i read that jaidon codrington is a atlanta police officer
it got me thinking that a lot of these guys must be doing something on the side
check curtis stevens, he was out from 2010 to 2012 .. didnt he work as a lawyer or something
any news on what these guys get up 2 cos no way boxing pays their bills
Anthony Bonasonte was a night manager at Walmart. Pavlik did some kind of blue collar work up until either the Miranda or Taylor fight. I wanna say he laid concrete or something. But yeah only a small percentage are living off boxing alone.
That's ****ing stupid. Only amateur standouts get those kind of deals from promoters. The majority of pro fighters aren't amateur standouts or Olympians. Just because they have a day job doesn't make them a bum. The average fighter starts of making peanuts without a big promoter or manger to protect them. Glen Jhonson, Salido and even JMM had a job before he became world champions. Rosado always worked while he trained until this last year. I know a but right now with only two pro fights and I asked his trained what happened to him and he told me he's just been working. He has bills to pay and the kind of money he makes just doesn't cut it. He's no bum, he'll never be a champ probably but he's a good fighter. Boxing isn't a easy sport to make it in.
It's not what you know it's who you know. If your a flawed fighter but have Haymon as you manager he'll protect you and get you and hand picked opponent to fight for a vacant title. It's only until you've proven your mettle and show promise as a real prospect that big promoters do that. But even then you don't make much money fighting on espn or shobox.
No offense but you and the other dumb poster keep saying "I know a fighter who is ok but he'll never be that great or a champ, and he has to work but he's no bum" Ummm you guys are basically describing the definition of a BUM, so you prove my whole point
most decent prospects are given advances and their living is paid for by promoters as an investment so no they don't need a job. Only bum fighters who promoters don't care to touch probably have a day job. Decent prospects will have a promoter paying for his monthly expenses as an investment so that the fighter can focus on training

A tiny percentage DON'T have day jobs. Top level guys make big money but only a few get there and it takes time unless you just won a medal in the Olympics.
Keyboard warrior.
Hope the waitress stiffs you on your share of the tip when you get finished busing the tables.
lol you're mad that you and your favorite boxer are bums :lol1:
I'm a CEO of a major fortune 500 corporation. So yes you are a bum to me :nana:

wilder was a deep undercover agent when he got caught beating that hooker.
andre berto was a federal agent who was sent in to take down the al haymon crime syndicate. haymon found out and made him fight decent fighters. berto pretended like he knew how to box but it just wasn't good enough...
wilder was a deep undercover agent when he got caught beating that hooker.
Golovkin is a coroner for his day job, he gets to inspect the bodies of his victims right after each fight
So sad that there are people like you who call themselves boxing fans.
So by your reckoning, any fighter who doesn't do well enough in the amateurs to merit a contract with a promoter or manager fronting money from the start of his career is a bum. Do you know how many world champions started that way, THEN attracted a promoter?
And what of guys who got that treatment from the start and then didn't quite cut it -- maybe they are former contenders or former world champs.
How about a guy who came up hard, turned pro and just fights for a living. He's not a contender, he's never going to be a champ, but he wins some and he loses some and he gives it everything he has every time out, works a full-time job and STILL finds time to train and be in shape? You look DOWN upon this guy? You're BETTER than him?
A kid who turns pro in Mexico at 15 and fights full-grown men, takes his beatings but sticks with it and learns to be a good fighter.
To you every fighter who meets those discriptions is a BUM?
Really?
You aren't fit to tie their shoes. If you have no more respect than that for the men who risk their lives and health to step into a boxing ring, please do me a favor and go be a fan of something else
Please tell us what you do with your life that makes you so good that you can call these guys bums. I really got to hear this.

how old are you, dog?
curtis stevens is making 300 in purses tonight. after taxes and management / trainer he is probably making 150K or so. manager's can't take more than 33% by law. many are @ around 30. trainers fee is 10% standard, and that's 10% of the untaxed purse figure(same as manager.) after that the fighter can make money on sponsorships. that's taxed, and whoever sets it up likely takes a cut.
150k a year is much more than you'll ever make in a year, because you're stupid as f#Ck.
his only job is boxing at this point in his career. he's not going to make hugey money in his career, but he's doing ok. he probably got work as a sparring partner during his layoff. he is not driving supercars then or now. if he beats golovkin he is looking at a payday of a million plus, and his life would start to really change.
now, if he didn't fight on the networks every once in a while, and was an ESPN fighter, he'd probably need a day job. club fighters usually have day jobs.
If his purse is 300k I think he'll actually take home even less maybe 100k if not less than that. But I could be wrong
yes curtis stevens is a lawyer in his spare time and adrian broner is a scientist
wilder was a deep undercover agent when he got caught beating that hooker.
He is not talking about now, he is talking about the 2 years he was off.
Btw Curtis Stevens a lawyer? That had to be sarcasm
go back and reread that hoe. the layoff was addressed.
and it wasn't likely sarcasm. the OP is an idiot.
I would say the guys you see on tv, and the young blue-chip prospects only do boxing,, but that is only about 5% roughly of all active fighters,,,
Yes lots of them have other jobs,,, gotta pay the bills somehow,,, guys like molina, rosado, glen johnson etc all worked other jobs before hitting big in boxing,,,,
if your not a tv fighter, or a carefully managed prospect, then you are making only a few grand per fight,, 1200-3000 is probably the range, and then you have to pay your managers, trainers, etc,,,,,
