Hello fellow posters,
In your opinion how would Naseem Hamed fair against these top fighters in and around 122+130lbs if they had met him?
I will give my verdict below
1. Abner Mares (Decisions Mares)
2. D. Ponce De Leon (TKO by 8 for Naz)
3. Mikey Garcia (Decisions Naz)
4. Vic Darchinyan (KO by 8 for Naz)
5. Nonito Donaire (Tough one)
6. Rigo (Tough one)
7. Yuriorkis Gamboa (KO by 5 for Naz)
8. Ricky Burns (TKO/KO before 12 by Naz)
9. Johnny Gonzalez (Decisions or KO's Gonzalez)
10. Somebody You Find Competitive
Unless you're a seriously competent boxer with the footwork to really expose Hamed's balance (Rigondeaux or Garcia) then forget about it. Gonzalez has the tools, but the guy has proven himself to be brittle throughout his career and it's difficult to seriously favour him.
Donaire and Gamboa are even fights. Both are every bit as technically limited as Hamed is but they're both bigger than he is and have the firepower to trouble him.
And serious f*cking :pat: @ anyone who think Ponce would stand a chance.
In his prime he beats them all
The guy was a force to be reckoned with, speed power, good chin, amazing reflexes, and a style of boxing that we've never seen before.
Shame his hands ended up turning to glass
Barrera never fought a prime Naz and anyone who watched the docu for the build up if the fight will know Naz was out of shape first time in his career and had terrible camp
Emanuel Steward pointed this out in the docu
They all beat the mental midget that got mind & physically crushed by BARRERA. Why in the world is this bum so over rated here!?!?!?!!!!??!?
He is far from a bum, he beat everyone in his weightclass in his era.
He was never stopped once in his career, and even when he was dropped his chin was far from brittle. The man never showed any sign of being seriously hurt or wobbly legs, not to mention he had tree trunk legs on him.
Rigondeaux schools him with ease and drops him a number of times along the way.
Gamboa stops him inside 6.
Garcia stops him around 10.
Donaire beats him via UD.
The rest are close, could see either winning.
Correct me if im wrong but I recall the baby faced assassin schooled the prince and made him look bad. Even bullied him, pushing him into the turn buckle. Hameds power was a non factor as he was easily out boxed.
that is correct but we have to remember Marco Antonio Barerra is an ATG top 100, so not to many fighters could do what he have done....
Hamed was entertaining, but he never really achieved anything of note.
My friend you don't know **** about boxing...he beat 9 title holders in 37 fights lineal featherweight champion. He beat every belt holder at the weight in his era
I have to agree with therealpugilist here, I think some guys are overly underestimating Hamed....
on the list by TS, I think the guys that could win versus Hamed are Rigo, Nonito, Gonzales and maybe Garcia, not to mention that Nas would have the punchers chance against all of them...
Perhaps it didn't suit Steward's comment to mention that Hamed was a long-time sufferer from crumbling hands and especially for the last 3-4 years before he retired. He lost interest at that time, and when you consider that he trained for about 20 days for Barrera it makes sense. He retired on a win,, beating a 30-0 opponent, something not enough are able to do.

1. Abner Mares (Mares by KO)
2. D. Ponce De Leon (PDL by KO or decision)
3. Mikey Garcia (Garcia by KO)
4. Vic Darchinyan (Hamed by decision)
5. Nonito Donaire (Donaire by KO)
6. Rigo (Rigo by decision or Hamed by KO)
7. Yuriorkis Gamboa (Gamboa decision or Hamed by KO)
8. Ricky Burns (Hamed by KO)
9. Johnny Gonzalez (Gonzalez by KO or decision)
10. Roman Martinez (Martinez by decision)
Hamed was entertaining, but he never really achieved anything of note.
I wouldn't feel comfortable picking him over any of them actually.
His best chances would probably be against Ponce & Mares. In fact I'd probably pick the whole lot over him but I'd give him a punchers chance.
i think nas donaire would be a hell of a fight. real 50/50 fight.
i think rigondeoux would school him though. I also reckon he would dance around mares for an easy KO.
Think with hammed is, as emmanuel steward put it, he had the potential to be the greatest featherweight of all time. He just wasn't committed enough so I guess you can't tell what version would turn up for those big fights.

Naz pretty much can compete with any of these guys, he knocks a few out and a few of them could out box him. Naz is def underrated, his unorthodox style was his advantage it was crazy hard to time and he would throw sneaky power shots. he had those tree trunk legs too.
What made Naz fail is he lost the hunger early he started ballooning in weight and lost focus, once you lose the dedication to the sport and get soft you don't perform well.
1. Abner Mares - Mares roughs him up MAB style for the UD, maybe stops him late.
2. Ponce De Leon - Nas by UD if not late stoppage
3. Mikey Garcia - Garcia by mid to late KO
4. Vic Darchinyan - Nas by KO within 6
5. Nonito Donaire - Donaire by late KO or SD
6. Rigo - Rigondeax boxes Nas' ears off after being dropped wins by SD/UD
7. Gamboa - 50/50, both guys with good power and brittle chins. I definitely see both being dropped. Gamboa has the better fundamentals, but I can't see him surviving..
8. Ricky Burns - Irrelevant, Burns has never been a Featherweight
9. Johnny Gonzalez - Gonzalez by KO, Nas was there to be hit with the left hook, Johnny throws his with bad intentions!
10. Chris John - I truly feel he would give Nas fits, he's a good counter puncher with solid whiskers. I can see him winning by SD

Well said, he had great potential and charisma such a shame he never really showed the World what he could do.
