The proposition of Calzaghe as an all-time great should be deemed an indictment for Fraud. This English-born, half-Italian - half-Welsh CHARLATAN led a completely manufactured career. His bogus hometown slap-stoppages were atrocious which can be seen, and exposed of, on YouTube.
It took this crook NINE years to unify, and in his ''reign'', he boxed FIVE top-10 contenders. His promoter, Frank Warren, a leaching gangster with odious ties to the WBO ensured Calzaghe could get away with the most repulsive of contenders, often fighting top-50 WBO mickey mouse contenders.
Calzaghe has a few decent wins. But his style was terrible and he was a compulsive cherry picker.
IF Calzaghe is great, then by the same analogy we can say Sven Ottke and Dariusz Michalczewski are legends.
Pathetic.
if you think about it,Trevor Berbick could have gone 46-0 if he'd fought bums all the time. If he'd waited till the WBO title came out that nobody else wanted, he could have defended it 20 times too.
The he'd the greatest HW of all time!
tbf Calzaghe at least stepped up a couple of times.

Son of a bitch...I couldn't agree more!:cool2:
Everyone with a grain of sense can identify Calzaghe is obviously far from an ATG.
But I also think he's become very overrated in H2H match ups also which is ironic considering when he was still fighting he was underrated in that regard.
NOTHING will change what Calzaghe wrote in his book prior to fighting Jones, he declared Jones as being shot and that a win would be meaningless.
NOTHING will change the fact that this is the same Jones who got knocked out in underva minute or two against popular Aussie punching bag Danny Green.
NOTHING will change the fact that Calzaghe Jones struggled to do 200, 000 ppv buys.
NOTHING.
And nothing will change Calzaghe UD12 Jones.
Not a big fan of his slapping style/amateurish fighting style but you can't take away from his accomplishments. Would he have been able to handle Ward, Hell No. Could he handle Froch, maybe. Abraham, I could see it. That said his style was weak and relished to much on hand speed with minimal, if no power.
Had he been as great as some perceive him to be, why couldn't he finish a diminished Jones Jr.
If RJ was so great, why didnt he win?
He had nowhere else to go? Look at his fight record post 08. Dela Hoya was a blown up jr middle, but Trinidad was heavily favoured to beat Hopkins.
Stupidity knows no bounds with Calzaghe apologists. Hopkins has a career and resume which Calzaghes doesn't even come close to.
Hopkins has a great resume. Having a loss to the legendary Calzaghe on your resume immediately boosts its credibility.
Well yeah because he had nowhere else to go at 43. In 2002, he was at middleweight hoping to fight blown up welterweights.

Oh so Hopkins decided to duck the fight but then take it at 43-years-old? That's a Calzaghe fans way of reason and logic right there.

Hopkins rejected a $3m dollar purse (a career highest) to face Calzaghe as early as 2002. Calzaghe chased and called him out for years. Hopkins then called Calzaghe out after the Winky fight and it got made instantly.

yes. there's a bit of calzaghe working the old heavy bag at 3:18. the bag had to be replaced after calzaghe's display of power.
HOW can anyone watch Calzaghe at 3.18 in that video and take that charlatan seriously?
What is he even trying to do. I find it insulting to boxing
Kessler has something Calzaghe could only ever dream of: he has a set of testicles. You see Kessler, he'll travel for dangerous big fights. Calzaghe was contracted to have his 3rd HBO fight in the states and Hopkins was the last man standing.

Oh, well Kessler went on to beat Froch, which is 10X better then anything he did pre-Calzaghe :lol1:
Meanwhile Slappy needed a robbery to keep his 0 against Hopkins and then retired back to wales. Kessler basically ruined slappy, he was never the same after him!

Otherwise it'll be a Eurostar train to Germany for Michael Veit or Cadburys Salami
Essentially, yes. You see, Hopkins was 43-years-old. And it's hard to fight someone like Calzaghe. He brings a high work rate, a fairly good chin, and slaps in bunches. He also had great stamina. So Hopkins did what he had to, en route to taking Slappy to school.
Hopkins got slapped and fuked like a b1tch in the middle of the ring. He essentially had to cheat to prevent himself from being stopped. He essentially quit. He is better at taking knees than Miguel Cotto.
R u serious?
daggum have you seen that vid where slappy is throwing ten slaps per second on the heavy bag being timed. That's hilarious.
