Just found this on Boxrec. It's been added to the Broner-Maidana card on December 14th. I'm a big fan of Ortiz's, but what did he do to deserve a title shot at 154?
Ortiz quit vs maidana, got outboxed by peterson, smoked by floyd, and then beat up by lopez, went live and death with berto,,,,,
he looks good vs C-level competition like campbell, but everytime he has stepped up he has failed,,,
I dont think its out of the realm of reason to say he gets beat by molina,,
TBH IMO ortiz is entertaining and can draw some money, but the dude is not an elite fighter or even close to it,,,, Molina is not that great either, but he has done more than ortiz,,,
Molina got robbed twice in the chavez jr fights
got robbed vs lara
should have beaten kirkland
beat spinks
beat ishe
hanging with lara and should have beaten him is way better than anything ortiz has done,,,
ortiz would get schooled by lara,,
ortiz loses a UD to molina,,, mark it down
There's a lot of this about the Kirkland fight but easy to forget there was a reason his corner entered the ring after the bell Molina was getting his KD counted , Kirkland was landing pretty good late and who knows what would have happened so that's more of an incomplete
:nono: Ortiz is very underrated round these parts. He beats Molina and then gets the Floyd rematch he deserves.

They wanna make Canelo-Ortiz, seems pretty obvious
That fight already would have happened if not for Josesito, makes sense they'd try again. How do you rebuild a junior middleweight who should be a middleweight, fights welterweights, and just lost to one? By gifting him another belt against another welterweight, of course!
Hopefully if Molina does deserve the win, they don't screw him.
i think ortiz can actually win this fight.............i don't see how people find this so unbelievable.
molina doesn't put on pressure & his slow pace would favor someone like a ortiz (who's explosive) you gotta put the pressure on ortiz.........but we'll see.
Plus Molina hasn't the power to do much to victor. Ortiz wins fights canelo next for 154 tirle

Box him on the outside a little, smother his power, work inside and wrap him up when he gets in range. That's Molina's game and its exactly what he's going to do in this fight.

I just think that molina is like a miguel vasquez type and is a tricky out for anyone,,
plus ortiz has been off a longtime and will have some ring rust, and ortiz is good vs guys that come forward like berto, but ortiz has always failed to make adjustments during the fight,, the peterson fight is a great example of how ortiz doesnt make adjustments,,,
I think molina weathers the early storm and frustrates ortiz, and pulls out an ugly victory
Good post but i dont think ortiz coming off the super long layoff will be able to shake the rusty to fight the tricky and ugly molina...
Am interested to see this fight, but would have rather them just go straight to a ortiz-canelo fight, or even ortiz-berto 2............
That is a tough task, but Ortiz probably thinks he can do it (although listening to what a fighter thinks they can do is usually very optimistic) and he might want to test the jaw before getting in with someone that can crack a bit.
Beside if Ortiz loses ugly which is how he will lose they can easily play that off and go to a Berto rematch and have that be a crossroad/loser leaves town sort of match. Then he can go to Canelo from there if he wins.
It is actually a pretty good plan for GBP if they are thinking along those lines, the only issue is who Canelo fights next should Ortiz lose but they have to have someone in mind because Ortiz even if they want him to can't be viewed as any sort of sure thing in a Molina fight.
They trying to set Molina up and get the belt in the hands of somebody that they can sell to the public.
Too bad they picked the wrong guy.

Molina isn't a masterful boxer.... Ortiz has a chance. I think they're trying to set up Ortiz-Canelo next year. This is a winnable fight for Ortiz but Molina is a tricky style.
True he isnt like a floyd or hopkins type boxer, but he is like a miguel vasquez and we will make it an ugly fight, and i think he beats ortiz??
Ortiz does have the stuff to beat Molina but it will be tricky with him not being sharp. I am sure Molina doesn't give a rats ass about Ortiz being deserving or not because this fight will be his biggest payday against a bigish name that he has a good shot of winning. I am sure even he knows that Smith fight was booty so to get an opportunity like this this soon without having to sit around is great for him.
It really work well for both guys, it gives Ortiz a meaningful fight that if he wins will put him right back in the mix and the guy is not a big hitter to test his rebuilt jaw with, for Molina it is as I said before plus maybe he can look a bit better against Ortiz and make himself a bit more marketable.
