Is Vrigil Hunter a Fraud?

So so trainer that's credit for training one great fighter. Khans looked worst under him IMO despite his ko lost to Danny under roach. He was sharp till he got put out.

man he sucks, he has done an especially bad job with khan, khan has gotten much worse. And angulo and berto havent gotten any better

Hunter can train fighters, but he not a great trainer nor is he some kind of fix it trainer as he is claiming to be. That is why I call him a fraud. Dude got lucky Ward and his dad walked into his gym one day, if not hardly anyone would know his name. And the like of Khan, Berto and Angulo would not have been in his camp. No different what Enzo Calzaghe done with Joe, accept Enzo was taught Joe everything. Hunter has failed to deliver on his promises to Khan, Angulo and Berto, to make them better fighters and eliminate their defensive flaws. They have in fact gotten worse. He claims to be some great trainer, I say he is not, he is an average trainer who happen to have a top fighter in his stable. His attitude is all wrong, he seems to think he is the star and he never at fault for anything. The guy is a fraud. you get that cuaht is a pro trainer, correct? when he talks you ought to listen.

Ward's natural talent. He was not Ward's first trainer also, Ward's father taught him didn't he? ward's got great reflexes and a great chin, and good speed. he doesn't have freakish speed or power that you associate with an elite talent, like roy jones or tommy hearns. he's a much better boxer and technician than talent, and boxing and technical ability is all learned / taught. ward's been training under hunter exclusively since he was a boy. nobody else taught him how to fight. under hunter, he has not lost a fight since he was 12 years old.

what fighters have roach and steward changed? if you notice with roach fighters, they like to fight in spurts and use their legs for defense and attempt to steal rounds. but at the end fo the day skill wise all these fighters are the same when push comes to shove. Steward improved Lennox Lewis hugely

I think the guy is a fraud, overrated and is very lucky to have Andre Ward as a fighter. Ward is a talented boxer, Hunter trains him but Ward would have reached his success without Hunter but Hunter would not have been trainer of the year without Ward. Virgil Hunter won trainer of the year in 2011 of the back of Ward Super 6 success. He became much sought after this taken on fighters such as Berto, Khan and Angulo, pretending he is some kind of defensive guru that make them into great fighters. If anything all 3 men have gone backwards under Hunter, through their style and conditioning. I don't like Hunter's attitude as well, he thinks he is the star, taken none of the blame for his boxer's poor performance and believes his own hype. I remember seeing a Khan fight and Hunter would not even have the decency to get into the ring to talk his fighter in between rounds. I hope Ward wises up and leaves Hunter so he can improve as a fighter. And Khan, Berto and Angulo, get out while you still can, or you all could be out of the game for good under Hunter's guidance. Well look at the first fight he had with Khan. Khan looked like a completely different fighter against Molina. All his manuerisms, his defense, counterpunching. He picked his shots, instead of throwing those little flurries, and with his speed that fight looked like Floyd when he fought Gatti. Now in his last fight, he went back to his old style. But against Molina, that told me he can take a fighter and completely change them. I wanna see more from Virgil. He wont be able to change a bum like Perro. Or Berto. But if Floyd fights Khan, I think Khan will be sharp as hell and be a surprising problem. I just wish Khan beat some name WW's first.

He's been training Ward since he was 9 years old. You don't teach what he's taught Ward and be some fraud. Man, the internet is a wonderful place, Hunter has apprenticed under some of the best old school trainers in Oakland. He's an excellent trainer in his boxing fundamentals and also his psychological effects he has on his fighters. Yes Ward is a great talent but he's been a great asset to him. I don't think he is a complete fraud but I do think he is heavily overrated.

he cant be that bad of a trainer. the only other guy he has been with for some time besides ward, brandon gonzales, probably should have just beat tommy oosthsuzien. u cant judge a trainer based soley on severely flawed fighters that really cant be fixed too much.

He is not a bad trainer he just needs to be more selective with the fighters he takes on. In my opinion he'd work better with fighters like Garcia and Alexander, easier to mold them into what he wants to do.

He is a product of a great fighter in Ward. He needs to bring another fighter to a championship level or he is more hype than great.
