Of course he couldn't fight inside because he was being held anytime he tried.
And that's precisely one of the things I liked about Garcia's performance. He fought smart. Danny created distance and used effective combinations. Lucas couldn't box with him. Every time Matthysse came in to brawl, Garcia tied him up. Not a good idea to trade with a bomber.
The final thirty seconds of the fight were blistering, and Danny got caught up in the frenzy. If you watch that finale, you see Garcia quit trading first and clinch just as the final bell sounded. Great ending to a terrific fight.
People say that Danny kept hitting low but Matthysse was constantly pulling his head down. When you throw a body shot and get yanked down at the same time it's going to stray low.
There was exactly one time when I saw that happen. Please tell me where I can find even one more instance of the same thing happening. Garcia low blowed Matthysse many times without being pulled down. The last time was in the twelfth, when Danny hit Lucas dead on the nuts and Weeks finally deducted a point.
It did showcase two elite level fighters fighting their best....but overall there was no drama on the card whatsoever...
When grinding through the tough to watch with your casual boxing friends and family under card, I took the very opportunity just before Garcia/Matthesse to say "I guarantee there will be a knockout in this fight" as a way to let them know "the real top guys" are fighting next...they did enjoy the fight...but it lacked the drama, trading knockdowns and a stoppage that I expected

let down? hell no, it was better than i expected.
both fighters showed more skill than i thought they were capable of and they gave us 12 good rounds of evenly matched boxing.
only ppl let down are die hard matthysse fans simply because he lost and fake boxing fans who are only interested in sheer violence with no appreciation for the art of pugilism.
Another top post..
Matthysse imo just can't fight inside, and Danny can, and that was the biggest difference with me when I mentioned their style

The intensity and tension was so thick you could feel it the whole fight. It was boxing's equivalent of watching a guy disarm a bomb.
The only people let down were LM fans who spent three months on BoxingScene telling us how unbeatable and God like LM was. "When Lucas fights how does it make you feel?". Vomit inducing hype. These people wpuldnt listen to reason.
Lmao. Hilarious!
People now are saying that Lucas can be outboxed and that Matthysse is a brawler and Garcia is a boxer. I don't think is that simple. Lucas does great against boxers and to me, he is not easy to outbox. Danny is not just a boxer, he probably is the hardest counter puncher out there. He is smart, he bangs and then clinch. I don't think people like brawlers or boxers, it doesn't work that way. It's more subjective. I follow fighters with different styles. Maybe if it wasn't for Angel Garcia more people were rooting for Danny.
The fight was brutal. Two prime heavy handed champions throwing bombs for twelve round. What else you want?
I totally agree bro..This is a very good post..

I was expecting a War, so i was disappointed in that, but Garcia was smart and effective and Boxed his way to victory. He impressed me, though i had underestimated him, and my standards werent very high for him. Overall, i was happy with it as a Boxing match, but disappointed in not getting a War.
This basically sums it up for me.
Still an entertaining fight and Garcia impressed me a lot. Just wasn't the slugfest I expected.
Like someone else said, I also recommended this fight to so many casual fans who all seemed disappointed at the end. That was my fault for over-hyping I guess but I was, like most people, convinced that this will be a war ending in a brutal KO.

No, the fight wasn't a let down. Whether the eye swelled up or not, Danny had solved Matthysse by round 4. Danny didn't thumb Matthysse, he didn't butt him, he punched him. It is only a let down to Matthysse's fans.
Full credit to Danny for doing the damage, but it was something of a freak injury and it changed the direction of the fight. Again, I take nothing away from Danny, he earned that victory fair and square. I would like to see a rematch, though.
The only let down was that the Lucas hardcore fans didn't get the KO that they predicted and trolled for months.
Lucas got handled by Garcia with the obvious game plan that they stuck to
i dont think it was a let down just because both guys dont get knocked out from first sign of a big punch dont mean it was not a good fight. they threw some vicious punches that in most of their fights would of ended it
