Joe Calzaghe Joe Calzaghe could be making a return to boxing - as a trainer. That is according to the boxer's father and trainer Vince, who is ready to step aside for his son's career. Vince, who is ready to step Cleverly, 26, wants a rematch with Sergey Kovalev who took his WBO light-heavyweight title in August.

Calzaghe was a great fighter,,,
huge will to win,, very busy workrate, adaptabilty, and he always dared to be great in his big fights,,
Joe gets alot of flack for some of his easy fights, but when push came to shove, Joe always rised to the occasion,,
him training cleverly will be about the same as lennox training david price,,,
Enzo and Joe Calzaghe plan to tie fly swatters to Cleverly's hands and lock him in a room with a hornet's nest every day. At the end of twelve weeks, he'll be able to throw 200 punches a round.
Cleverly will be fine. They're looking at this all wrong. He would be fine against the Clouds of the division. Kovalev was the single absolute worst matchup for him and they can fight 100 times and it will be the same result. IMO Cleverly beats most LHW's besides Kovalev, Adonis and Hopkins. He's a top 10 LHW IMO.
How do you know Kovalev has an elite chin? He's never been hit hard as a pro.
Calzaghe, btw, KO'd 69% of his opponents in a career which included 24 world title fights. If he could teach Cleverley how to "slap" like that, Nathan would test Kovalev's chin himself in a rematch.
MASSIVE PUNCHER!
The words "rematch with Kovalev" should never be spoken or written. I have seen a short clip called Bambi vs Godzilla and I don't need to see a rematch of that anymore than this. This is a case of physics. I don't care anymore to see what happens to cars when they are hit by Mac Trucks. I already know.
Joe would have Ud'd him... tested his chin??? as in hurt him with slaps???
haha Joe would have outclassed him but no way he's testing any elite chin

While Kovalev's best win is Cleverly, you can't really compare him to Calzaghe....
I don't see any evidence that Calzaghe is even able to train people, his dad maybe.
Wasn't Lennox Lewis helping to 'train' David Price before he got knocked out the 2nd time? Floyd Mayweather could train Nathan Cleverly but he's not going to be able to fight like Floyd. The basic fact of the Kovalev fight was Cleverly fought a stupid fight, he stood there to be hit. Movement, movement, movement! you're in with a big puncher you don't just stand in front of him. He doesn't need Joe Calzaghe to tell him that. Cleverly's got a good chin, isnt a bad boxer, if just smartens up he will be 25% better already.
White's trainers had the same game plan; boxing and movement, that was supposed to be what Clev was going to do too. I ain't quite sure if these fighters lacked the skill to carry out the plan or if Kovalevs style makes it difficult.
He is deceptively mobile and rangy for a big guy, and his punches seem to come from everywhere without him loading up like a traditional big -hitter. Could be that people always seem to be standing in front of him 'cos he positions himself so that they are.

Kovalev vs Calzaghe would have been a classic bully beatdown, imo. Kovalev has never fought anybody who moved as well or threw as many punches as Calzaghe. Joe would have tested his chin for sure.

On what evidence?
If Kovalev would've put Calzaghe down he would've just adapted as he did vs anyone who put him down.

Calzaghes will ,work rate and chin got him to where he got to
His technique and defense was poor he was just athletically gifted... heck the guy slapped and blocked punches with his face half the time
Now if he said Bernard Hopkins was training him I might raise an eyebrow
I think B-Hop would make an amazing trainer!

Kovalev would have murked a prime Calzaghe so I don't think he will be able to help Cleverly all that much.

joe can make clev best
Joe calzaghe was simply a legend so i think he would make great trainer .clev needs to get confidence back have couple of fights then rematch kolavev .with guidance of joe and not to be foolish and take too many power shots and box kolavev he would win no doubt about it
