stopping their count even when a guy wobbles on his way up.
Why are you counting Mr Ref if you're not going to finish your count?
A fighter who goes down should have 8-10 seconds to recover even if he's falling again and trying his darndest to get up, and then be judged by the ref. Fighters can't even go down anymore without a ref stopping the damn fight.
Refs are given too much power to stop fights when a fighter goes down, and is trying to get up. I can't even remember when there was EVER a difference in seconds that saved a fighters life between the refs count and doctors runing into the ring.
I miss Mills Lane. He counted Berbick out when other refs would've stopped at 3 probably.
The kid Jacobs put down deserved the full count to recover. I am truly sick of this crap. Then these new school kids wonder why us old hard hats are always arguing about today and yesterday.
Refs are becoming way too trigger happy with stopping fights after a KD and sometimes after a fighter is hurt on his feet. I agree with what you said the fighter should be given a chance to get up before the ten count then evaluated by the ref to continue.
Also there was a thread on this the other day. When a fighter is hurt and goes in for a clinch then falls and it is ruled a slip or push is becoming an annoying trend for something these refs should be able to see.
Lastly there really should be another ref or two in a booth somewhere who can watch replays and determine intentional headbutts, knockdowns, and the like.
I hear ya! Almost every weekend I ask myself why did the ref stop the fight. Stopping fights when the fighter hasn't even been knocked down. If the ref feels the fighter is in trouble! Call a freaking Knockdown! for heavens sake and give the guy 10 seconds to recoup and go from there...
Also I believe fighters should be taught a little more to take a knee when they are in trouble.
While I agree with your point in general, Lorenzo was way out of it. That was a situation where the fighter should get medical care as soon as possible. If it was a championship fight though, I'd give it a full 10. Otherwise, your health is not worth the small chance of beating a guy like Jacobs.
That does suck you spend your whole life training not even to get a full 10 when you try to get up.

Training for a couple of months only to have a ref stop a count when a fighter is trying to get up does suck.
Man, Lorenzo was done...only thing that would have happened was Danny knocking him unconscious had he got up...Nobody said that the fight had to continue. Just count and judge. Fighters have superb recuperative powers. Their training is what helps them get through those big shots.
I agree that fighters deserve a full count most of the time, Barker got up on 9 and went on to win a MW title. But Lorenzo tonight, I'm not gonna complain too much. You see a guy go down like that, you want the doctor in as soon as possible.I'm not talking at you, but to you. What is the doctor going to do after the ref stops his count? Run into the ring and wait for the fighter himself to recover! Then ask questions to make sure he does not have a concussion or something else going wrong. The damage is done already if there is real damage or temporary damage. Mind as well count to 8 or 10 depending on when the ref has to make a decision. The rule in boxing isn't once you go down, you lose. Fighters are allowed time to recover.

There should be more Ref's like Terry O'Connor. He had the heart to carry Cleverly back to his corner and restarting the fight after stopping it. That is a caring ref. One who admitted his mistake

yeah, unless the dude is completely out like manny-jmm or manny-hatton guys do deserve a count,,,
look at what barker did after almost being counted out,,,Good, wait...great point!
Recuperative powers is a forgone conclusion in boxing. You gotta jump up the minute you go down from a hellacious shot these days.
This is boxing, not ping pong.

There has been a alot of bad ref'ing lately,,,
I dont think this was a super bad stoppage,, the kid got rocked and went down face first, but yes he should have probably gotten a better countThat's all Adam. Just count. I say this because what if a guy pulls a Bruce Seldon and then jumps up thinking that the ref is still counting. Now that's rare, but a ref should count anyway, that way there is no wiggle room for anyone to question the refs decision.
I agree with the refs having too much power in fights but Lorenzo's eyes were in the back of his head and he went face first into the canvasI saw that, but Rus, he still deserved a count. He was trying to clear his head. He deserved a count at least.
