I loved Arturo Gatti fights. Always a fan favorite win/lose/draw he came to fight, but if you put him in the Hall of Fame, all of the above should be in the Hall of Fame as well.
Well said. It's almost as if there ought to be a "fan favorite" section of the HOF.
Arturo doesn't deserve to be there on skill or accomplishment but I think he deserves to be remembered. Everyone of us, who saw him live, especially those incredible comebacks in the 90s, will remember him.
No RJJ was NOT in his prime. He was not @ the END of his prime becuz he wasn't even in his prime
Get it?
How can you say he wasn't still in his prime going into 2004? Just because he lost he wasn't in his prime anymore? That TKO Tarver gave him psychologically damaged him as a fighter after. That's why he lost to Glen Johnson right after. Past his prime Jones Jr. is what Joe Calzaghe fought, and what Bernard Hopkins fought in their second fight.
If he wasn't in his prime still in 2004, what was the year he wasn't in his prime anymore?
Nope. None of them.
Unless you think those guys are in the league with These guys
118 names since 1943...about 2 fighters a year.
At THAT rate, there's no room for those guys. When you have Floyd, Pac, Hopkins, Jones, K-bros, JMM (who isn't 100% for me at least), ETC., that are likely on their way in.
I just don't think the exclusivity of that club allows the Hattons and Tarvers of the world in the Hall. Martinez, Judah, and Cotto aren't done yet; but I think they aren't likely to do anything to change my mind.
So you think Vitali should get in over Cotto?or Tarver??
The K-bros, are dominating the heavyweight division now, and have been for quite some time. Regardless of the strength of the era. I think that that type of dominance deserves to be recognized when remembering this era.
As far as Marquez (Juan) goes, I'd say I'm 95% sure he's getting in. Maybe I should have left that "not being 100% sure" bit out.
klitschkos are two different people. do we put in both calzaghe and ottke because they both had 21 defenses at the same time? klitschkos are actually much worse because they pick and choose which opponents they fight among themselves according to styles. all the pressure fighters to vitali, all the boxers to wlad, and then they split the bums like mormeck, pinata, charr, etc...

I agree that level of sustained dominance should be recognized, but it's Wlad that is dominating the heavyweight division right now and has done over the last seven years, not his brother. Vitali's merely a title holder.

Juan is a lock. Has a career to match if not exceed Barrera and Morales.
Why would you have reservations about Marquez but none about including both Klitschko brothers? Both Juan and his brother are unquestionably better than Vitali.

Well they did just put Gatti in.
I'd say Tarver is the closest if we're judging by when they will be. I'd say the rest will/could follow. I don't see Zab happening though.
True, but he is an exception to the rule. I can't really defend that pick, or the reason why I think he belongs there. It just feels right after seeing all of his fights. Whether or not he won or lost, sometimes greatness is measured with what you leave in the ring, instead of what you leave with.
Nope. None of them.

I agree with most of what you said, apart from the inclusion of both Klitschko brothers. Wladimir? Sure. Vitali? Rafael Marquez was better than him.
Nope. None of them.

Nope. None of them.

Cotto - yes easily
Hatton - could go either way. If he gets in that's fine, if not than that's fine too
Martinez - yes he's had some very good wins & is a very skilled fighter
Judah - No. I was actually going to make a thread about if he should get in or not. The problem is whenever he stepped up & faced a real challenge he lost 90% of the time. He's a very good fighter, but he just doesn't have a very good resume in terms of wins. Even one of his best wins is very debatable in terms of whether he even won the fight or not.
Tarver - Could go either way. He has a pretty good resume. He beat Jones Jr. twice when Jr. was at the end of his prime. Problem is his career ended in a very bad way due to the drug use. That's not a good way to be viewed at the end of your career. It makes people doubt his previous accomplishments, so I don't know if he'll get in.
