So, for anyone interested in some actual truth, instead of relentlessly repeated conventional wisdom with no logical support, check out the current Boxrec rankings for HW's. You'll notice that, even though Vitali is semi or perhaps entirely retired at this point, his victims make up 4 of the top 11 and Wlad's victims make up only 1 of the top 11. Assuming Chisora beats Gerber, as expected, VK's victim's will at that point make up 4 of the top 10 and not a single WK victim will be among them. Boxrec's not perfect, but it's the most scientific and accurate of all the major accepted ranking entities. Of course, this fails to account for VK's more lasting resume advantage over Wlad: decisively beating the two best non K's of the post Lewis era, Sanders and Peter, while WK lost to Sanders and struggled with Peter in his first bout. But it does show that even when VK is nearing or has already reached the end of his boxing career, his wins stack up favorably to Wlad's. I'm sure the haters who are incapable of a reasoned thought will flame on about this, but I'm equally sure they will fail to bring a single rational critique that in any way seriously dents the fact that VK at this point has an better resume than his brother and is a top 6 HW ATG. Anyway, let the braindrain flamers and the reasonable, real boxing fans comment.

Great work, thanks for posting the truth on the matter.
how is it a myth?
he's the #2 HW for his era, his resume is ok
but it's not great, his brother has done much better than him
Vit's beaten some legit contenders and some WBC contenders
not like he's cherrypicked or ducked anybody
he's fought whoever was willing to get in the ring with him
but that list of names hasn't been spectacular
Yeah you're right.. It's not like he would ever think to duck someone like say, Rahman or Byrd.
I think it's pretty safe to say Briggs, Charr, Chisora, Sosnowski, Williams, Johnson etc were easily the best of the era.
Vitali is/was a good heavyweight but he has NO great win, his claim to fame even as OP mentioned is giving Lewis a good fight. A long list of wins over bums and losing against the two best fighters you faced does not make you an atg.
lol preparing for the 'but ... but ... but ... he was up on points at the time' brigade to chime in. Fact is when he stepped up he lost.

yeah, not as strong as some guy's, who's best victories are lightweight Hatton and 50 year old shot Mosley, oh I forgot to mention life and death fight with Cotto who was demolished by Pac a couple of years before.
:usa2:
Great points man. Vitali obviously has a better resume than Floyd Mayweather.
I like VK, I don't blame him for his resume, it's not his fault that the fighter's we all rate as ATG and real contenders were not around in his prime. At the end of the day, he was a decent boxer, with a very defensive pot shot style, I agree that WK is the much better boxer though, and had he been blessed with VK's chin he would definitely been one of the top 10's of any ERA, and certainly a guy not to be f****d with :)
Boxrec rankings?? log off and never return man..Vitali's resume is weak and no1 can dispute that with a straight face

Does Vitali's best win make a top 25 heavyweight of all time list? According to your beloved Boxrec Vitali himself only makes number 38.
ATG my arse. The best fighter and only HOF fighter he fought busted him up and stopped him in 6 rounds.
I am a Klitschko fan and proud of it.. But at some point Vitali can't keep riding a loss to Lennox Lewis as his claim to being better than everyone else. His resume is weak in comparison to his brother's. Fighting Danny Williams in your prime is not the stuff of legends are made of.

Sanders the best of the post Lewis era? When young and prime he was a 3rd tier HW, he didn't get any better with age.
