Chavez did have Martinez against the ropes several times and didn't do much there besides eating uppercuts.
He also mauled and dropped him on the ropes almost winning the fight, he broke Lee down the same way. Ward and Martinez aren't comparable anyway since styles make fights and their styles are almost opposing.
The vast majority of Andre Ward fights are fought on the inside, I expect this bout to be the same and that offers Chavez an opportunity to put work in, particularly late on when Ward's stamina comes under scrutiny.
It's an interesting fight imo. Will Ward win? more than likely but that would be the case regardless of who fights him at 168 and he's not moving up yet (his words).
Martinez is a mover, Chavez couldn't get near him for the most part. Ward by instinct is an inside fighter, it's a better stylistic match-up for Jr.
Don't get me wrong, I think he'll lose but his size makes it interesting.

Ward can move too, and he can clinch and do all sorts of things to nullify his opponent' offense. And he's probably stronger than Chavez as well. It's a mismatch.
I think this matchup could end up being quite entertaining. But without the huge size advantage, does Chavez have enough skill to compete. He should look better than he did against Sergio but Ward is very physical and crafty. It's a fight I don't see Chavez winning at all but maybe he can still raise his stock with a good showing.
Still.... that's a lot of money... chavez Jr. got 3 for PV
Ward's cutting it awfully close there.
yeah I think Ward should take less and offer Rodriguez more to get the fight done, but then I'm a boxing fan who just wants to see the fight.
He did, but he offered E-Rod $800k, ER turned it down and is holding out for a $1m.

Wow... he wanted that much for a Rodriguez fight?
Well... doubt he'll be fighting Chavez because chavez will be getting the bigger portion and he got what against Sergio...3?

Come on man, Chavez couldn't do anything against Martinez on the inside for 11 rounds...

I'll feel it's regrettable if a boxer of Andre Ward's caliber doesn't get in on one of the best years in boxing we could've hoped for in 2013. I'd like him to be a part of this banner year and make his own contribution to it. I would think he would want to too.
It's a good fight imo, Chavez has the size to overpower Ward on the inside.

Chavez Jr. doesn't seem to care as long as he gets paid.
He wanted to fight Sergio even though everybody around him knew he was getting beat... even threatened to leave Arum if he didn't let him fight
The hate for Chavez clouds peoples judgement. You can hate on the fact that he hates training, hates dieting, hates taking care of his body. But he truly believed he could beat Martinez. You can usually tell how competitive a person is especially in a fight. Every time Chavez gets hit just just wants more and hits back. All his fights he fights back right away. So to say he doesn't care about winning or losing is pretty ludicrous
I think Andre's ego has gotten big enough that he'll likely end up pricing himself out of the Chavez fight thinking he's worth more than what he think he's worth.
If ward wants $2,350,000 from HBO just to fight Rodriguez, I can't imagine what he'll ask out of a Chavez fight.

lol I didn't know that, he has pride if nothing else. Jr would beat him in a rematch if Sergio's last outing is anything to go by.
I think it was before they fought Sergio and Arum was trying to renegotiate his deal with Chavez Jr. Junior was threatening to leave Top Rank if he didn't get the fight.
Yea Chavez did beg for that fight,as far as him winning a rematch,i dont agree..Chavez is just not that good at all
Yeah but Sergio's movement isn't the same now, he's pushing 40 with dodgy knees. In saying that, Chavez struggles to make weight.
