He would be more likely to be disliked for being over exposed, then he would probably get called over hyped after losing to Duran then called lucky in the rematch, would probably get called out for ducking Pryor by a large group no matter the circumstances, get mad props for the Kalule and Hearns fights which virtually nobody would pick him to win. Then he would get called a bitch over the whole Hagler retirement thing especially how he did it and people would say Hagler would kill him before the fight and that he fought like a bitch afterward.
Which I am pretty sure what happened back then except to a smaller degree because people didn't have as much access to information and group thinking. In short he would be like most popular guys some would love him, some would not be able to stand him and virtually no one would be silent about him.
this is a great point
No surprise here, Bpoop always looking for sympathy.
Bpoop = boring as fuck
SRL/SRR = not boring as fuck
And more importantly, they would draw more than 1,500 people and wouldn't flop and dive in the ring after a boring clinchfest
I agree with Bernard. If general public has no respect for what Mayweather or Bradley does they would not like SRL. He would be criticized for ducking fights and running during fights.
alright, since I see you guys didn't watch the video I'll explain. He was talking about how all out wars with no skill is glorified these days. How fighters, specifically slick black boxers, are called boring. He then talks about how boxing is getting away from the sweet science that it was built on. He calls the names of some fighters that would be considered boring today. and he speaks on how taking those punches affect the fighters outside the ring. It was a great interview.
I agree with Hopkins to a degree, but fighters like Canelo use similar tactics as Mayweather but yet nobody calls him boring.Mikey Garcia is a boxer puncher but nobody calls him boring. Before Rigondeaux beat Donaire, nobody was calling him boring.Ass soon as he beats Donaire, all of a sudden he`s call boring even though he fought the same way everytime. So its more about race then how entertaining a fighter is.And yes Hopkins is right,Suger Ray Leonard would be called boring today by a lot of people, not all.Tim Bradley`s style is similar to Ray Leonard but yet he`s called boring by a lot of people. But let a non-black fighter fight like Bradley then a lot of people people would talk about how exciting he is.
Yup Hop makes some good points and isn't afraid of speaking his mind no matter how controversial the point. But he does sometimes say things for attention and this isn't a point you can really back up.
I wouldn't mind but it's fairly dis-respectful to Leonard whom is himself a very humble respectful guy to other boxers.
Ray was way more entertaining, and would be way more entertaining today, than you Nard. Even though you are great at your style. That's the unfortunate truth. Jealousy won't change that.
Hagler/Leonard is the most boring "super fight" I've ever seen.
No it wasn't. It had the "Hagler can catch Ray at any moment" feel to it, and that's even after watching it a few times.
Also had the, "can Ray sustain these flurries and keep Hagler off him?" feel to it.
I'd doubt it.
Leonard was a fighter.
agree. he had a great chin and heart. i think mayweather's got the heart, but he doesn't ahve the chin that leonard had, and had to show against big punchers. leonard also had a big punch, and all of his championship victories at WW were via knockout.
there's no way he'd be booed today. floyd mayweather might get a few boos from the fans of the other guy during his fights, but he's the best paid athlete on the planet. it's clear that people like to watch guys who can box.
hell, muhammad ali was the king of clinching when his legs slowed down, and in his prime he spend much of the fight circling and jabbing.
i've always felt that the true superstars enjoy massive celebrity because of things they do outside of the ring, in addition to their boxing.
Hagler/Leonard is the most boring "super fight" I've ever seen.
they were both at the very end of the line. hagler had started to show his age, and leonard had been out of the ring for several years.
in their primes they were exciting fighters, even if they both had a tendency to box.
I'm assuming these are the same comments I read before, and this is completely wrong. Sugar Ray Leonard was not the least bit boring, and would not be considered so now.
I really doubt it, Ray alway throw. He wasn't just a Jab and right hand guy, but then again the generation of fans that we have now doesn't leave a lot to desire.
If he fought like he did against Duran in their rematch and Hagler...YEAH!
But I totally get what B-Hop is saying and I agree with him for the most part and more fighters should speak up on it, defend your style, don't try to change it and be like the rest because HBO and Lampley wants you to Brawl More
I agree with this..
It's not just black fighters, it's slick fighters or defensive.
Some have a shell defence like Abraham, who people say are boring.
Wlad is boring, because he is defensive and rarely gets hit flush.
The general fans love a tear up, and that is how it is and always will be.
just stating what he said.
Hagler/Leonard is the most boring "super fight" I've ever seen.
Thinking about that whole ordeal playing out in the internet age always makes me laugh. It would be worth the boring super fight imo watching people totally lose it
