Just read this over at fightnews. What the hell is Ward gonna do now? He's slowly becoming irrelevant and he's in a division that doesn't have much left to offer.
Kovalev fights at Light Heavy? What the hell happened to the anti-drain crusade?
I meant for Ward to go up, not for Kov to come down. If Ghost can back from a shoulder injury and move up two divisions, I don't see why Ward can't. I'm sure some will say that it's an unnecessary risk, but I think it's about time that Ward does something unexpected.
There's an article over on F.Hype where Ward says that Rodriguez priced himself out. Can someone ask Team Kovalev if they're interested??? He didn't take punishment against Clev, so maybe he'll take it.
Carl Froch's feet are slow. Very slow infact.
I'm talking the top guys in the sport.
Fast feet would be guys like Mayweather, Pacquaio, Martinez, Rigondeaux, etc.
Thanks for bringing it up, some people around here think he's some sort of Manny Pacquiao for some reason... :fing02:
Vital, vital shots,
Now jump to 4:17
I don't care who you are, shots like that will do serious damage.
Dawson gassed after the first 2 rounds, when you're gassed you tend to get hit with clean shots as your energy and reflexes diminish. He was badly drained, what else is new?
i thought you'd get a kick out of this thing :  :lol1:
what is carl froch if andre ward has "decent" footspeed?
opinions are opinions, but i don't think that's a fair assessment, unless you're speaking exclusively of very good / great fighters. even then i wouldn't call it just "decent." he's fast.
ward has a terrific first step. one of the best in boxing, probably only behind mayweather, and on the tier with wladimir and rigondeaux. that's one of the first things i noticed when he turned pro. he doesn't cover a lot of ring because he's not taking a bunch of extra steps. i don't think he's andre dirrell fleet, and i do think his upper body moves better than his feet, but he's quite athletic. he made froch miss with his feet constantly in their fight. one or two steps, and he'd be back at range. or he'd step once or twice behind his jab to get all the way inside.
here's the kessler fight. ward's intent even then looked to be to stay flat footed, but he shows a lot of footspeed in flashes.

Andre Ward has some of the best footwork in the sport like I said. His positioning and footwork is exceptional and his feet are far from slow but from what I see I don't see a fighter with exceptional footspeed at all.
You describe him as "quite athletic". I agree with that entirely. He is "quite athletic".

Loved when Ward turned southpaw, Kessler looked like he had witness a new species :lol1:
:lol1: That's my opinion. I don't see what everyone else see's.
His footwork is very good. His positioning, very good. Foot speed? Don't see it. Decent at best.
His athelticism isn't overly impressive either. He's obviously atheltic but when I watch ward I don't see overwhelming athleticism.
Not saying he's poor in these area's or anything. Just not that good. Or as good as most seem to think.
He makes up for it in other area's. His timing is very good, his inside game is very good and he's a quite good counter puncher.

That's why I disagree with most, Rios has looked worse at the weigh in, I've seen Morales look worse than that. But again, I can't stretch this enough...getting hit directly under the chin, the most vital part of the chin, by a punch you don't see coming will likely do serious damage. Look at the clips I posted......
You rarely ever see elite fighters get hit with that kind of punch because they keep their chins tucked in, but Dawson has had a history of squaring up and leaving his chin up there and Ward capitalized on it. That's all I'm saying :D
Rios was drained against Murray which is why he performed so badly. He's lucky Murray is awful.
You rarely see Dawson go down from single shots at all when he's not drained either.

These aren't your typical head shots. Jump to 4:17 in the second video I posted.
Iron point taken, we'll agree to disagree, all good man :fing02:

Thank you for providing that.
Not all of those shots were "Picture perfect" especially the third one which he fell over from for some reason
I seem to remember leading up to the fight that Virgil Hunter talked about Ward having become very well rounded and now just needing to punch harder. Like they were making a concerted effort to mix that into his game.
That shouldn't be discounted. It's possible that Ward hit harder in this fight because that's what he is trying to do now. Not just because Dawson was weight drained.
Regardless how healthy you personally feel Dawson was......Ward still beat him at a weight he hadn't been in like 7 years. He looked good, but he gets no credit from me for that win. It'd be like Floyd fighting Canelo at 147, or Pacquiao fighting Cotto at 140 in 2009.

We've been through this discussion before, you remember I told you I'm an disagreement with the extent of how unhealthy he was at the fight. I disagree there, I think Dawson would have fell over at '75, I really really do. I bring up his power because you say it's decent, where as in my honest opinion Ward is a good puncher.
Wrong on both accounts but you're entitled to believe both.
So what do you think?
You elluded to it when you said he looked ok at the weigh in. Despite the fact he didn't look ok at the weigh in.
People factoring something that doesn't exist also kills me.
Not all of the punches Ward landed were precise, hard punches and there's no way he'd have fell over to all of those were he healthy and he's already shown.
