I want to see what fighters defeated the most opponents that were currently ranked p4p at the time of their respective matches.
Floyd: 5
Chico (#5)
Hatton (#8)
Marquez (#2)
Mosely (#3)
Guerrero (#10)
Facing Canelo (#9) sept 14.
Someone do pacquiao I'm pretty sure he has a couple. Remember to list the ranking at the time of the match.
Bhop should have a couple, so should ODLH, etc.
Oscar De La Hoya:
1. Pernell Whitaker (#3 or 4)
2. Felix Trinidad (#4)
3. Mosley (#10?)
Chavez, Hernandez, and Quartey weren't on the list. Pretty slim, especially if you don't want to count Trinidad and Shane.
hopkins has 6 if you count the calzaghe robbery, and none of them are bums like guerrero.
How does Hopkins have 6?
If you want to include Cazlaghe he still only has 4 and 2 of which were fights like Oscar at 160 and Winky Wright at 170. Do you consider those good wins?
and cotto was ranked #8 by ring at the time....i don't think morales was ranked top ten when pac first beat him?
Completely forgot Cotto.
Morales was but why I'm not so sure why.
Looks like pacquiao has the most with six. Pretty impressive. Floyd could tie that next week. I guess it's no coincidence that pacquiao Floyd and Hopkins are arguably the top 3 of this generation.
yes sir, totally agree,,,,
but to be fair its very hard to fight multiple p4p guys unless you have been around forever like floyd, manny and hopkins has,,
some really good fighters dont even have 1, like tszyu unless you counted judah,,
prince naseem i dont think has any on his resume
trinidad didnt have any either, unless you count the gift vs oscar
even the great chavez was kinda short in this department,, not sure if taylor and mayweather were considered p4p at the time
honestly its basically floyd, manny and hopkins that have multiple p4p guys on resume...
then probably ward and froch...
not much to say

The p4p rankings will always be controversial because of all the subjectivity, factors and assumptions. But to my point, the panel consists of who we consider experts and professionals.
Agreed, but there is consensus amongst most of the other decent lists you see that the likes of Broner and Canelo are not yet PFP fighters. For example:
Transnational Boxing Rankings - no Broner or Canelo
ESPN - no Broner or Canelo
Boxingscene - no Broner or Canelo
I think you'd find many Broner and Alvarez fans who do not yet believe they are top 10 based on their records.
As to the panel, I remember reading that there is some guy in control of the PFP list who GBP pretend is independent.
Pacquaio has;
Barrera
Morales
Marquez
Hatton
Bradley
Hopkins has;
Trinidad
De La Hoya
Winky Wright

My thread has gone to sh.t :-(. Is no one going to list me some other guys?

Thank bro.
Was hatton ranked after his defeat of paulie?? I believe I do recall Bradley though.
I would have expected bhop to have more. It's looking like this is not as common of a feat as I thought.
Best proof of skill is winning. Otherwise Gary Russell Jr would be top 5
I can agree to that,,, but margs had lost to santos who was an average fighter, and lost to williams,
yes he was beating up fringe guys like cintron and had a good win vs cotto, but i dont think he deserved p4p ranking, especially when he didnt have the skills to beat santos who was a very average fighter at 154, and got beat by paul williams,,,
And i also thought clottey gave margs hell in their fight....
margs just was never p4p in my book

No shane isnt,, but at the time he was a guy that barely got past mayorga, had gotten beat by cotto, margs had lost to paul williams and santos...
Both were still good fighters but neither should have been p4p off one big win.
Margs was basically a walking punching bag, and mosley had no legs since about 2005.......His best wins since that is a totally shot vargas, shot mayorga, and the punching bag margs,,,
Cotto was a great win for margs but not enough to catapult him into a p4p discussion
I base p4p on skill level, and margs never had the skills to be a p4p guy, he was very one dimensional, and shane was p4p in his prime but not since the winky fights IMO
they were top 20, but i couldnt rank them higher than say
floyd
manny
ward
jmm
hopkins
donaire
williams
serg
wlad
gamboa
just off the top of my head
Best proof of skill is winning. Otherwise Gary Russell Jr would be top 5
The difference is Barkley, Cloud and Ray Mercer weren't considered Top 10 P4P by anyone unlike Margarito.
Margarito was considered to be the best WW of his era and one of the most feared men on the planet. None of those others fighters were.
How can he be considered the best when williams beat him and his best wins were vs cintron,,, cotto was a great win but not high enough to catapult a guy to p4p rankings
was mayorga p4p after he beat forrest twice, and forrest was the true #1 welter,,,
list your p4p for 2009 with margs, and shane and 8 other guys,, im interested to see your rankings
C'mon son. Save the conspiracy theories.
chuck giampa for the most part does the rankings...there's no conspiracy lol
he's ratings chairman for ring magazine..and it's no coincidence that once he got hired the ring top ten p4p ratings have gone to complete ****...
I still like Ring's divisional rankings, but their PFP list is definitely now a marketing tool.
The p4p rankings will always be controversial because of all the subjectivity, factors and assumptions. But to my point, the panel consists of who we consider experts and professionals.
did you put duran in p4p top 10 when he beat barkley
or hopkins when he beat cloud
or when holmes was beating top heavys in the 90s
great fighters like shane can pull out a big win, but arent dominant or consistent enough to be p4p
The difference is Barkley, Cloud and Ray Mercer weren't considered Top 10 P4P by anyone unlike Margarito.
