on
Broner is no floyd mayweather,,,
I have said in the past and will say again here,,, If there is a great fighter that broner is comparable to its a young james toney,,,
they both are kinda flat footed,, broner mimicks toney's defensive style,,,
Toney was the hardest talent to judge in the early 90s,,, lose nearly every round to nunn and ko him,, come from behind to win when he got cut- i think by littles,, look great vs an ATG mccallum,, look horrible vs a club fighter tiberi,, looked great vs barkley,, I have seen toney fade late, come on strong late,,,, be in great shape, be in horrible shape, dominated all 12 rounds, barely escape with a split decision,,, you name the situation and toney has been there,,,
Broner seems to be the same,,, looks horrible vs ponce,, destroys litzau, out of shape for escabido, totally ready and primed vs demarco,, horribly overconfident vs pauli,, vs maidana i think we will get the best broner but who knows,,,,

Its kind of a weird question
If a name superstar gets proven to be a bum, I'm sure everyone will be eager to fight that person to make a name for them self
Does it make him a weak link? Whatever that means... I guess
First off I really don't like bronner but I don't think bronner gets hit too much in this fight because it's gonna end early. Maidana wont get set up fast enough to hit him with full power and get Ko'd quick, then all the bronner lovers will say "you see he can fight with a hard puncher" I really hope I'm wrong on this one. He wont sit their in the pocket and let Maidana bomb on him.
Well he couldn't really set against Paulette. At 130/135 he looked devastating though.
How devastating did he look though really?
Couldn't hurt Ponce De Leon, a guy who was starched in a round by Juan Ma, stopped by Gamboa, Mares. These are Featherweights.
DeMarco took a whole lot of punishment before being stopped.
Rees was stopped by Kotelnik for crying out a loud.
Broner hasn't shown anything to suggest he's a devastating puncher, at any weight.

Maidaian just isnt that good and you can be blind folded and hit him...he is slow,plodding..why people hype him so much is beyond be...dude is going to take a beating from Broner..hell this is a step down from Paulie
I find it Hilarious how so many people on this website think Broner is Floyd Mayweather and he's going to steam roll past Maidiana . Broner to me is unproven at 147 beating Paulie is nothing hell even Hatton beat Paulie. This fight is a toss up cause Madiana at time has off days but if he's focused he's very difficult to beat. So basically this fight is no walk in the park for either fighters make the best man win.
Broner is definitely no Floyd Mayweather, as one of his staunchest critics I will confess that Floyd is the greatest defensive fighter of all time.
But Broner's defense isn't as bad as you're making out but it's stil decent imo.
Fighters don't usually open up too much against him because of how hard he hits. He underestimated Rees and Paulie.
To be honest I view Broner as a promising looking prospect, much like I view Canelo, Ortiz and many of these other up and comers, we'll have to see how this fight turns out before we make any bold statements.
I'm not making out it's bad, I'm making out it's average, or decent, like you yourself just stated.
A decent defense won't stop you getting hit clean by Maidana.
As far as I can see he's not that hard of a puncher, especially at 147.
Assuming he hits him.
There's nothing to be assumed.
Broner's defense is average at best, Maidana will land clean at some point and likely more than once.

guerrero already approached him, broner didn't want it.

This is the fight I'm most excited about for the remainder of the year.
I cannot wait to see how Broner reacts to being hit by someone who has some power.
Its ish like this that make me hate posting on this site. I don't see how some people have up to 15 k posts. But there is no way Guerrero would be favored or defeat Broner.Ortiz better continue working on expendables 3 and Bizzy Bone fight some "excuse me" on-my-way-outters.
OK let's clear this up. BRONER IS NOT FLOYD MAYWEATHER!
He isn't 'slick' he doesn't have great foot work and his shoulder roll is static. Floyd Mayweather senior said himself, once Broner fights someone with a pulse that shoulder roll is going right out the window. Sure Broner has fast hands and fights well in the pocket, but he is hittable. He sure as hell didn't look like a 13:1 favorite to me against the corpse of Paulie.
I'm not sold on Broner yet. The Maidana fight will tell us where he's really at
I favor Thurman Ortiz Guerrero over Broner. He's too hittable, and to a lot of fans he lost to PDL.
Broner gonna lose that belt boiiii

I favor Broner over Guerrero and have Thurman vs Broner as a 50/50 fight. And who cares about the PDL fight, it was years ago. Completely different weight class now.
Broner passes the eye ball test but if he has another "bad performance" at 147 then that'll be a reality check for him. He needs to stop partying and fcking around if he wants to take his career seriously.
