I liked Shane in both fights before their cancellation. I was interested to see how Judah would fair against Mosley though.
I was very excited for that fight at the time.
Mosley would have beat him up, that said Judah would have been competitive early I think.
Berto just would have got outright destroyed.
He was also scheduled to fight Clottey, he would have won all three.
Did that fight get signed in the end?
I remember strong rumours about the fight being done for Boxing day of 2009 correct? Then it got changed to Berto for January.
I remember an interview back then when Shane was asked a question like "We know Clottey is signed now isn't it?" and he answered quite uncharacteristically aggressively that it wasn't signed.
Didn't know this. These would've been great wins to add to his legacy. If you look at his WW resume, it's pretty mediocre. Other than the disputed win over Oscar and the upset win over Margarito, he lost all of his big fights at WW.
Never understood why it was disputed tbh, I thought Shane won 9 rounds to 3 pretty clearly.

I though Mosley would have KO'ed Berto in the later but know I would have to earlier... Judah would have been a great fight, which I think would have been a war.
I always felt Mosley-Berto would have been an interesting fight. The outcome would have either been Mosley by early KO, or close, debatable decision for either fighter after Berto gets hurt/dropped early. He's pretty good at surviving, and he never gives up, as we saw against Ortiz, Guerrero and Soto Karass, all fighters he came back and won the later rounds against. Mosley's stamina and old age would have caught up if he didn't get him out of there soon enough, or he would have punched himself out after making Berto dance a few times.
Mosley-Judah is a much easier fight to pick. It would have been competitive early, but Judah will always be Judah, which means he'll stop throwing punches after 5 or 6 rounds and start taking punishment on the back foot. He'd probably get stopped by the 10th round.
You're spot on. They signed after the URango fight ,where Berto got grab happy. I talked to Shane for a while during the Hopkins/Ornelas conference in Philly and he pretty much stated that their entire camp was focused on dealing with Bertos clinch. He showed me some of the things he'd do when berto comes in, because Berto clinches with his chin up and just kinda dives in defenseless.
After seeing how bad Bertos chin is though, Mosley probably would have finished him inside of 5 at that time (he was HOT off the Margarito win). Too much firepower IMO. And Berto is essentially just a worse version of Mosley.
I actually thought Berto would do good in that fight, because Mosley had issues with Myorga mucked up that fight and Berto being more fresh might be able to make that work.
Still thinking about it now I can hear in my head Lampley saying "Larry it is as if Berto wants to be hit by Mosley's right hand" or "Berto misses wildly with an upper cut and eats another stiff right hand from Mosley"
I picked Shane to KO the great Floyd Mayweather Jr.....so you KNOW I picked him to stop those 2 knuckle head ass dudes...I had Zab quitting on the stool and Berto getting brutally KTFO
Judah would have crumbled at 147 as he usually did against the bigger guys.
Berto would have been shell-shocked. Mosley would have been able to get thru that non-existent defense of Berto all night long. That is the difference. If Mosley has the openings, he will take advantage of them.
Despite what people say about Mosley he is a decent boxer he usually runs into trouble against better ones than him, Mosley would be the superior boxer by far in this contest.
There would have been a lot of "Mosley lands another crushing right hand on Berto, how can Berto withstand all these shots" coming from Lampley.
I do think if Berto went ugly grapple mode that would cause problems for Mosley though, any time there was space and distance Mosley would have teed off.
Bang, Bang, Bang!!!

I picked Mosley in both but was alittle unsure with the Berto fight because at the time he looked to be pretty damn good, but now I know Mosley would have brutalized Berto.
