In the beginning of the Garcia Vs Matthysse fight the rules stated that there will be no standing 8 count yet the ref gave Matthysee the 8 count. What gives?

Standing 8 counts are all but gone in modern boxing.

Correct, however he got up immediately, but the ref continued to count to 8. Shouldn't the ref had allowed the fight to resume as Matthysse got up? Do you actually watch boxing???ANYTIME you get knocked down and get up the ref will count to 8

He got knocked down man..a standing 8 count is like what they do in the Amateurs where you dont even have to fall and can still get a count if you get hurt

The topic's creator doesn't understand what a standing 8 count is... And, sadly, based upon the expressed "knowledge" of other members of this board, I'm not even disgusted at the fact. According to boxrec, it is the highest a ref can count to after a knockdown. So if there is no standing 8 count, why would the ref continue to count? http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Standing_eight-count

that wasn't a standing 8. that was a mandatory 8. standing 8 is when you don't actually go down.
