I thought Canelo made a real good showing of himself. It probably was a case of too much too soon for a dude only 23 years old. I keep wondering in 5 years when Mayweather is out the door will Canelo continue to get better or has he peaked too early. I think the future looks bright for him... Also what would you guys think of a Canelo/JCC jr match up?
Boxing fans put too much in to being undefeated. Undefeated fighters rarely give classic matches that you want to watch again and again. Alvarez will bounce back its not like he was hurt or took a horrendous beating in that fight like Ricky did when he decided to open up and go for broke Alvarez did the opposite and protected him self in the late rounds by standing off Mayweather and due to this he was just out thought, out hustled and out boxed by the greatest in the game in and around that weight. at 23 I see him coming back stronger than ever with the right training and the right encouragement from his cornermen.
Alvarez seems to rely on a personal confidence that borders on being arrogant. Gomez (GBP matchmaker) wasn't even going to put him in with Trout but Alvarez was able to convince them that he could beat Trout and gave reasons why.
The reason, in my eyes, that this Mayweather loss may be a major setback is BECAUSE HE WASN'T BEAT UP. Alvarez prides himself as a boxer and could come up with no answer for another boxer that he feels wasn't even hurting him. Alvarez didn't just lose...at the press conference, he looked loss.
The eventual move to 160 won't do him any favors as he's soon to meet fighters that (a) come in heavier than him, (b) can take any punishment he can dish out to get their shots off, and/ or (c) can box almost eveningly with him AND hurt him when their shots get through.
Let's face it, his reign at 154 was a facade. A commercial for a product that is good at what it does but can't do everything the commercial advertises.
The boy isn't a big puncher at 154. Not even close. At most, he's a good puncher. Fights against Baldomir, M. Hatton, Ryan Rhodes, Cintron, Mosley, Lopez, Trout NOR Mayweather prepare you for the fighters at middleweight that can box and bang the WHOLE fight.
If he's able to stay at 154, he can keep feasting but the opponents that he chooses as he goes back up that mountain will be HEAVILY scrutinized. To the point where it may be impossible for him to ever look like the "goods" again.

I see him losing again and really soon, maybe his next fight....if sergio comes back and looks good in his tuneup, i see sergio, even at 38, outclassing canelo, and at 154.....canelo may move up to make a serious point, by going to 160 and going after kid chocolate and marvilla there on his way to ggg, and he is doomed no matter what.....and this is because of floyd, just like with hatton...even though hatton won his next 2 fights, he looked bad in them and was never the same, confidence wise and that sjowed with pacquiao......once a fighter is defeated after so much hype and lust surrounding them, their mentality shifts an they always question themselves and thay is like russian rouletye in boxing...
canelo can bounce back because anything is possible but he will lose imo and go on to be like a cotto type of fighter if he doesnt retire...that aura of invincibility is no longer there....even with the draw, canelo had that mindset that he couldnt be beaten and for a young fighter, that is everything...
it is unfortunately the way it is....good luck to him...
Lol, Floyd made him look like a D class fighter and you think that helps Canelo? Floyd just destroyed the whole hype around him being undefeated.
I agree. Canelo performed the same way he did in all his other fights. The problem is he looked good in the other fights but looked less than ordinary against Mayweather. Unless he come back and beat someone like Chavez Jr, he'll be just another Mayweather "victim."

I don't think he will go on to "great" things. He'll be a good boxer with some ups and downs. I personally think he lost to Trout as well. I can't see him being a longtime title holder.
Ofcourse he will get better, I'm sure. . . No one ever said Marquez faced Mayweather too soon, or Mosely or Cotto . . . U take the fight with Mayweather when u can cus it might not come around often. Canelo will go onto great things though I'm sure of it.
