I'm not saying better fighter/career but who is better technically? We all know how great Mayweather is but damn Rigondeaux footwork and defense is insane
Freddie Roach said he was never able to hit Rigondeaux in 6 months of mitt training and that he is probably the most talented fighter he's ever seen.
Boxing technician? Floyd..
I don't know if any great in the pocket skills have been shown, although Rigo on the backfoot is simply AMAZING, also I LOVE how he gives what he takes, almost INSTANTLY.
I love that, too. It concerned me versus Donaire, though. Rigo stood in that samurai stance of his and exchanged with Nonito in the early rounds of their fight. "El Chacal" doesn't like getting hit.
This is actually a loaded question.
Academically, Rigondeaux is the better boxer. He adheres to convention in terms of what it means to be a pure boxer. His movements, the way he slips punches, his stance, etc. All exceptional examples of mastery of boxing in the traditional sense. Most any trainer would tell you to emulate Rigondeaux. Very few trainers would tell you to emulate or pattern yourself after Floyd.
Floyd, on the other hand, adheres to no rules. He is basically Neo in the Matrix after he realizes he's "the one." He doesn't need to dodge bullets (i.e., be a pure boxer) because he's gone beyond the confines of what it means to be a boxer. 99.99% of people on the planet would not be able to do what he does, even if trained from the same age into adulthood with the same style. That's why all these young fighters who try to emulate him wind up getting beaten so badly eventually. So in that regard, Floyd is the better boxer. But not the better technician.
I realize there are some sophomoric references in my post, but it helps get the point across.
A rare post where I enjoyed both substance and style. Green K.
Considering Rigo's pedigree and his dominance of Donaire, he might be the heir apparent, but there are at least 2 other guys with much deeper resumes that are still currently active that may have a good case for second best technician: B-Hop and Dinamita.
So no.
Let me go vote now.

it's hard to say because floyd shows this level of fluidity and skill against top opposition. Rigondeaux has only shown us against one 1 dimensional somewhat overrated p4p'er in Donaire. However I'd still say they're very close and possibly even give Donaire the edge in balance/footwork.
Overrated? Donaire was a top 5 p4p guy at the time of the fight. He's not overrated just cause he lost to Rigondeaux...
Easily the best two. I favor floyd overall but they're my favorite two, to watch. I appreciate guys who take your offence away. Put either one in with a guy that throws 1000 punches a fight. And watch how their output drops by 60%. Thats genius to me. You pay for every mistake. That's called boxing.
I think Rigondeaux is a better pure technician. He has far better footwork and sharper technical skills than Floyd. With that being said, I think Floyd is without a doubt the better complete boxer.
Love both fighters style and skills but Mayweather is more versitile, he can fight: inside, from the outside Mayweather can beat his opponents ANYWAY HE WANTS!
I give Rigondeaux the edge are far as counter punching and timing, maybe even hand speed but overall I think Mayweather is more versatile
regardless it will take more then a "Punchers Chance" to beat either of these highly skilled fighters
Floyd has never faced a guy like Rios. Power in both hands, not a small puny btch, IRON chin (sure as hell won't be bothered by anything floyd throws his way), undeniable fortitude, and now he has Alex Ariza behind him to aide in being able to throw countless punches at Floyd for 12 rounds while it feels like flies are bumping against his face. He would rise to the occasion in spectacular fashion. Floyd would get stopped and Brandon would become the cash cow of boxing.
Go away alt.
How would you see a fight with Rios and Floyd playing out? :boxing:

Don't completely agree but nice insight.
Rigo can't be hit by his trainer. I've seen Floyd, on the otherhand, get visibly upset with Roger when he accidentally skipped a step in their sequence because Floyd couldn't anticipate the punches coming and he had to stop and regroup.
Rigondeaux is better technically by a clear mile and he isn't a hot head towards his trainer...or other innocent people...but to be fair that's probably bc he doesn't take synthetic testosterone.
i like rigo but i worry bout his chin he's taken some shots that have had him in trouble.
rigo reminds me of pernell without the combos more than he reminds me of floyd.
Floyd. Not even close.
Did donaire put rigo on his anus. Case closed. Rigo is the next closest thing and yes Mosley caught floyd but not the boxing Floyd, he caught the sit in the pocket and counter you Floyd. Rigo has got clipped more times in his ten fights than Floyd has in his whole career.
I do give rigo an advantage in power body shots but besides that lets see him beat Gary Russell jr and the guys above his weight class and that just four pounds. Donaire was and is an Arum hype job. Fighter of the year for 2012 was a joke the comp he fought was laughable. I believe rio is the real deal but HBO want let him maximize his earnings and neither will arum. I do feel rigo could use his jab more but it may take away from his southpaw stance if he's too aggressive.
