What makes you think that Danny couldn't beat Matthysse in a rematch? What could Matthysse do better in a rematch? Forget commenting on the "if his eye didn't swell" thing.
Do you really think that the way Matthysse fought the first 5 rounds that he could do that for 12 or even ko Danny?
I'm going to be honest. I don't think Matthysse can beat Danny. It's a styles thing with me when it comes to these two.
But if you had to give a reason why Matthysse beats Danny in a rematch, I'd like to hear them.
If Danny was deducted a point earlier for holding then who knows what might have happened...
I had the fight very close, the decisive rounds were the three after the eye swelled. Before and after that i gave quite a few rounds to Matthysse. Add to that i thought Garcia was lucky his mouthpiece got knocked out in the 11th because he looked very hurt to me. The time it took to get the guard back in allowed him to regain his composure Imo.
I know a rematch isnt on the cards due to Garcia probably looking for more lucrative fights, but i would love to see the rematch. Two big punchers fought in a close and entertaining fight. Who wouldn't want to.see that again?
Danny did not look hurt to me after the mouthpiece came out.

Plain and simple, a Lucas rematch is a side-step for Danny. He has better options ahead of him.
And if Danny was hurt--I'd be careful how one uses this term because it doesnt mean just eating a hard punch--he did a a great job not showing it.
I think Matthysse lost to Danny because he and his team were overconfident, while Danny knew very well what he had to deal with. Most people underestimated Danny and now most people are overestimating him. All this is not very rational.
I agree they were overconfident. Lucas seemed aware of his left hook (he ducked lots of them in early rounds) but he seemed surprised of combinations and Danny's chin. So, i expect a different game plan in a rematch. Though we still don't know how that injured eye could affect his career.

I agree that it would be tough for Lucas to win a rematch. To win though, he'd have to cut the ring off better and not rely so much on one punch to get Danny out of there (even then, I'd favor Danny in the rematch).
But honestly, at the end of the day, that fight was entertaining as hell and I feel the rematch would be more of the same. And as a boxing fan, that's what I want: entertainment.
He wasn't hurt any more than Matthysse was. If anything, he did more damage to Matthysse than the other way around and it showed with a fractured orbital bone.
Of course he did, i'm just saying why i would love to see a rematch. That's all!
read my prediction of the fight a couple of months ago:
"I wouldn't be surprised at all if Danny get a desicion or KO Lucas. I'm a big fan of Lucas, but let's face it, he is not Maidana. Chino has been in wars with hard punchers but Lucas hasn't yet. To me, this is a 50 / 50 fight. Matthysse is stronger but he is not as accurate puncher as Danny. We still don't know if he can walk through his punches. This is an even fight, a test for both, a great matchup."

Danny is the fair winner of the fight but that doesn't mean he was outclassed, that is some strange idea of yours. Is really hard to fight Danny because of his monster left and though he said he didn't felt Lucas power he was hurt plenty of times during the fight.

The fight may have been scored really close, but it wasn't.
And its really difficult to just plain say "if lucas would have won another round" well, he didn't and by the end of the fight he was being outclassed so this argument is moot

Well the reasons are there, if you rewatch the first six rounds. Even now, knowing that Danny has a great chin, Lucas probably wouldn't look for the KO but to win rounds. The fight was really close, if Lucas would have won one more round, that point deducted to Danny would changed the fight to a draw.

There is absolutely no merit for a rematch. Not only did Danny neutralize Lucas' attacks but, most impressively, he took clean hard punches to the chin. Without that edge in power, there is no drama to a rematch.
