Thats not what the thread title states and he TS would still be wrong if that were the case.
Maybe he used the wrong wording.
As far as pressure fighters go, you wouldn't say Chavez had some of the best D along with Duran?
I'm not saying compared to Sweet Pea or anything. I'm talking amongst those type of fighters (the pressure type).

De la Hoya said the same thing.
Oscar fought a way past prime chavez,,,,, and it was prime oscar who was at his peak,,,,, Similar to floyd vs gatti,,,, a peaking star vs an over the hill star,, and chavez was way better than gatti but you get the point,, it would be like jmm or hopkins fighting some peaking ATG now,,, Oscar caught chavez at the perfect time, not oscar's fault, he wasnt around in the 80s
Everybody lands on that juice head Marquez. Everybody. Look at how TURDSACK Jandeng left his face. Marquez's defense is waaaay overrated.
I totally agree,, everyone hits jmm,,, jmm is just a bad mofo and can take it and unleash a counter combo,,,,
Chavez was a much better defender in his prime than jmm ever was,,,, If jmm engages he gets tagged, that wasnt the case for chavez
Chavez's skills are criminally underrated,,,
in his prime from 83-89 he was a thing machine,,,
he could bob and weave slightly to make a guy miss, and then crack with either hand,,
Chavez is one of the greatest fighters ever,,,, If you dont think that then You DKSAB
Its not fair to compare a way past prime Marquez to Chavez, I doubt Marty Jakubumski would have landed more on Marquez, not a very good way to gauge their defensive skills in their primes.
Agreed.
Comparing past prime Marquez to prime Chavez isn't fair and it's still arguable even then.
Great is a stretch but he was damn good defensively.
That's going too far, Chavez would have never gotten bombarded with punches the way Marquez did against Diaz and Katsidis, granted a prime Marquez primarily used his legs to defend but Chavez knew how to roll and smother his opponents.
In my honest opinion, off topic here but Chavez would have destroyed Pryor and I don't think it would be that competitive.

This simply isn't true, he wasn't a great defensive fighter, his defence at times was good but certainly not great, at times his defence was bad, Mayweather, Taylor, Lockridge, Whitaker and Laporte all found him very easily, even crappy fighters were hitting him aswell, Jacubumski was landing flush.
No he really wasn't there are many fighters who were far slicker moving forward, Duran was levels above him in that regard.
i agree with this post wholehearttedly although i dont remember seeing jacumbumski fight....and im not a black supremacist either..:D
defense was never sr's forte, breaking down opponents , body punching in exchange of taking shots on the way in is .. he was not on duran's league...
Also, people don't even understand what the definition of slick is, slick is being able to get your opponent to take the bait. The way Judah set Mayweather up, how Judah would paw with the jab and as soon as Mayweather reacted (Any little twitch) Judah's straight left hand came down the middle, that's slick. Or how Hopkins in instances jumped in against Tito, mind you he jumped in with the sole intention of then getting out, Tito reacted and Hopkins hit him with a short right hook. Doesn't have to be that complex though, hopefully you guys get my drill.

marquez in his hey day wouldve never gotten tagged the way he did against diaz or katsdis.
both chavez and marquez's defense decreased at that age (mid to late 30's)
He used it a lot because he was a great defensive fighter. He was also a great technical boxer.
Like the TS said, he hardly ever got cut, swollen or any marks at all. There's a reason for that.
Great is a stretch but he was damn good defensively.
As far as I see it's been backed up with examples.
Chavez definitely had a good defense, underrated this day and age, and was very very skilled but his defense simply wasn't great.
His defense was no better than Marquez' or Morales' IMO.

That's nonsense.
I can't speak for Ruben but I for one would never say Broner has a better defence than Chavez.
Broner I wouldn't describe as Slick either.
Never called Broner slick or ever rated his defence on here, so this guy is just pulling random crap out of nowhere.
Marquez was never the aggressive machine Chavez was.
My point is for someone to be that offensive and still have very good defense is just great overall.
Of course.
Chavez is an all time great I doubt anyone would dispute that.
