After Cotto beat Shane and Floyd beat wack ass Hatton to end 2007, I would have liked Cotto's chances. Before that not so much.
This is what Cotto wanted and the public wanted, it was meant to happen in the following summer, but Floyd went on vacation:wave: and Cotto took on another fighter that Floyd avoided Margarito.
Cotto was sharper back then also, quicker with his combos, willing to take more of a risk and better reflexes in my opinion.
He gained experience and improved tactically as he got older but was not the physical force he was in his younger days.
Why are you haters so thick headed !!!?? At no point was Cotto a match for Floyd, which is why Arum never match them at 140.
Arum tried his best to put every fighter he could between floyd and Cotto.
He even offered Floyd a ****ty deal of 8 mil to fight Margarito , 4 and 5 mil for Hatton and Cotto fights.
Arum new Floyd would not Fight Hatton for such little money nor would he fight Cotto for little money and still stay under contract with that crook.
As a fighter Cotto got as good as he was going to get at 140 and 147, which the reason he started going down hill, and his wars with Zab and other fighters at 140 and 147 proved that.
Floyd hasn't beat the dog sh-t out of anyone since Gatti. A club fighter
Go troll somewhere else
Shut your ***** a$$ up!! Cotto never beats floyd and in 2008 young floyd would have ****ed Cotto up !
The Ricky Hatton fight would suggest otherwise.
Cotto 2008 beats that Floyd by 4/5 rounds, and probably drops him.The Hatton fight tells you nothing. Floyd knocked him out. Floyd would've beat Cotto's ass. Their fight is my evidence. The harder you go at Floyd, the harder he fights.
Floyd would've been even more blazing back then also!

Cotto's my favorite fighter but I am also a Floyd fan, and Floyd didn't retire to avoid Cotto but it certainly increased the odds of that fight no happening. TR/GBP issue was a big stepping stone but Floyd knew who he wouldn't have to fight in his retirement. That being said I've never picked against Floyd and I wouldn't here either. I called the Floyd/Cotto fight perfectly I knew it would be Floyds toughest fight and Cotto would give him hell because HE is how you beat Mayweather.
Cotto is the only guy I ever thought could beat Mayweather (that isn't a MW) but I would never favor him to beat Mayweather. I think his best shot was back in 2008 though not even because of Cotto's mental state (he was better than ever after the Marg win) but because he could take a much better punch and had better stamina.

In 2006? Cotto had barely moved to WW. Cotto-Mayweather should have happened in 2008 after Hatton and Mosley.
Cotto was a beast back in 2008, very offensive, had that belief and I think Miguel would have taken the fight.
Very fast, great combination, good head movement, and those body shots.
This was one of the reasons why Floyd retired (vacation)
I think Mayweather would always be a clear winner over Cotto at any weight and on any day of their lives. Cotto is a good fighter but Mayweather is a great fighter and I don't think they are in the same class. In their fight Cotto had every advantage. The fight was at Cotto's weight and Cotto is years younger. Cotto had been more active. Cotto fought one of his best fights and Mayweather was off form a bit. Still I did not think the fight was at all close. Cotto had a few good rounds but I had Floyd winning by many points.
Floyd still has his legs, he's lost a bit, but he still has his legs lol. Cotto's fall off has been much worse than Floyd's fall off. If anything, Floyd has gotten better since then. Seems as though he's gotten smarter
May has maintained his performance level, whilst Cotto's has noticeably declined. I'm not so sure he's gotten smarter. I've noticed he's been getting better, even stamina wise since the Cotto fight, which is highly unusual for an aging fighter.
