Anyone here actually from South FL?
I'm near Miami and I can tell you the Cubans don't show up like that. I saw Both Gamboa and Rigo fight on ESPN at Nova Southeast University and a 5 year old could count how many people were there. It's like Baseball. They build that brand new , beautiful park thinking the Cubans being in the heart of Little Havana (where Marlins Stadium pretty much sits) would come out in packs, and we have the lowest attendance in Baseball

Contrary to what people may think (and I'm half Cuban myself), they don't support their fighters like the Puerto Ricans do and even for someone with the popularity Gamboa had a few years ago, they still didn't give a sh*t.
a pragmatic cuban on boxingscene?
i just lost a bet :lol1:
I don't believe sellout crowds are the norm in boxing anyway. Apart from bigger fights, or small cards held in small venues, the crowds aren't especially remarkable. That's my impression, at least. As for the whole "Cubans don't turn out to see their fighters, therefore no promotional efforts in Miami" BS, I'll offer this thought: Orlando, and its surrounding areas, is probably home to more Puerto Ricans than anywhere else in the world, besides NYC and the island itself, of course. Yet, how often do you hear of a Puerto Rican star fighting in that town? Miguel Cotto fought there once, that I now of, and it wasn't even a big fight. Cotto even has a residence in Orlando! Why isn't anyone asking why no one's promoting big fights in Orlando? Let me guess. There's no market for them. lol
I actually shot video of the events leading up to the fight that week, as well as footage during and after the event at Amway.... it was a great turnout! A lot of local and up-and-coming prospect Puerto Rican fighters featured on the undercard... it was a great atmosphere. Not to mention the local shows that are held at the Kissimmee Civic Center and the Shrine in Tampa by All-Star Boxing, packed with Puerto Rican and Dominican fight fans. Even local MMA fighters and MMA fans will attend the boxing shows. I mean, there's still a ton of work that can be done and improvements that can be made, but that's where top promoters can invest just a tad more and they'd reap the rewards.
They could do it, they could promote Rigo in the Cuban community, but Blob Arum doesn't want to! Simple as that.
bob arum doesn't want to make money?
he's got some sort of vendetta against rigondeaux, and his style, size, lack of marketability have nothing to do with it?
do you guys think when you type stuff?
If there's a good card in Miami, PM me or damit, we'll probably be there. There's always room for another true fight fan in our little clique. Cuauhtémoc1520 was supposed to meet up with us last time, but he was unable to make it.
It was a great time, D. The promotion was for shit, but the venue held a very reasonable turnout. As we discussed that night, there's no doubt a well-promoted card featuring Rigo and some decent supporting players would sell out a place like the Amercican Airlines Arena. No problem. If a barely promoted Barthelemy fight did that kind of turnout, Rigo and perhaps Gamboa or Lara would do three times those numbers.
Definitely, I'll contact you guys, I appreciate it! I'm out here in central FL, so I catch a lot of the fights in Kissimmee and Tampa... I've actually been able to shoot behind-the-scenes footage for a couple of the events that have been held here. Let's hope we get Rigo or Lara out here soon!
That is the region that he can have the more success selling tickets because of the cuban market.
But in reality how much will the tickets will be? He is not a must see TV for most.
Im from Miami and i dont think he would. Maybe just maybe a tiny venue like the casino in Hialeah. But cubans in Miami are more into baseball than anything. Miami isnt exactly a fight town.
I think they should try, his talent and status deserve that much....rigo will never have big support outside of his people coz of his style but he shouldnt be punished for it given hes excellent at his sport...

Cubans sell well in Miami is the point you are missing. lol.

Puerto Ricans in New York are more hardcore fans of boxing!! lol
The poor guy is fighting on UniMas for god's sake lol. The only people that support him are his 31 fans down in Miami and the 7 fans on this forum. 31+7=38. Not enough to even fill up the first two rows.
Daylyt took over the NSB show. I understand your anger.

I think he can, his team needs to get it together and put him in Miami and at least try make the tickets affordable, just to pack the house. F##k it turn it into a club afterwards like GBP use to do in LA after their fights.
We sure did. What a shame that a foul rumor has taken a trend. This is easily exposed online, I don't get it. If you look up fight highlights on Youtube involving a Cuban (or any) fighter in Miami you will clearly see butts in chairs - not sell out crowds - but plenty attendance.

Just call me Lazarus. Or should I say, Lazarito? Lol
We were all stumped, bro. "Mike Tyson Promotions" is a Mickey Mouse operation. I'm still at a loss as to how they handled that event. Sincerely, if they got that kind of turnout with the botched promotional job they put forth, Rigo could easily be expected to sell out a decent-sized arena in Miami. With the right promotion, of course. That "Cubans don't sell in Miami" crap is sheer nonsense. We've seen it for ourselves.
