Cano vs Theophane was entertaining from what I saw (I missed the first 6 rounds). So I can't say who I thought won that fight.
I thought Molina vs Ishe was boring as hell, but I watched nontheless and thought Molina was the deserving winner, although I did not score that fight.
On to the big boys:
Garcia vs Matthysse
Coming into the Garcia vs Matthysse fight, I dubbed it 50-50 but was leaning towards Lucas. I figured Garcia would come out trying to box and when Lucas caught him, he'd try to brawl and get KO'd. Boy, was I wrong! Danny boxed beautifully!
One thing I noticed is: I think Lucas really fell in love with his power. He abandoned the jab very early on and his shots were very looping. Danny earned my respect with his chin! He got caught with some shots that would've put anyone else to sleep! Props to Danny for proving me wrong. He gained a fan in me last night. My score: 114-112 Garcia
Mayweather vs Canelo
Before the fight, I went out on a limb and picked Canelo via SD. I thought he'd turn up the pace in the middle rounds to the end and the judges would give him the decision. Wrong again lol.
The fight was beautifully tactical. Canelo jabbed very well, but not consistent enough and didn't follow up with anything. Floyd boxed beautifully, giving Canelo a lot of different looks. Damn near every round was fun to watch for me and Canelo didn't seem outclassed imo.
I knew Canelo would try to box Floyd, but I didn't think he'd do it the whole fight. At the end of the day, footspeed was the major difference. Canelo couldn't cut off the ring against Floyd and that cost him badly. My score: 116-112 Mayweather.
What did you guys think??
Nelo tried to use the Trout strategy against Money. It didn't work, at all. I thought the first 6-7 rounds were competitive, but may was landing better shots and was catching most of nelo's punches. I thought both were very inactive for the most part, and it was a relatively boring fight. Nothing new, I suppose. Mayweather is just too good for just about everyone. He needs to handicap himself more to make is competitive (i.e. fight a middleweight).
DG was super impressive. I thought he "won" the fight even though I had it a draw. Matthysse was very unimpressive. I don't know what his strategy was, but not jabbing or throwing combos was his downfall. Fight was very messy and a bit dirty. I though Weeks did a terrible job in not warning DG about the clinching.
Also, Angel Garcia has shown that he's a top-notch trainer (or approaching that status). He really has maximized the skill-set of young swift and developed a brilliant gameplan.
I'm looking forward to DG mixing it up with the top dogs at 147. I think he can make a lot of noise and will be in some exciting fights.
I agree that the first 6-7 rounds were competitive. After that it seemed that Floyd found a groove.
And yeah, Lucas (I think) fell in love with his power. He truly felt that one shot was going to be enough against Garcia and that clearly was not the case. I can't wait to see who Garcia fights next. He gained a new fan in me! :boxing:
while i only scored two rounds for canelo (rounds where mayweather seemed to rest) and had him comfortably outboxed, the fight was slightly more evenly fought than a typical mayweather fight. canelo was tricky and made it difficult for floyd to land his flashy pot shots as consistently as he usually does. offensively, however, canelo was completely neutralised and barely landed a clean punch all night.
Canelo definitely was neutralized. Outside of jabs, I only remember a couple left hooks and a couple straight right hands that landed flush.

Putting Ishe/Molina on that card instead of an up and comer was a huge mistake. Everybody was locked in after that Cano fight and then that fight just brought everyone down.
lol it was a stinker.

Lol I know! Just the last 3 and a half rounds that I saw from the Cano fight was much more entertaining than Ishe and Molina smh.
