All Golovkin has is his untested power. He's only beaten these faded contenders coming off of losses and he is 31 years old. Other power punchers like Maidana, Matthysse, Ortiz, Thurman, Berto, Quillin, and Angulo have all fought a number of former world champions. Golovkin's only experience with a world champ was Kasim Ouma? I understand that BS about other title holders not giving him a shot, but for Fck sakes he can still fight a former world champ. If he's this killer that people are making him out to be then why doesn't he fight a former world champ at 168 or drop down to 154 and fight one there? There's a difference between fighting a former world champ and a faded contender. Former world champs are usually great at exposing flaws and pulling veteran moves that make it uncomfortable for up and comers. I actually put Keith Thurman above Golovkin. At least Thurman has beaten the likes of Quintana and Zaveck. It's an insult that Golovkin is mentioned in the same sentence as Floyd. That guy has done nothing to deserve a fight with Mayweather. He's just hunting down contenders that have been stopped before to make his power seem unbelievable. This Stevens guy he's fighting is a nobody as well and he's not even world class. Step it up Golovkin....
i know about fighters turning down golovkin. the problem that i have is that middlweight is a weak division. if he can't get fights at middlweight why not move up to 168 where the crop of fighters are better in quality. I say make a permanent move to 168 and as your first fight take on someone like bika (who is more then willing to fight ggg) i don't see anything happening for golovkin at middlweight..........his record would be a hell of a lot better if he could manage to get some wins against some decent guys at 168.
Middleweight is NOT weak, that's the thing. It's just that the best fighters aren't fighting each other because of contractual issues. 168 is weaker right now. Bika is with Haymon, he ain't getting in the ring with GGG when he can fight Ward or Chavez if he moves up. At least GGG has a belt at 160, if he moves up what will he bring to the table to attract opponents?
As a boxing fan, I would like to see this fight at 154. Wouldn't you?
ps. I don't want this fight 'cos I 'want to see Floyd knocked out' or some such rubbish, but because I see it as an exciting and intriguing match-up between a skilled heavy-hitting pressure fighter against one of the greatest defensive fighters and counter-puchers the sport has ever seen.
I'm a fan of both fighters and I'm not interested in this fight because I don't wanna see GGG fight a smaller guy, even if it's an exceptional smaller guy. He's a prime middleweight champion, how much credit would you give him for beating a 37 yr old natural welterweight who's never weighed above 150 on fight night?
You are being dishonest. GGG is not seen as the best MW. Sergio is, despite HBO throwing him under the bus to push GGG.
Nah most people think Martinez lost his last fight, he's officially the lineal champ but no longer considered the best by most boxing fans.
No one is acting like he can't be challenged. Most posters are just asking people to validate their call for GGG v floyd. It would be refreshing if a poster was just honest and said I want to see floyd get KTFO, GGG is the closest to ww who has shown immense power, I think he likely KO's floyd, so I want them to fight.
WHy is that so hard to admit?
It's really that simple.
Yes, I just think GGG would be Floyd's toughest challenge in the near future. If he doesn't fight him though I won't think he is ducking him or anything. I don't particularly want to watch Floyd in drama-free fights against WWs. This isn't to say I'm not interested in seeing a Pacquiao fight or a Thurman fight down the line, but otherwise it's likely not going to be all that compelling.
I think it's a a combination of the two, although I'd be more inclined to say that GGG's relatively small fan base as well as his HBO deal are the biggest roadblocks. However, I do think the skills and power that GGG possesses at his size would make Floyd somewhat hesitant. It would be a high risk/low reward (in terms of money) fight for Floyd.
we can agree on high risk/low finacial reward. I can understand not wanting to have to pay to see floyd put on a virtual sparring session sans headgear. I dont know why his skills and power would make floyd hesitant.
If the threat of floyd losing by KO is the only selling point for some than so be it. It's odd to think floyd has reached a point where the only fights some boxing fans want is him in with a much larger fighter with power.
Have we as fans ever placed this limitation on any fighter in history?
Floyd doesn't take risky fights. It would ruin his unbeaten record real fast.
In fairness, before the Canelo fight, I thought he was a minor threat.
Afterward, it was clear he was way too green at 23 years old.
Golovkin would make Mayweather work extremely hard to pull off that win in my opinion.
Macklin was stopped by Martinez late so that's not legit. Maybe if Golovkin had the balls to fight a 168 pounder while he's waiting then ppl would respect him more? You know since he has all that power lol.
After GGG KO's this curtis guy, he should fight Sergio Martinez and take the lineal title
Then JR can come for Glory and add the lineal MW title to his creds :dance: after all GGG can't hurt nobody

You ought to be ashamed to write such stuff as this.
Don't you remember what Lou Dibella said after the Mack fight ???
something like Sergio Martinez ain't getting in there with this monster right now
You evidently don't have an eye for fighters
Hey, I know, Jr can fight this guy GGG for his MW title that can't hurt nobody and walk out da ring with a MW champeenship
HURRAH FOR JR !!!!!!!
HBO has been talking about a Ward-GGG fight, but I clearly see why they are waiting. All parties concerned have an incentive to wait from all that I've heard since it has the potential to be a big fight if both guys can continue to win and build their fan bases. It isn't as if GGG's team or Ward's team haven't talked about it on a few different occasions.
Maybe GGG would KO Floyd, but I can't say that's why I want it per se (the threat of his power certainly comes into it though). I'm simply of the opinion that he poses the biggest challenge to Floyd that is a somewhat realistic possibility given that he just fought a guy who is roughly the same size in terms of weight. It probably won't happen, but I still think it would be an interesting fight. I also understand why Floyd wouldn't take it. It's not as if it would diminish Floyd's previous accomplishments in anyway.
Respectfully, go back to the fight game and the stevenson fight. Lampley downplays GGG v ward, even saying its not a good fight right now. We agree, HBO wants it down the road when its bigger.Thats why they and there corporate partners keep the GGG floyd talk going.
If you think GGG is floyd's toughest challenge and thats why you want the fight cool, that is reasonable.
You understand why floyd won't take the fight? what do you mean? DO you mean because GGG is a threat to beat him? Or do you mean because of floyd's deal with showtime and HBO's deal with GGG?
People not wanting to fight you is an excuse? :pat: Canelo can fight whoever he wants because he's a big draw so he'll get those fights, why are you comparing a guy like that to a guy who's being openly avoided? It's like comparing Oscar to Winky. He offered fights to super middleweight contenders Oosthuizen and Rodriguez but either HBO turned it down or the fighters turned it down. You haven't done your homework on GGG and you dare speak on his resume.
The fighters that you say are avoiding him probably don't even belong in the same ring with him.
With Golovkin's Amatuer resume, size and record in title fights, I don't see any reason why he would not be a serious threat to beat Floyd at 154.
In fact. I don't think Floyd would go anywhere near that fight.
Floyd doesn't take risky fights. It would ruin his unbeaten record real fast.
I think Hopkins was joking and the ESPN article were the K2 CEO said Golovkin wanted Floyd and it was possible was cowardly. Can Floyd start saying he wants to fight Omar Figueroa? It's just depressing that Golovkin behaves like this.
didn't read the article. will have to look it up.
So the chump mayweather could finally step it up and fight Golovkin and prove the TS right. But no no, that's too big a risk, right? He ducked Pac and Margarito, what makes you think he would fight a beast like GGG?
Indeed. Mayweather is a world champion at 154, and this is the weight at which Golovkin has said he is willing to fight him. Golovkin is a world champion at 160 and widely recognised as the best current MW.
I fail to understand why Golovkin simply saying he'd like this fight is so offensive to some. GGG has not even offered a challenge, whereas plenty of fighters throw out far more out outrageous challenges (Stevens, anyone?).
Mayweather's a great fighter, probably the best of the era, but to act as if he's some god who is above being even mentioned by another champion just seems a little bizarre to me.
You are being dishonest. GGG is not seen as the best MW. Sergio is, despite HBO throwing him under the bus to push GGG. If floyd is going to fight at MW it will be for 1 of 2 reasons-lineal title or money. GGG is not the champ nor brings the money.
Its not offensive, but its disingenuous. GGG is a HBO fighter at MW, floyd, when ggg raised the notion of fighting him, was a showtime fighter at ww. We get it, ggg wants the money a floyd fight brings and HBO knows the press will eat up a call out for floyd. It also makes people not focus on a ward ggg fight which is much easier to make, but clearly threatens the push HBO is givng GGG. It also reduces HBO marquee roster by 1.

Calling out an ATG whose best weight is two divisions below you is an act of cowardice.
Did GGG "call out" Mayweather? Meaning did he dog him? No GGG said he would take on anyone from 154-168, and he was respectful while doing so.
Is Hopkins a coward for saying that he would meet Mayweather at 160? No. Of course not.
Liking GGG doesn't mean you can't like and respect Mayweather. I think Mayweather is an ATG. I think GGG has potential to be a HOFer if not better. We need to see GGG take on the best.
I don't see how Mayweather needs to go to middleweight. Why? He was super-featherweight champion. Let him clear out 140-154. Then, in a year, if GGG takes out Stevens, Martinez, Quillin, then let the two meet. (If they can. Mayweather will be way past prime and the weight difference may be too much as well).

Couldn't care less about liking whomever. I'm looking at from the standpoint of fighter A can't even make a 152-lb limit on fight night while fighter B has been campaigning at '60 their entire career.
Hey, if you don't want the fight, fair 'nuff. Ain't happening anyways. But if you think GGG can't box you're very much in the minority...you just stick to your guns tho' There's something almost impressive about such a determined refusal to acknowledge the obvious.
Still waiting............
