"Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend. His is the ring and mine in treatment. I will not be at the fight this Saturday to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility. I explained this to Canelo and he understood that my health and long term recovery from my disease must come first. Thank you for your understanding. I ask for your support and privacy during this difficult time for me and my family."

Shows commitment to his want for recovery
Or he just doesn't want to be there if Canelo loses? Probably has nothing to do with the fight but the timing is curious to say the least.
Bigtime coke-head, I do not feel sorry for anyone who messes with this crap, at the end of the day, these guys had the world at their feet, they're not forced into taking the drug. If he sort's his life out good for him, but not appreciating how good life is, when there are people out there who been hooked on this due to real serious problems in life... sorry sir but you do not get no sympathy from me.
Best of Luck to Oscar! I wish him nothing but the best, he is a good promoter and is good for the sport of boxing to have around to help promote fighters so hopefully the returns soon
him checking himself in rehab is a great sign means he knows he needs to change, if anyone seen the movie flight it shows what can happen when your in denial
Yeah, imo, this goes beyond his chemical addictions. Something happened that obviously affected him deeply. Perhaps an affair, or he ****ed up doing something or let someone down, or has just been doing too much yayo lately and the paranoia and remorse took over.
Disappointing that he decided to face his demons this week instead of manning up and taking care of his business, but that is easy for me to say I suppose. I party and drink and chase women, but I also take care of business and prioritize my shidt.
Going to miss him this week...
I would check my self in after the fight. One more crazy night of partying wouldnt hurt
you really don't understand addiction, one more night could be your last night...
Fight week in Vegas is tough for regular people much less a recovering addict. Between the parties and pre fight events, the blow, and the endless number of imported hookers it must be hard for someone in recovery to breathe.
You just described my perfect weekend.
But in all seriousness, I respect Oscar for checking himself in. Shows that he wants to change, and isn't brushing this under the rug until some Charlie Sheen type stuff happens.
True. I could see him being way too worked up and stressing out, relapsing here and there.

I hate to see people ruin their lives with any type of addiction that shortens their lives. I wish Oscar the best. He's a great promoter and ambassador for the sport.
Good luck Oscar.
I don't like DLH, but addiction is a serious disease, and it must be really bad for him to check himself in at this time.
Wish him nothing but the best.
