I was like many who thought Deontay Wilder was a bum who beat up worse bums until i learned this important fact- "Deontay wilder only started boxing in 2005".
Now i know this, i realise that he has a very good reason for fighting bums. He is gaining valuable experience and needs to keep fighting bums for quite sometime because he will not be ready for the klitshckos any time soon. Wilder started boxing in 2005 and won a bronze in the 2008 beijing Olympics, so his amature record is not enough for him to jump into Pro Boxing and fight the best immediately.
By now, Deontay Wilder has 29 fights and is ready to fight and beat someone like Seth 'NFL' Mitchell. He would also beat Arrerrolla to be honest. Deontay has to stay dedicated and he can become one one the best fighters in the heavy weight division in a few years.
. Didn't know about his kid either. I can see why they are taking it slow but i will point to hasim rahman who only had 10 amateur fights & won 2 world titles... He was fighting trevor birbeck by his 16th fight... I'd like to see him step it up now...
True but Rahman had been fighting guys on the street his whole life, he used to work for gangs as a body guard before he started boxing.
I didn't see where he went down.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and put in my prediction that Wilder will not make it. As the man said above, so many bad habits ti iron out. Weak chin to boot! Not good.
He went down against Harold Sconiers but got up to win. It's not the end of the world but it shows he's not infallible.
I wouldn't put GGG close to ten pfp yet. And yeah he does have a better resume as of now but not by too much.

i'd like to hear your top 15 p4p guys if Golovkin isn't even on there.

Proksa was a very good fighter when Golovkin. He took some big shots from Golovkin and his courage kept making him get up and continue to fight.
When Mora fought Proksa I guarantee he wasn't the same Proksa anymore. Even though it was only 2 fights ago I think Golovkin ruined him.
Golovkin has the better resume over Wilder.
there is a reason why he is considered close to the top 10 p4p while Wilder is not.

Macklin who lost a split decision in Germany v Sturm which many felt he won.
Leave the bias J, Wilder hasn't fought the HW equivalent of #7 Macklin, that would be an Helenius or Chagaev.
Yeah at 22. Wilder is 28 this Autumn (Fall) and hasn't fought even opponents on the level of Miguel Vasquez or Lovemore N'Dou.
Golovkin isn't fighting nobodies either, Proksa and Macklin were both top 10 MWs when he fought them.
He has been chin-checked, he went down.

Canelo fought like 40 nobodies. Let Wilder have his fun, he will get up there soon. GGG still is fighting nobodies and somehow is worshipped even though Wilder disposes of his much more impressively

There are some issues first that Wilder must pass before we'll know how good he can be. He needs to be chin checked, he does not appear to have an exceptionally strong jawline or neck and is very light for his height, no legs. Doesn't always mean **** but if he has a weak chin he will need to become something of a defensive master like Wlad or Lewis to survive at the top.

The dude has less than 60 total fights (unless I'm mistaken), amateur and pro combined. He beat a former olympian and title holder in his last two fights, I think they are stepping him up gradually but at an appropriate pace for his limited experience.
He has fought bums and at 27 has developed some bad habits which will be hard to iron out without a really good trainer and some frankly better competition to punish those mistakes so he knows he can't continue with them.
I don't think he will ever be a good fighter, his biggest and frankly only asset IMO is his huge right hand. It is devastating but aside from that he is lacking in every other area.
Man, if GGG is fighting nobodies, Wilder must be fighting duck embryo or something.
Can't say that because some of them are too old or inactive to be considered that... so crypt keepers
So Ishida actually counts as an opponent? Proksa was his best win lost to Mora lmao
and Sergios leftovers of Macklin who he got no credit for beating are somehow good opponents
Chisora, kingpin & guinn would be my choices... Malik scott?
A Chisora fight would be a real test and I think someone here said Toney, that would be awesome. I'd love to see Toney KOd called.
The problem with Wilder facing bums is, he is blowing them away in the first 2/3rnds he gains nothing from it. He gets exposure granted, but his management need to step up the opp's so he can get rounds and actually try and use his skills.
Chisora, Kevin Johnson, Jovo Pudar, Man even old arse James Toney & McCall, fighters that shouldn't be going down within the first min of hitting them.
Personally would love to see him face Chisora though.

he only had 35 amateur fights from my understanding so i have softèned my opinion of him. 35 amateur & 29 pro fights isn't much experience. Didn't know about his kid either. He will have to learn to punch straight, I can't see him being a major factor windmilling like that.
It is a admirable his efforts for his daughter and wish him the best. Someone with such apparent potential as Wilder should be properly managed imo! One would think with the quality of current American heavies they would want to invest in this man.
I only read the bold btw... what are these issues...
Do you think he needs too eats several burittos and cheeseburgers like your hero and god Samuel Peter before he can be taken serious?????
I think you're right ...Deontay needs too eat more and get mantits and a double chin so he can absorb Wlads power
People are saying that the Puerto Rican kid that lost to Giovani Segura tonight was thrown in there too soon. So people know that there is logic behind fighting easier bouts.....they just don't want to admit it when it comes to Deontay.
I for one have no problem with Wilder facing a lower level of opposition while he learns his craft. Why put him in with a top tier opponent before he's ready? Just so that he can get beat?
HE HAS FACED 29 BUMS, come on, he should be stepping up and fighting somebody in the top 20 at the very least. if he hasn't learnt valuable insights into boxing in 8 years, a number of amateur fights and 29 pro bouts then he won't ever be ready to take a step up.
I'm not saying fight the Klits or Pov or Pulev but at least someone with a heartbeat.
