Kiko Martinez is the perfect example of why "boxing is the sweet science" is pure BS.

Boxing is no more scientifical than any other martial art. Hmm... All that matters is, are you willing to take more punishment than your opponent to get the win? Thats it. Nothing more, nothing less.. Look at your avatar. Look closely. Think about what that fighter represents. Think about his fight against Gatti. I know you can figure this out; I believe in you.

you act as if Kiko and his team went in there with no strategy put zero thought into it and just showed up to fight, not true they came up with a plan they thought would most likely give them their best shot at winning, executed it and were successful, thats science if you didn't know, in Mayorga-Forrest, the Matador used Psychology (a science) to get Forrest to abandon his game plan, because the Matador was making him look like a puss Not sure who you are talking to.... Lets be real,,, romero looked like a slick pure boxer, but he had too many flaws and kiko came to fight and exposed him,,,, much like mares did to chemito... Romero looked to have great p4p caliber skills, but then was exposed,, a guy like hopkins, floyd, jmm, serg, pernell, true technicians would beat the hell out of kiko,, I hope they make a rigo-kiko fight, that way you will see what true boxing skills would do to a kiko-type fighter,, Romero doesnt have any ring generalship, defense off the ropes, didnt keep his chin tucked, didnt tie up on the inside,,, he basically looked the part of a p4p caliber guy and then got exposed like dulorme did vs abregu,,, He just didnt have the skill set to keep kiko off him,,,,, and he got stopped,,,, Does anyone think kiko would do that vs Rigo or a prime MAB EM,,, guys with true p4p skills,,,,

The Sweet Science is not what the TS thinks that it sounds like. Agreed but first off, this fight just makes Frampton's stoppage that bit more impressive. I'd love to see Quigg and Frampton go at it some time next year, either could be THE man at SBW once Rigo moves up or retires. Back to the topic of the sweet science, the SS isn't all about fighting on the back foot with a solid jab, it's about a number of different tactics, techniques, styles and punches. For example I always laugh when people claim Floyd is a better boxer than Manny, Floyd is a better defensive boxer yes but Manny is a better offensive boxer yet most boxing "fans" equate running around the ring and fighting off the back foot as being a superior boxer or having a better grasp of the sweet science. It's sadly not the case. Duran will always be ranked higher as a boxer than someone like Rigo, Floyd, Wright and Hopkins, all guys with good defensive skills and back foot styles but Duran was far more accomplished as a come forward striker, who imo was more versatile too. The sweet science is a combination of aspects.

Explain Mayorga-Forrest then. That was more of a perfect haymaker landing; in the rematch Forrest seemed hesistant because of being KO'd

What Kiko did worked on a C or B level fighter. It wouldn't work on an A level. Most A levels are too good for pressure fighters... explain Mayorga-Forrest.

Boxing is about imposing your will and style against your opponent. Thats all that matters when it comes to the subject of how fighters fight. There is no proof that pure boxers have more wins that brawlers. None at all. All that matters is, are you willing to take more punishment than your opponent to get the win? Thats it. Nothing more, nothing less. Kiko Martinez would make a ****ty scientific boxer. Why? Because hes small for where he fights at. He knows he is shorter, with a smaller reach, and that his best chance is to swarm his opponent with wave after wave of flurries. There are many styles to boxing, none better than the other. Stop complaining about the sweet science, when you yourself know there is more to the sweet science than being "slick."
