At the very least for the Ring Magazine.
Hate him or love him, he had a very active year with 3 of his 4 fights being against Ring Top 10 opposition.
He blasted out the Ring champion, battered Cloud into submission and is now taking on another top 10 opponent in his weight class.
I won't argue that it's debatable though.
Dawson was knocked out in his last fight, but at 168
Cloud was coming off a loss to Hopkins and was never that impressive
Bellew is coming off those debatable fights against Chilemba
Still though, he's fighting people who're recognized at the top of his weight class and beating them.
As much as I like GGG, he stands no chance compared to Adonis. I think he might at the very least win it with the Ring since he's taking out everyone rated in the top 10.... but I have a feeling everybody will give it to Floyd.
According to Ring, Floyd beat two P4P fighters this year, he's definitely gonna get it.
IMO it all depends on how you rate Chad Dawson. Was Chad Dawson a hype job or was he a legit challenger at the time. I think it's somewhere in between with Dawson. I mean lets be honest he built his whole career beating up 40 year olds.
Rigo won't get it. HBO blacklisted him after he schooled Donaire. He has an irrelevant fight against Agbeko in December. He should have fought at least once more since the Donaire fight by now. It's a shame because he would have the best case right now.
Danny Garcia and Bradley also have strong arguments.
Dawson was not a hypejob at all, just made a hugely dumb move to drop to 168 and was probably damaged goods.
He should win fighter of the year but if the fight is close or disputed it could hurt his chances. If he scores another one sided knock out I am sure most fans and most of the groups that give out such awards will give it to him.
It should be adonis or sosa. Even estrada has a great case. Beating viloria and melindo was a great feat
I agree, he has a very strong case as well. But the lower weight classes don't get as much exposure.
I don't think he should be FOTY, for the exact reasons you listed. Imo Bradley, Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia (if he beats Martinez), Rigo (if he beats Agbeko), Sosa (if he beats Yaegashi) and heck, even Floyd had a better campaign this year.
Stevenson's quality of opp this year is clearly worse than Donaire's was last year, and I recall many saying Donaire shouldn't be FOTY because he didn't beat "elite" opponents.

Pretty boy floyd Joy Money Mayweather. Defended his Junior Middleweight Championship (in a record setting fight), dominated his opponent who many said he would lose to, Defended his Welterweight Championship by domination, Ring p4p championship by domination, for christ sake he's now the Supreme WBC Champion. How can it be anyone else, except for maybe Danny. Its has to go to the absolute greatest, supreme, TWO division champion who defended two different weight class titles. They have to look for middleweights and above to test him no ones close to him, hell Pac doesnt even have a belt to speak of so he's no challenge. :nana::boxing:
I know it makes you mad. (you know who you are):hijacked:
This is a post by the misinformed that are "informed" :banghead:
Mayweather shouldn't even be considered AT ALL for FOTY when dudes Rigondeaux is alive.
Canelo being at #1 for JMW was the biggest joke ever.
Stevenson will definitely be a strong candidate if he beats Bellew (and he will). But there are a number of other potentially strong candidates for me. Kovalev, Froch, Golovkin, Mayweather, Bradley, Provodnikov, Broner (don't laugh, what if he beats or even stops Maidana?), Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia, Rigondeaux, Juan Estrada, Yaegashi and Edgar Sosa.
I'm more impressed with KOvalev's resume to be honest. Campillo, White, Cleverly, Sillakh>>> Boone, Dawson, Cloud, Bellew
Boone is a solid journeyman but nothing special. Chad is just done and was overrated to begin with. Campillo beat Cloud, who was outclassed by an ancient B Hop. Cleverly beat Bellew. Idk I think What Kovalev has done is more impressive. Yeah you can say Adonis beat the number 1 in the division, but does anyone really know what Dawson has left? The guy just got stopped by Ward...
I like Rigo for the year if he gets past Agbeko. Not only would that be a solid win, but it'd follow his victory over the reigning boxer of the year. The quality that could be from those two would get my vote
stevenson has an excellent shot at being FOTY. the problem is HBO behind the scenes will surely push GGG over him.
