The establishment tried to hold him back because hes a good looking working class boy from Nottingham, but more to the point the establishment feared him as he was willing to fight anyone anywhere.
Theres a reason that bbc lied about him getting schooled by Jermaine taylor. A fight he took a pay cut and got paid less, went to America and brooked him.
Look at the Kessler froch fight 2, ward and co hated Froch because they knew it would mean Ward may have to come to the Lions dens and beat the Froch in England.
They give him his big moment on Skysports when they thought he was going to get Mullered by Bute.
And its backfired. He made the likes of Floyd Mayweather and other cherry pickers get exposed, as froch is now getting the world wide exposure, and look at the fights you got this year.
Froch is the reason that Fury hayes happening, cleverly Kovalev happened, canelo Floyd happened, povetikin Wlad happening...
Theres no where to hide because of froch willingness to fight anyone anywhere, the Fans took note and now they expect everyone to be like Carl.
Like him or not he has literally changed boxing forever...
Knowing the threadstarter I'm pretty sure when he says "change the face of boxing" he's referring to pigmentation.
LOOL
Indeed. But it a shame he is not as popular as Hatton or Calzaghe with the fans.
That's true but you can blame a large chunk of the casual crowd for not knowing him, he had some of his biggest fights in the US and then spent a chunk of time on Showtime. I remember he was on ITV for a bit and was damn popular...Man I miss ITV boxing, he beats the **** out of the Channel 5 broadcast.

Froch is just bad-ass. He is clearly 2nd best Super MW in the world and will be the best when S.O.G. moves up to 175 soon.:hitit:
I think you're one of the best posters on here New England, but whenever you're involved in a thread about a British fighter/s - especially the dumb US/UK rivalry ones, this whole other character comes out of you. I hate to see it, but I guess noone can be great in all areas. There's always a feel of bias/agenda there.. :(
I agree with some of what you say in here though. Who has the better resume Ward/Froch has some debate in it, as Froch has more depth, but Ward has Froch on it. Where's the shame in losing to arguably the best fighter in the world? They are two of my favourite fighters, but for different reasons. The thing is though, when it comes to Froch, it's not so much about his skill or his wins. It's more how he puts nearly every other fighter to shame with his long string of solid competition - old school warrior. This is on top of what OP describes above, in that he was shunned by the British boxing scene for some reason, and fought his way out of it.
As for the OP, he hasn't changed boxing. But when he's no longer around the sport, people can use his story to question why the boxing machine doesn't have warriors like Froch the way it should. I feel Froch is going to be MUCH more appreciated after it's all said and done for him
part of the "character" that you see is humor. reality based humor is kind of my thing. it's only funny if it's got some basis in reality. outside of that, i call it how i see it, which is exactly what i'm doing here.
ward > froch, doe.
there's no getting around that.
don't get me wrong, i love carl froch. i was ringside for froch - taylor. i wouldn't feel it was at all inappropriate if froch is eventually in the hall of fame. they let arturo gatti in, ffs. he gets extra credit for taking tough challenges in an era where fighters are protected. we can't let that cloud our evaluation of how good he is, or what he's accomplished.
How anyone can deny Froch has a better resume is ridiculous, name me Wards five best wins and then name be Frochs best wins.
You can say Ward beat Kessler before Froch but seriously, what does it matter, Calzaghe had already beaten him and in betetr fashion. Can you honestly watch the Kessler/Ward fight and not be bored out of your mind by all the butts, elbows and forearms? It was terrible refereeing.
Ward is the better fighter, no doubt, he beat Froch, that can't be argued, they were both primed but Froch has the better resume, there can be no doubt about that unless your a massive nut hugger, like New England, tut tut tut

here's a litmus test.
if you can look at a fighter near his peak and tell me that he looks worse than a fighter who has clearly aged i know you're either biased, or just flat out wrong.
it's clear as day that the kessler that froch fought in may was worse than the kessler that beat froch in the first fight, and the kessler that ward beat.

To talk about resume in regards to Ward and Froch reveals how misleading talking about resume can be. Simply put Ward is the better fighter, that cannot be reasonably denied.

i should have stopped reading there, but i didn't. that's not a good look.
to think that you bring up a schooling of abraham by froch leading into the ward fight, and completely discard the schooling ward put on kessler prior to the first froch fight (that kessler won,) says volumes.
Why?
Kessler wasn't himself from the beginning vs Ward. There were so many things wrong in not only his prep, but his cornerwork, the walkout etc. Add to that he was clinched 90+ times and headbuttet 5 times which completely cut up his face- Froch beat him with boxing ability.
I realized when I read it back it sounded a bit like double standards, but what I meant was that Abraham had shown his limits at that stage. He actually did better vs Ward than he did against Froch.
And what about the unbeaten Bute, unbeaten Pascal, unbeaten Dirrell? What has Ward to match it?
Well, Ward's best win is Kessler or Froch, right? I don't care about what anyone says, the version of Kessler that Froch beat was better than the one Ward beat. Also, add to that names like Taylor, Pascal, Abraham, Bute, Dirrell, Magee, Reid and they were all champions or champions to be.
Ward has Froch, Kessler, Bika and the Abraham Froch had just schooled completely. He also has the drained corpse of Chad Dawson.
Remember Ward had his chance to fight Bute, to fight Dirrell, to go away and fight a champion. But he didn't do it.
I'm not saying that Froch is number one, but his standing in boxing is higher than Ward, he's way more likely to get into the HOF as it stands now, he's more active, beaten more good fighters than Ward.

froch does not have as good of a resume as ward. surely you can't be serious with this. not only better, but "much better?"
what sport do you watch?
is losing is just as good as winning?
i have no idea how you can say that when ward has a much more dominant win over froch's best win (kessler,) and a win over froch himself. froch has more fights against top competition, but he's come up short twice. a loss is a win you couldn't get when you had the opportunity. the dirrell fight was also a clear dirrell win if oyu only look at who landed the more effective punches, but i have no beef with somebody flagging dirrell for not behaving like a professional and giving rfroch some rounds for being aggressive.
if froch's resume is so good what happens to ward's when you take into account that he completely dominated froch in his prime?
