I want to know how you rank Mayweather's level of opposition since his return from "retirement" this past 4 years. Just want to see everyones input, I'm curious.
I want to know which Mayweather opponents you considered the greatest threats. Though I don't consider any of his past opponents big threats like Canelo, I will still list them.
List in order from Best to worst opposition. I'll start.
1. Canelo
2. Mosley
3. Cotto
4. JMM
5. Ortiz
6. Guerrero
Ortiz sucked. I to this day don't understand how so many people bought into him being a threat. Decent fight to take, but he was no more legit than Guerrero.
He was 'actually' coming off of an impressive win, where he showed heart, skill and determination. Things they said he was lacking because of immaturity.
It was the fight that changed peoples perception; at least for one fight. He bulked up, moved to 147 looking big, strong and fast. Again he was REALLY coming off of a big win; unlike Mosley who was coming off of a near 2 year layoff and multiple training camps...
At the time, EVERYONE said that Ortiz was finally absolved of his quit job against Maidana, looked the part of a killer and was a lefty, a type of fighter Floyd has been accused of ducking.
Sure revisionists history mucks up what was really being said. It's not Floyd's fault Ortiz left his brain at home the night of the fight.
Oh well, it's easy to point at Ortiz now in 2013 and crack jokes. For that period, he was a legit threat. Just like Canelo is now. If Canelo proves he is the real deal (and he kinda already did by beating Trout) and is successful against Floyd, whether he wins or loses, I'll put him at #2, or even #1.
Canelo lovers are blind and overhype their young one.
Here is the true ranking:
1. Cotto - Not at his peak, still gave FMJr. his toughest fight EVER.
2. Mosley - Well pass his prime. Landed hard on the 2nd round, after that, total domination by FMJr.
3. Ortiz - Young, dumb, could have been an interesting fight.
4. Guerrero - Taken to school. Completely embarrased by FMJr.
5. Marquez - KO'd several times, was bloaded, and not his self.
6. Canelo - Young? Unproven, hyped beyond hype.
My prediction is that Canelo will be schooled like Guerrero, but FMJr. will land more and it will be clear. Canelo will be afraid of letting his hands go after FMJr. counters him a few times. He will be gassed by the 5-6 round and will be stopped <11 rounds. TKO on cut/eyes swelling.
No, he was coming off of a 16 month layoff, and two training camps due to a failed Berto fight
It was a terrible fight.
1. Cotto
2. Ortiz
3. Canelo
4. Guerrero
5. Mosley
6. JMM
I really thought the Ortiz fight was an underrated risk he took.

1. Canelo
2. Mosley (was coming off huge win over Margarito)
3. Cotto (fought him at 154)
4. Guerrero
5. Ortiz
6. JMM (ranked low because the size difference was too much)

Warnelo will be his toughest test !

Ortiz quit against Maidana when he felt his power. On top of that, quitting against Mayweather confirmed it. Leaving himself open to get punched like that, not getting up. He then laughs it off with all his bro's afterwards. The guy has no heart.
I actually predicted Ortiz would beat Berto because he was overrated garbage. No surprise there.
1. shane - he looked past it on fight night but he was ranked #1 and was coming off a big upset win against margarito...
2. cotto
3. ortiz
4. canelo
5. guerrero
6. jmm

Cotto was one of the best he fought his whole career so he's 1.
Ortiz is an idiot and Floyd robbed us of a fight that was starting to heat up hes 2
Guerrero never stopped trying but had a horrible game plan he's 3
The two midgets should have never been in the ring with him but Ricky did better so I'll give him 4
Marquez who's one of my ATG's was made to look like a fool he's 5
Canelo hasn't fought him yet so how can we judge.
Oops! had to edit I forgot Mosley but Honestly Hatton did better minus the KO. Mosley looked almost as bad as Marquez, so I guess he's between them somewhere.
You're definitely not serious with this list. Can't take it serious when you considered Guerrero tougher than canelo, whack ***** right there

2. cotto
3. ortiz
4. canelo

Ridiculous list :lol1:
How the hell do you have Canelo at #4?! Da fuq, you even ranked Ortiz higher!

he was actually #2 and shouldn't have been ranked at all since he hadn't fought in 16 months. also he sucked.
Not how it works.
He had a fight signed within a year. You only get removed from the rankings when you don't have a fight signed for a year.
C0tt0 is pr0b 1 0f the best he's b0xed his entire career!
Shane was sh0t!
I expect the mexican t0 give him a t0ugh fight, tr0ut is a very awkward b0xer t0 beat but i'm n0t sure he has it t0 bring it c0nsistent
Before the fight was made, I would've put Canelo at the top of this list. Since the announcement of the fight, I have now rehashed my thoughts and came up with a dozen reasons as to why he's at the bottom of the totem poll of such list..
1. shane - he looked past it on fight night but he was ranked #1 and was coming off a big upset win against margarito...
2. cotto
3. ortiz
4. canelo
5. guerrero
6. jmm

2. cotto
3. ortiz
4. canelo
5. guerrero
6. jmm
1. canelo--- young in his prime fighter that is bigger and more powerful
2. shane-- was the welter champ and had more power, just didnt have the legs to last
3. ortiz-- had the youth and the power to pull an upset, especially since may was coming off a long layoff
4. cotto-- past his prime, but fighting at 154,,,, would always give floyd trouble, but floyd is simply better
5. Ghost-- ghost had a chance to turn it into a dogfight, floyd just wouldnt allow it,,, after the cotto fight, it looked like floyd had no legs left, and guerrero could trap him on the ropes and pull a JLC,, but floyd looked super sharp and ghost stood no chance
6. JMM-- never once did i think that jmm would have a chance a beating may,,,, styles make matchups,,, and there is no way a slower, older, smaller, weaker, shaky defense, lightweight counterpuncher was going to outbox and counter the bigger, faster, younger, more powerful floyd,,,, did anyone really think that floyd would lose a fight when he dominated every category and aspect of the fight,,,, JMM excels vs aggressive come forward fighters like manny, diaz, katsisdis and he struggles with boxers like casamoyer, john and barrera,,,,,,
I honestly gave jmm no chance at all in this fight,,, and i cant understand how anyone would,,, its not that jmm is a bum, its just the fact that some older, slower, weaker, smaller guy isnt going to outbox mayweather....
